I recall Mike Burns ( mentioned in the video ) then chief tech officer of GFA. Gliding federation of Australia, telling me about John Dickensen and the origin of hang gliding , that was about 1980 .
Ryan aeronautical Corp built a large scale Rogallo wing with a seated pilot and several other early experimenters did hang gliding using essentially the same design in the 1920s but it was forgotten for many years until the revival in 1970 in California that it then 'took off'. Hargreaves and Pilcher or Liliienthal could have started a hang gliding movement had history unfolded differently , also Rheinhold Platz ex Fokker WW1 designer with his joined wing Rogallo type design post WW1. ( that rolled up and was carried on his shoulder on a bicycle...)
Fascinating interview and good to see him given credit for pioneering the sport.
Many thanks for all you did. I had so much fun, for so little outlay during the 90s. I already had a PPL, but hang gliding was far more enjoyable.
I can't wait to watch this after I get back home today . I have to work 😢😅
Many thanks! Great history here.

ΑLL MY LIFESSPAN PASSED BY THE THOGHOUT OF F= ROGALLO
I have dilligently collected for more than 50 years all the history on US hang gliding and much on foreign hang gliding. I doubt a more complete library exists than what I possess. I have studied every part and engaged with other historians around the world. I have been unable to confirm that Francis Rogallo played any role at all in the invention of the modern hang glider. In my view Rogallo deserves no credit or mention except to recognize that a massive hoax was created, cultivated, and propagated to misdirect everyone into thinking Rogallo played some important role.
