Taco Bell in the U.S. has been in trouble for leaving the meat on in the crock pot over night. Spoiled meat being served to customers. The beef they use is 40% meat 60% fat = to Alpo dog food. I will never eat there again.

From the time you received the food after ordering and brought it home. How much time went by approximately? Because Taco Bell does not “travel well”. You pretty much have to eat it as soon as you get it otherwise it becomes very soggy and a LOT less enjoyable. I have a feeling that’s why it’s not as good.

We used to have the 7 layer burrito here in the US. When I was pregnant with my eldest, 2001, I would send my husband out to get me some before midnight every night. They thought he was a stoner until I rode along with him. When the workers saw that he wasn't lying about his pregnant wife, they gave us so much free food and extra guacamole & lime sauce! Best night ever 😂!

A friend of mine used to work at Hardees, and he would cook up some extra fried chicken about an hour before they closed. Then he would call me to park out back at closing time, and he would bring me out about $40 in free chicken, they would have to throw it out anyway, so he would give it away to his friends. I did that about 2 or 3 times a week, and I would eat on free chicken for 2 days each time.

One across town I used to hit up on my home from work was always consistent and proper, but the one closest to where I live seems to skimp on items and has atrocious drive thru waits. And then there was a few years ago when they had an item called a smothered burrito on the menu and as I ate it had to tell myself, no, that sauce doesn't have the faintest flavor of chewing tobacco spittle, it's just my imagination...

We did have the 7 layer burrito in the U.S. I think it was introduced in the late 70's.
One thing is that we don't dip burritos or tacos, we tear the corner off a sauce packet and squirt it into the taco or on the end of a burrito (take a bite and repeat).
And it was from Groundhog Day, easy.

    • @emmef7970

So true. And when you are in a fast food joint and get the cups, it's poured on each bit. In a restaurant, spooned on from the bow the salsa is served in.
Taco Bell packets last about two bites for me. I need a handful to eat the whole burrito. At least four for a taco.

We were very well taken care of and although there was no fast food to be found anywhere, it didn’t matter as the food we had access to was delicious and more importantly, the folks accommodating. 18 months I’ll always cherish.🙏

If you want crunch you have to eat it within about two minutes of picking up the food. Taco Bell travels fine if you do soft tacos and burritos. Tacos are immediately consumed or they are not nearly as good.
Much like anMcDonalds fish sandwich. If you get them to cook a fresh one they are delicious. If they have been sitting then for a while then it’s like chewing on rubber

My daughter, a total California girl, did her neuroscience graduate degree at the Uni of Glasgow. She and her friends went to a "Mexican" place in Glasgow. Her description was hilarious! She helped them out where she could as it was definitely mostly Spanish and those two are not the same. She even introduced them to a salt rim on the margaritas, not sugar as was the only prior option. Those were light bulb moments all around. This was about 10 years ago so getting the UK up to speed might take a while.

I’ll probably touch on the obvious here but that is why the service is different in the U.S. vs the UK is simply in the UK they pay a normal~ish wage, where here in the U.S. if you work in the food industry your paid minimum wage, which nobody can live off of, plus tips…so they depend on tips to make money and it makes them want it give a crap about what you want to eat and your experience… vs the opposite… which you just lived… weird but truth… keep up the good work! This is true. From the time we leave with our bag of goodies and drive home, I’d say 10 minutes or 10-15 mins. I hope the H Family can read this and reply back? Maybe food prep person added more sauce? That could make it greasier. Timing the pick-up also matters. Fresh out most likely the best but not always possible.

If you guys are ever in Southern California you need to visit the city of San Bernardino. There's a restaurant out here called Mitlas Cafe. It's where Glenn Bell(the creator of Taco) worked as a teenager and eventually stole the recipe to open Taco bell. The restaurant is still open to this day. We are also the city where the first McDonald's was opened. There's a free McDonald's museum on the original plot of land.

Totally agree. Shredded beef, carne asada, pollo asada, carnitas. One of the best things about San Diego is having great Mexican food everywhere. Also, a must try is birria, ie: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc., that come with a cup of consomme. used for dipping or pouring. It's a whole other level of deliciousness if done well. Ed Fernandez near the border is fantastic. Great TH-cam video by Gareth Leonard
"Best BIRRIA TACOS in San Diego, California | Ed Fernandez Restaurant + Birria de Chivo!".
Personally, there is no reason to go to Taco Bell when I have at least fifteen, (possibly more) Mexican drive thru's, taqueria's, restaurants and a couple food trucks within three miles of my house in any direction. My job location in downtown SD is the same. In SD, a craving for Taco Bell would never even cross my mind. I have never suggested or had any family member, friend, co-worker, etc. suggest going to Taco Bell if we were going out for Mexican food. sacrilegious! jk, lol.
Rubios brought fish tacos to the country but here in San Diego you can get great fish tacos all over the county. :)

Taco Bell in the US does sometimes do Nacho fries, which are a type of seasoned fries. They aren’t bad, but you can get seasoned fries from Arby’s, Checkers/Rally’s, or Five Guys everyday. The crunchy taco shells tend to get soggy on the bottom quickly, but the rest of the taco still tends to be pretty good. Some US Taco Bell locations do have a 7-layer burrito and right now they have the volcano stuff as a special promotion.

It went by Bell’s drive in and others names before eventually becoming “taco bell”

The sauce is what makes the taco. Here in America we squeeze the sauce in the taco for whatever hotness you like, dipping is strange for us. Just open the taco or burrito and squeeze sauce in it. Do not be afraid to ask Americans questions about the food as you will find a better experience, usually servers leave up to the patron, but if you ask advice they will give it.

The quality of food and service varies widely from one Taco Bell to the next. I routinely drive past a Taco Bell on my way to the Taco Bell where I will get my dinner. The offending issue of the one I drive past is that their drink dispenser produces very diluted beverages.
What does not vary widely in any Taco Bell is the spice palette. I really enjoy the flavors there's just not that many of them. My typical order is crunchy taco supreme and beef burrito supreme. The biggest difference between them is the tacos are crunchy and the burrito is not. I am also in the habit of eating the tacos first because they will get soggy in the time it takes me to eat the burrito.
If I want variety, I simply eat at a different brand of restaurant.

Cheesy Gordita crunch MUST be consumed while it is fresh or it will loose its crunchiness. Taco Bell used to be better until 'YUM! Brands' bought them and started cutting corners on quality. They also did the same to Pizza Hut and KFC.

Baby H. liked what SHE tried. The problem is that you had to stick to name brands when you were in the US. Taco Bell is OK here in the US, but if you want good Mexican food, you need to stay away from the chains (especially fast food chains) and go to the hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. THAT'S where the good Mexican food can be found.

Honestly, I think you guys found a unicorn Taco Bell in Florida. My experience with Taco Hell here in Texas (and other places) is more like your experience with TB in the UK, food-wise anyway (the service is usually good here). The underlying theme, it all tastes the same. And if you order crunchy items and don't eat it right away (as in, eat it in the restaurant) then it will get soggy. Yeah, I think you guys got spoiled with a once-in-a-lifetime Taco Hell experience.

It was nice to see that y'all also have street blockages due to construction like us. ;) I like the idea of showing English food, but include also an Americanized version of it, and invite family or friends in to sample and comment on the differences. For example, the Sunday Pot Roast in the US we add potatoes, carrots, onions, & Lipton (brand) onion soup/dip mix and sometimes cream of mushroom soup and/or mushrooms.

I don't know how Taco Bell does things, but I know McDonald's changes their menu based on where they are located. I made it a point to try McDonald's at every country I visited just to see the difference.
The only place other than the United States that I have had Taco Bell was in Iraq. I can tell you that it was a MASSIVE difference between the two. The ones in Iraq seemed like someone making Taco Bell meals based on a what a friend of theirs once told their brother it tasted like.
