Hi, love this pattern. I used DK yarn, 4mm hook and it measured 6" hand circumference which according to charts fits a 6 yr old, but wool stretches and tensions differ. I believe this is your written pattern which may help others, as you say it can be adjusted by using larger hook and/or adding rows. 1. Magic ring, 5sc into MR 2. 2sc in each stitch (10) 3. (2sc, then 1 sc) repeat around (15) 4. (2sc, then 2 sc) repeat round (20) 5. (2sc, then 4 sc) repeat round (24) 6-17. sc 18. sc, chain 6, skip 6, sc to end (24) 19. Sc round including the 6 chains over the thumb space (24) 20-26. Sc. Finish off and leave a tail. Thumb - 1. pull yarn through a stitch and sc around picking up 12 stitches evenly round 2-6. sc round (12) 7. Sc 2 together 6 times. Weave through remaining 6 stitches to close
First, thanks for the suggestion of using a safety pin or paper clip! This totally saved me and reminded me that my mom used to do the same thing when she was saving a project. 😊 A couple things I did differently... I didn't think the cuff part looked long enough, so I added 8 rows but instead of the same stitch, I did a single crochet in the back loop only to create a ribbed cuff and then folded it over. Then it can be unfolded if needed to go up higher on the wrist and up under the jacket sleeve for fun dry snow play. 😋 I tried closing the thumb hole with the stitching you showed, but it wasn't working out for me, so I turned the mitten inside out and slip stitched it together. That worked out wonderfully! Thanks for the great tutorial! 🤗
Thanks a lot! I have just made another thing with your tutorial - adorable pair of mittens) The only variation was that I did not use a needle ending the thumb - just did one more round of SCs joint together (3 sets), chain one, and that was it) Thanks again! Your lessons are very easy to follow and just priceless for a beginner like me!
This is one of the easiest tutorials I have found on TH-cam for crocheting! I took my two year old son to the Veterans Day parade today and it turned out to be so cold and almost snowing he had fun until the last bit he still doesn’t understand to keep his hands under the blankets and he was crying saying owwww because his hands were frozen! I came straight home and started on these for him thank you so so much
I want to thank you thank you thank you very much for using a real stitch marker through out the hole pattern I just love your teaching skills. Thank you again
Thank you, your directions and explanations made it so easy to follow and the results were great. I am making these mittens for charity because I live in Southern California and we are still getting temperatures in the 90 degrees Fahrenheit. 😎
I really enjoyed making these, and your instructions were plain & simply. I had no problem following you along. Hope to see some other patterns, in the future.
After the first five rows, I found it best to measure inches rather than rows. I am making them for my two year old granddaughter and following the number of rows you did here made them far too big. On that note, I found this the easiest tutorial of all of the ones I checked out! No written pattern needed. All straight single crochet after the first five rows.
Hi, I am making a pair for my almost 2 year old! How do I adjust the size? I'm a beginner and don't quite understand how to make them smaller. Appreciate any advice!!
I followed this video but made adjustments for my 11 year old to fit her, and wrote down all of the adjustments I made as I made the first mitten so that I could make the second mitten exactly the same - What I did was have my daughter try it on as I worked on it to fit her exact measurements. I DO NOT think that the measurements stated by the video are realistic to fit older kids with only adjusting the hook size, I think this pattern is suitable for toddlers only, with that said - I was EASILY able to make the adjustments needed for this to work perfectly, so well done on the pattern / video! The mitten also fit me - an adult, just a little snug. I would make this pattern just a little bit wider for an adult female hand. I used a 5.5mm hook, and that red heart brand of yarn from Walmart. (I also copy / pasted Black Nights pattern, and updated it for what I did). This mitten is about 1/2 - 1 inch too long for my 11 year old, in the hopes that if we don't lose them in a week, she will be able to wear them for at least 2 years. The first mitten took me 2-3 hours to complete, the second took me less than 2 hours to complete since I then knew what the heck I was doing and did not have to watch the video again. These are my first ever mittens, but I am not a beginner at crochet. If you are new / beginner to crochet, keep watching TH-cam videos, I have become very decent at crocheting and have tried out so many new stitches and patterns just from TH-cam! Thank you to all you TH-cam educators! 1. Magic ring, 5sc into MR. 2. 2sc in each stitch (10). 3. (2sc, then 1 sc) for the row (15). 4. (2sc, then 2 sc) for the row (20). 5. (2sc, then 4 sc) for the row (24). Sc all the way around from rows 6-28. 29. Sc, chain 6, skip 6 stitches, Sc to end (24). 30. Sc around including the 6 chains over the thumb space (24). Sc around from rows 31-38. Finish off and leave a tail. Thumb - 1. pull yarn through a stitch and sc around picking up 12 stitches evenly. Sc around from rows 2-12. Sc 2 stitches together 6 times. Weave through remaining 6 stitches to close, sew in all ends to complete the mitten.
Thank you sooo sooo much! I have been boggled with aal the tutorials till now. Finally i will be able to make mittens . Can uou kindly also teach gloves with half fingers. Love and hugs. Tons of gratitude
This is a great basic mitten pattern. Just by making a few adjustments the mitten can be made for a larger child. I use Red Heart Super Save yar variegated colors (macaw) and a modern color pattern emerges! I have made a small adult mitten by starting with 6 sc in the magic circle, then added rows to fit my hand. Today, I noticed I could click on the dots on the lower right corner below the video and see a transcript, this might be helpful!
love the pattern, not really a big fan of the magic circle so I went with another similar pattern. using the magic circle just makes things more complicated for no reason. thx
Hello Wooly Wonders Crochet! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial! I crocheted my first pair of mittens thanks to your help. English is my second language and for some videos I like to use the captions. I noticed some of your captions were off so I wrote them out for you. Hopefully you get a chance to correct them I'm sure that a lot of people would benefit from this :) best wishes! :28 "crazy da mittens" change to "crocheted mittens" 1:08 "pull it free" change to "pull it through" 1:23 "as a stage" change to "as a stitch" 1:45 "y lay there pull three bass loops on your hook" change to "yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook" 2:08 "around 15" change to "for round one" 2:37 "values 12 round tape" change to "and now we're going to do round 2" 7:25 "11-11" change to "2,1,1,2,1,1" 18:56 "around 20 12 batters" change to "round 21 so now
You have really great video instructions and beautiful patterns. It would be very useful if you would provide a supply list. Yarn weight, yardage, hook, etc. in your videos. Thanks!
+Nancy Luchini Thank you! I always write what yarn and hook I am using in the description box below the video - click on 'show more'. I will try and include more information in the future. Thank you for watching and your great feedback x
Cheers from Canada! Thanks so much for uploading this video. Completed my first pair for my 4 year old niece and they look great! I'm about to make a pair for my 2 year old nephew :) Do you have a written pattern for it?? Thanks again!!
I have been searching for the easiest pattern cause I’m a super beginner. Thank you for sharing this! 😍 It’ s so easy to follow, and very detailed! This makes me confident in making mittens for my little niece for Christmas.
Instead of doing 10 rows, I did 5. Instead of 6 for the thumb hole, I did 5, which made the thumb 10 around. Instead of 6 rows for the length of the thumb, I did 4. Caron simply soft medium 4 yarn with a 5mm crochet hook.
You are quite clear and this should be easy enough. However, mine came out HUGE LOLbut i lose count easy (even with the marker) it would benefit me to reiterate the number of stitches one should have at the end before moving the stitch marker? just a thought I DO A LOT OF TEARING OUT. Thank you for taking the time to upload.
Could I please have the written patter for these. I have been trying to make mitts for my grandchildren and never understand it. I do with your fantastic tutorial which will help.
Thank you so much for such a detailed yet simple instructional tutorial! I'm on my second pair of mittens to go along with my niece and nephew's hat and scarf sets!
Great tutorial, as usual. I have followed many of your tutorials and have always ended up with an amazing piece. Thank you so much for your clear instruction and wonderful tutorial.
I made the 2-4 size for my 2.5 year old. Initially it was too small for her so I added two extra rows to the fingers before adding the thumb hole. Also added two extra rows to the thumb. The mittens are now a good fit but certainly wouldnt fit a 4 year old. Easy pattern to follow though. Considering adding a bit of ribbing to the bottom as they only just graze the wrist.
When you do a tutorial can use specify what weight yarn your using I had things turn out wrong because I didn't know the wright of the yarn. Love your tutorials !!!
I was having this same issue. I finally started to look in her description box and then Google comparison yarn for what it is she uses. It will give great choices that will work up very similar in size and feel. Takes very little time and makes all the difference in completing a beautiful project. So type in ( drops Lima comparable yarns) in the Google search bar and it should show up somewhere in the list if found items. There is a comparable yarn to almost every yarn she uses. Hope this is helpful.
Hey Woolywonders crochet, how many chains do i need to go though inside of coat, my Grand Daughter is 1yr old, i dont want rhem to lose them Thank You so much I made her a Fox Beanie and she needs the clothes
this is such an awesome tutorial. I'm a knitting girl transitioning into crochet and its been very helpful. I went out and bought the yarn needles and stitch markers - brilliant idea. My only question is how do I change the pattern in order to make the mitten for the other hand or will this pattern work for both hands?
can you do a video for a newborn because i'd really liked to make one for my baby brother. your vidwos are really great especially the star stitch cardigan
Hello I'm a beginner and have a question. I have made the first mitten and turned it right side out, this is for the right hand and looks real good. My question is do you make the left hand the same as the right one. How do I place the thumb hole? This is dumb question I'm sure but please answer.
Well I’m gonna give this a try ...it looks pretty easy ..thank you..I have 16 grandkids to make mitts for 😂..I wonder if I can do a ribbed st for the wrist? I’m gonna try it .
Hi! Can you post a video on how to crochet the chain that attaches the mittens? I want to add a chain to mittens that I already have for my little one.
I think you just chain however long u want your chain to be and then single crochet until you get to the bottom of your chain. Then slip stitch the bottom of your chain to your other mitt. Fasten off and leave a long enough tail to weave it in well
Gosh, I just LOVE LOVE her! Shes literally the one that taught me to crochet! buuuut faaaaaack i hate that i have to wear headphones all the time (I crochet at night when kids are sleeping) because after every other word or so when she takes a breath, she sucks in her saliva real loud in my earsss..... i know, i know, im sorry lol
the pattern is very nice i have made many of your idea but i not sure how chains to make for person that is 15 year old. i like your pattern thats why i was asking thank you \ darshi
I love this pattern but I feel the measurements aren't right for ages 4-7. my daughter is 5 and I had to go to round 20 before I even considered doing the round with the thumb hole and my daughter is average height for her age so it would definitely not fit a 7 year old. I was using a 4mm hook like advised too so I followed it all to a t. please let me know what wool you are using. I am using red heart soft baby steps aran which says to use a 6mm hook.
I had a similar problem. My daughter is 2.5 and even though I followed the measurements for 4-7 they are so small they barely cover her hands and the thumb is tiny. I'm going to unpick the thumb and try again and just add some length onto the end of the main mitten.
Hi, I made these mitts omitted 2 rows at the end of your mitt and used this tutorial: th-cam.com/video/i5F_OMt6eFc/w-d-xo.html only I chained up 7 chains, instead of 9chs. Cause I wanted the cuff to b a little shorter. I also used slip stitches instead of single crochet(except for the last stitch of the row) I did single crochet for that stitch to have a nice edging for the cuff. hope this helps. I know this is a year later but it's getting time to make mitts once again! 👍👍
I made mittens form this pattern for my granddaughter. They were easy, the mittens are great, & she loves them! Thank you so much. Please see pic on Ravelry under Fava74 projects.
I have made this and it was really easy to follow and looks great but, it fits me, it’ll never fit my baby. Can anyone tell me what I’ve done wrong please?
Hi +susan stebby , I always write what hook and yarn I am using in the description box below the video. I do not have a Facebook or blog as of yet. Thank you for watching x
Love the way thehumb is added…so easy, and so neat!
Best magic circle explanation so far!

Thank you! Lovely video. Easy to follow. Made my first pair of mittens for my four year old and he loves them.
This was a fabulous video & yes you are a wonderful teacher....My granddaughter will love these mittens. Thanks so much!
These are the best fit mittens I have made, thank you for your tutorials xx
I found 12 rows instead of 17 to be suffice!! Thank you for the tutorial!! I will be using this pattern further!!😊😊
I really enjoyed making these, and your instructions were plain & simply. I had no problem following you along. Hope to see some other patterns, in the future.

Still doesn't mention how many ply the yarn is. The area I live in doesn't carry the brand you're using
I bought Caron super soft... hope that works
Really like these, would like the printed pattern. Barbara
Hi ! Thank you for sharing this method. It was really easy to understand how to do and your explanation was perfect!!!

What do you mean why?
Thank you! I made one as a prototype, it's great. I'm gonna reduce the size a bit for my 8 month old!
Instead of doing 10 rows, I did 5. Instead of 6 for the thumb hole, I did 5, which made the thumb 10 around. Instead of 6 rows for the length of the thumb, I did 4. Caron simply soft medium 4 yarn with a 5mm crochet hook.
Thank you for sharing the changes you made fir your 8 month old....they were perfect for my 1 yr old
Thank you for this. My grandson is 1 and I'd hoped someone had adapted the size as I wouldn't have been able to.

Cheryl Rix I just followed along with paper and pen to make a written pattern.
Beautiful work as always 👌🏼n we miss you posting more videos.☺️

love this just wish there was a written pattern!
Hi, thank you. How long should we make the chain for to attach for a 2 to 3 Yr old toddler please?
I love this pattern the best! Thank you so much! I added a different cuff to it with a drawstring and I'm so happy with the end result. Great video!
Hello Do you have this pattern written out anywhere?
The second one always gets too big. I don't know what I do wrong :( Somehow at each attempt I have too many stitches.
Hope this is helpful.
beautifully taught!
Do you have a written pattern for it?
Could someone post the written instructions for these mitts?
See Liz Hibbard’s post, she wrote it out for us.
How do you adjust the count for a women's medium glove?
Hey Woolywonders crochet, how many chains do i need to go though inside of coat, my Grand Daughter is 1yr old, i dont want rhem to lose them

this is such an awesome tutorial. I'm a knitting girl transitioning into crochet and its been very helpful. I went out and bought the yarn needles and stitch markers - brilliant idea. My only question is how do I change the pattern in order to make the mitten for the other hand or will this pattern work for both hands?
This pattern is made to fit either right or left hands
How long string to crotchet for 4 year old?

Is there a written pattern for these childrens mittens?
Did she answer you? 😂
Hello I'm a beginner and have a question. I have made the first mitten and turned it right side out, this is for the right hand and looks real good. My question is do you make the left hand the same as the right one. How do I place the thumb hole? This is dumb question I'm sure but please answer.
Love this intructuction video! Where can I find the size chart?
I've just completed a whole range of your baby booties and want to do matching mittens.
Not sure about hook sizes for baby mittens.
Well I’m gonna give this a try ...it looks pretty easy ..thank you..I have 16 grandkids to make mitts for 😂..I wonder if I can do a ribbed st for the wrist? I’m gonna try it .
Thank you!! This was great!!
What size yarn are you using? Is it a 3 or 4 weight yarn?
Hi, I do not see the written pattern for these mittens. Could you please provide one in a child's small to adult large. Thank you!

Guys you are asking for free labor. Do it yourself
thanks for sharing your work
+N.Vidals Thank you very much for watching x
Do you have written pattern to follow along with?

I used a 4.5mm hook it fits my 8 year old perfectly
I had a similar problem. My daughter is 2.5 and even though I followed the measurements for 4-7 they are so small they barely cover her hands and the thumb is tiny. I'm going to unpick the thumb and try again and just add some length onto the end of the main mitten.
What size of crochet i use for 6 month baby mittens please tell me
to make this mitten of old person how many chains do i make please let me know
+darshi purewal ?????????
like with adults u have a left and a right is it the same with these and or booties for babys?or these fit any hand
+vicki jen Yes, you just flip them over to make the different hands. Thank you for following along x
+WoolyWondersCrochet glad u cleared that up
I'd like to add a separate cuff to make it a lil more snug. Does anyone know if there's a way to do that?
Hi, I made these mitts omitted 2 rows at the end of your mitt and used this tutorial: th-cam.com/video/i5F_OMt6eFc/w-d-xo.html only I chained up 7 chains, instead of 9chs. Cause I wanted the cuff to b a little shorter. I also used slip stitches instead of single crochet(except for the last stitch of the row) I did single crochet for that stitch to have a nice edging for the cuff. hope this helps. I know this is a year later but it's getting time to make mitts once again! 👍👍
will this pattern fit a one year old?
For the different sizes please see the description box below the video. Thank you x

So on round 5 total count should be 24?
