    Thank you, lifehackster for another excellent video. I live in England, and we are having even more problems with the signals connecting, as our houses are mainly brick-built. Therefore, I don't suppose the lights will be a choice for us here. But they look brilliant at your house.

    Do they cover the ring lights with the theft protection like the cameras? My biggest fear is someone to just walk off with my smart lights.

  • @johnalbertson79
    @johnalbertson79 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Clicked your video to get some info about what smart lighting is all about (i'm a newbie). Honestly, while I see how this could be beneficial for some people, I can't help but think its a bit silly and convoluted. I'm not sure why a basic home owner would ever need that much control over what is essentially typical yard lighting; something that has worked just fine via solar power for decades, and at a cheaper cost. Again I'm not saying its necessarily a waste of time and money for those who may need it, but to me I would rather put my money towards a higher quality / more durable light itself, rather than the fancy tech that I don't need to begin with.

    • @derekca
      @derekca 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, he showed that it in the app. I would think that that setting would know geographically, based on zip code, what time dawn/dusk is everyday. For battery powered device, definitely would consume more power, wired though, not an issue.

      @@LifeHackster How long does it take the camera to start recording once it detects motion? I currently have an Arlo setup and the delay from motion detection to recording is around 10 seconds, long enough for the subject to walk out of the camera's view. Great video as always. I really like the depth you go when reviewing the products. I myself have Ring products (Alarm, first Gen wired Floods, Pro doorbell, and first gen spotlight). Since I moved I only setup the Alarm and Doorbell. We are looking at accent lights outside. I would like to have it all in the same Ring ecosystem, but having to change batteries is not something I want to do every month or two. I like the Ring transformer info you provided. I just need to see how many lights it can support. Only being able to have one in the system is rather limiting. Again, great video.

      look up game cameras or wildlife cameras. Many of these are small, records to an SD card and runs on battery with optional solar panels. Hunters use them all the time in the woods. Most will record video, pictures, and time lapse. Some even have Bluetooth for easier download to your phone and some will use cell signals to send you notifications and download videos.

      I bought the low voltage lights at Lowes -> www.lowes.com/pd/Portfolio-2-Watt-Black-Low-Voltage-LED-Path-Light/1000180455
      As to battery powered cameras that don't rely in WiFi, you can check out what Clell Britt said...or if you want to get notified, if the camera senses motion, then check out Arlo Go or Reolink Go cameras (needs cellular data connection)
