If you are searching for a pure cafe racer project, this is a great example.
The wonderful Cafe Racer on this video, is the response of a Man who lost a Brother.
It was built in England by Alec Birkbeck, as a tribute to Kevin.
The project began with a Yamaha Virago TR1 as a donor motorcycle, and ended up with a beautiful, light, and clean Cafe Racer.
Enjoy.

That’s not a bike for Alec, rather it’s his brothers soul who’d be around with him even after his dismissal. What a work by the biker & even a greater work to turn it into a story and pay a tribute by putting it in a video!

NOT REALLY INTO CAFE RACERS BUT I LOVE THE TR1, BOUGHT ONE NEW IN 1984 AFTER PASSING MY TEST ,ONE OF THE BEST BIKES IVE RIDDEN. THE EXHAUST SOUND ON THIS MACHINE IS AWESOME ,LOVELY TRIBUTE TO HIS BROTHER.

Came here after your video of top 10 cafe racers! Couldn't agree or was digestible that why this gorgeous sitting in 5 place....well enjoyed, inspired, superloved and got bit wetty from inside that a brother made a devoted machine for his martyr brother who fought with such disease but still was the definition of spectacular!!
I ditto your lines and those lines were also came in my mind "" such simple, minimalist""...i mean WOW, what a cruel universal phenomena! Everything has its cost and payoff, Alec couldn't be able to recognise his craftsmanship if his would be alive and neither i would be here to admire such delicacy..

Just a slight correction, the Virago came after the TR1. The TR1 was often called "Platic Harley" but it was not. It was a Plastic Vincent, it can both turn and brake... I drove one for over 15 years, and I loved it, rebuildet it first as a chopper, later as a tourer, it´s original purpose. So nice to hear that sound again.

Stunning, stunning stunning motorcycle. Did I mention it's stunning? I've always wanted to do this to a TR1 but lack the skills and the workshop. So glad people are unleashing the potential of this bike, which has been crying out for some love. A 1000cc v-twin with chain drive, what's not to like?
