I remember my mate's dad in the sixties drove RTs for London Transport. Summer weekends sometimes he'd take the families down to Margate in one and I used to go with them. A long journey with the speed restriction and draughty with the back open, but got us there for a good day out. I loved the old buses when you went on holiday and they were always different and I loved the liveries. Now the seasides are a mess of dosshouses mostly and the buses are all Arriva clones. Sad to see so much go except on museum days.

Like the BartoN Transport Ltd photo at Nottingham Broadmarsh bus station,
Photo about 65/66, I worked for them from 1962 until the awfull trent takeover in 89,,
A job bus enthusiasts could only dream of I did
Breakdown and recovery local and long distance, minor repairs, emergency PSV driving if needed(voluntery) and overtime private hire driving available,
Thankfully many buses are still preserved
A wonderfull company decent bosses with an interesting fleet,,,,, Bill Redfern,,

I liked the photos of Midland General at Mount St and Broad Marsh bus stations, also WBUDC at Midland Railway Station and NCT Renown. One of the latter was restored but was lost to arsonists.

How come A E C Buseslooked so similar to Bristol Lodekka's?

Ron Powell Bristol as a state owned company could only supply other state owned businesses so they licensed their design to AEC (Bridgemaster) and Dennis ( Loline)

Funny, I never really saw much resemblance to be honest. Bristol's were considered a bit 'posher' in South Wales as we were used to AEC Regents and Lodekkers were rare. Sometimes the bodymakers copied designs that made it hard to identify makes (Alexander/ Northern Counties, for example!) and occasionally you could end up with oddities like an AEV Regent with an ECW body....!

The range & variety of bus design was awesome. Today's buses are so boring: CAD Boxed Clones. Almost every British bus maker, (Engine, Chassis & Bodymakers) all went to the wall or under foreign ownership... makes me laugh whenever I see on a University Campus : School of Business Management. British Management is almost an oxymoron at this stage....
