Thanks a lot for your insights to layout containers. Just a side note: no one is going to memorize -2.9% and by heart knowing what the difference between -3% and -2.9% is. In most cases you will not need decimals in percentages.
Hello, thank you very much for your videos. I have a question about the dashboard in Excel that shows at minute 1:25, could the same be done in Tableau? I say this because of the circular container of the central graphic.
Hi Andy, I am talking about the SuperStore KPI one. Where filters are active with Total Sales, Total Profit KPI Viz. I am trying something similar with 12 months running data but getting ranges (x to y)in my % change YoY metric The one i guess at 0:55

Thanks for the video! However when I bring in a KPI to the caption I am showing both +ve and -ve %'s for my dashboard. Is there a trick to show either +ve or -ve %. i.e +ve if +ve and -ve if -ve? Thanks again!
@@vizwiz Thanks for the reply! I downloaded the workbook and dissected it. For some reason when I add the "+" and "-" change fields to the caption (or anywhere for that matter) in addition to showing the correct % chg, it is also displaying the +0.0% instead of blank. Any thought on what I am doing wrong? BTW this is awesome!
I was able to make this work by changing the default number format property to custom +0.0%;-0.0%;" "; By adding the last " "; it worked. Yours doesn't have this so I'm not sure why I had to add it?? Keep the great videos coming!
your "SUPERSTORE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS" dashboard in this video has turned blank when i downloaded from Tableau Public today, i guess its because right now the year is 2021 and max date of data is 2020/12/31, but i dont know how to fix it?
This is really great, and i am your big fan! if i stuck in tableau i watch your videos..In this vedio you have mentioned the first complex dashboard which you told that you will make it in another video. I am waiting for that curiously! Your Obedient Subscriber/ Student/ Fan Zubair

I don't understand why it's better to create that floating container as a start VS. adding a tiled container as a start? :) I've watched this and Curtis's videos and tested both out myself, and I still don't get it 😮💨
Great question Max! Essentially, floating the first container keeps Tableau from creating a whole bunch of extra tiled containers, thus reducing the complexity of the containers (a lot) and making it much easier to customize. Here's a playlist for containers. Start with the first video "Mastering Containers in Tableau". If you still have questions, ask away! th-cam.com/play/PLX-uPHRG0cLbW1PuKQVzNkFrIUssS-iF7.html
@@vizwiz Thanks for your response! Maybe you stated this already in one of the videos and I just didn't catch this (or internalize it). I'll jump back into the videos then! 💪
@@vizwiz Actually, I do have one question regarding the dashboard: I've copied your method 1:1 from the workbook and done a similar KPI card (but with Superstore sales for 2023). However, I still have the issue of both values showing in the caption. Meaning, that in my caption it shows "0,0% -28,1%". Any idea why that is the case? I'm using Tableau Public.

Absolutely. Depends on the audience as well. For some, the precision is important.

Yes, you can. I've added it to my list of videos to create.
HI Andy
Really great . Thank you so much for doing very useful videos.
Ca you share me the "SUPERSTORE KEY PERFORMACE INDICATOR" Video ?
Thanks

This is the video. I’d you mean the workbook, the link is in the description.
Thank you, Andy!
Where can I get the tutorial to build just the top section of the dashboard 1:17
That's in this video.

It's new thing to learn... Thank you
How do you get the caption to only show either the + or - % chg?
I cover all of the steps in the video I believe.

The max date calc always gets the latest date in the data set. Now that it’s 2021 should matter.

Unless I missed something, at this point tableau should have built a feature that allows you to reorder containers on the left under layout
I agree. It would be so helpful.
Very nicely explained

@@macroixant Try formatting the numbers to +0.0%;-0.0%; (with a space after the last semi colon). That will format 0% as a blank.
