They need to make a Compact Living expansion; with lofts, spiral stairs and ladders, murphy beds, half-tile and quarter-tile sized objects, sliding doors/walls and room dividers, futons and day beds, more clutter items and nicknacks, combo appliances and plumbing, like sink/toilet combos, washers and dryers, separating bed frames, mattresses and bedding itself. That would just be divine.
Omg it really would! Spiral staircase sounds amazing. But I know you can get custom beddings and bed frames with custom content accept I can never download custom content so I can't use them but that should be a default thing in the game
I hope they do this because I'm not really convinced to get sims 4 otherwise. Except so I can be able to download these amazing builds.
i feel like when the sims start to really die down, make a game with everything that we always ask for in the base game, Seasons, pets, toddlers, terrain tools, apartments, open world, customizable item swatches, cars, and some of the cool things like vacation/holiday, schools, supernatural/making magic, etc. If they did that, they could charge a fair amount and if it were to be the last game they make, they would go out with a bang.

I agree, that's something I'm looking forward to more than any other expansion pack. I used to love the apartments in the Sims 2 so much, they added the most in terms of story-telling and gameplay possibilities for me.
I love how James puts functionality before looks. There are some sim builders who use all custom content and "build" and non-functional bed that just looks nice.

What’s crazy is that in the Sims 2 there was an expansion pack where you could do that. And it had Murphy beds

I'm watching this in 2021 and I would love for James to revisit this now that we have so many things he's wanting! It'd be so fascinating to see an upgrade to this!
you could do shops or club hangouts based on skills since it's hard to fit skill items in the apartments :)

Maybe one of those 'sip and paint' places? Or a community center? Most apartment communities have some sort of communal area for working out, swimming, and just generally hanging out. Not necessarily a shop idea, but definitely fitting for this build! (These are nice places... that HOA fee tho.)
You can put your easel and your violin in your personal inventory, and go to a park or whatever - it's nice going painting from reference in places with pretty views.

Interesting logic for sure. No room for your sofa in your studio apartment? Just make it fly! Iived in tiny Asian studios for years: in reality you just give up things like sofas and dining sets.
Only if sims4 add the function to have roomates.... Why they did everything in sims3 but not in sims4 I dont get it =_=
They'll add it as time goes on.. They wanna try to make as many packs as possible aka as much money as possible

I built a small apartment building today, got 4 sims live in it and all I did is just lock each door except for its owner but nah it kinda sucks 'cause visitors can't enter lol and if someone cooks for the whole household and they can't get the food :(
wish EA would really add some apartment feature (where you can build and own it) in the next TS.
VL DT instead of locking for "everyone except", try locking for specific sims, and locking out the neighbours one by one. Of course, that means the neighbours can never visit, but everyone else can.
With my apartment lot I had upstairs bedrooms, and locked those for "everyone except", but left the downstairs kitchen living space open to the world. They're all in and out of each other's homes all the time, it's neighbourly. Incidentally, if you put produce or leftovers in one fridge on a lot, it's available from all fridges, including other apartments. 🤔😅

+Another Comment True but as James has demonstrated here if you lay it out just right the elevated furniture can be functional, though the animation isn't there and the sim kind of teleports to it. The monkey bars make the elevated furniture unusable.

This is a super interesting build packed with new ideas that I haven't seen anywhere else before and the concept of lofts amazes me. One thing I'm wondering, though,is how a communal bathroom and possibly a communal kitchen could work in this build to be able to make the 'apartments' more spacious.

Idk why but I don't seem to ever skip ahead a single bit of his video and always watch through. Mainly because its entertaining to hear him speak, it's kind of like those live radio shows. Where they talk to everyone but don't have words planned out, they just say stuff until its all over. Its amazing and I love listening!

Imagine the reaction of the sims that live around these houses. Like say you’ve lived across from this vacant lot for years and then suddenly this house just appears out of nowhere. Just imagine how shocking that could be.
Don't laugh at me for this, but this was so inspiring, that I legitimately built this in Minecraft, on my modern city server. My members LOVED it, so I truly thank you for building this my dude. Maybe someday when I get a laptop, then I can come back to this video and build it in it's rightful place on Sims😊

So glad you did all of the testing. I have seen builds that looked great but it was obvious that there were places the Sims wouldn't be able to negotiate. This is a really fun build to watch.
Dude, I live in a crappy apartment called Willow creek. It's worse than what you're building of course.
I like the skylight on the walkways. Before you did that, I was thinking that small skylights would be cool in some of the top units. Also, I love the idea of a community underground. Here in Atlanta, they have built some big multi-use communities with mixed price housing and also businesses and shopping. They are doing really well.

Lunasaur yeah I agree, wouldn't these all count as one household too? Considering all the Sims that lived here would live on one lot? it would be a pain because the Sims 4 doesn't exactly have an apartment function
+jaimie saunders they have apartments with the pack but I don't think you can build your own. This would've worked great with ts2 apartments because the walls would be down for the other people and their furniture was hidden. And it was fun to have neighbours right there on the same lot, but different households
i like the idea you have about community areas under the apartments. You could have a restaurant, library, & gym like you said. Maybe even a cafe, bar or an ice cream shop.
Spa, library, restaurant, gym, parking garage, hot tub in a room, kids community room, bar. Just some ideas for underneath.

James you definitely need to use the column + frieze + curtain bed method for this build. Great representation for privacy & v cute.
I love this so much but it would get under my skin cause the sims would be all over the place! Ugh the struggle is real. Sims team need to get it together I haven't played the sims in 3 months which is sad ): haven't been caring for it lately
Yeah, I can't play or even watch it anymore unless it's a build video. It actually puts me to sleep... and I'm someone that used to pick weeds and shake trees in Animal Crossing for hours at a time.

Wow. This is what I love about the Sims. It really brings out so much imagination and creativity and YOU m, sir, have blown my mind, with this build once again.
I would definitely like to see a coffee shop and spa in the community area with a hipster book/comic store.
I recently started a huge castle build and I completely underestimated the size as well. I wanted it to be realistically filled and color themed properly. It’s taken 5 hours so far. I have furnishings left but I know a lot of rebuild is going to be needed for corridors and towers accessibility.

this build would make pretty good student accommodation, especially with more commercial aspects in the basement floor. that's what i'd use it for anyway.
Could someone please help me? In the beginning of the video he made a basement (I think) but then he deleted the ceiling to make a lower floor below the grass.

Chanie-marie Van den Berg Exactly like that. He made a basement, deleted the ceiling, and grass is a floor tile under miscellaneous, but it doesn't match the default grass in the game (it appears to be more manicured.) Hope this helps 😊
I absolutely love that you talk during your videos. It gives a sense of more originality and closeness, if that makes sense. I usually just end up skipping the majority of a video if there's just music in the background.

It's very common to have apartments on top of public places like bars, restaurants, stores, etc
TenshiNoodles That's a common thing in cities with mixed development.
I would definitely see myself living in that 3rd apartment. The overall layout is very nice and the apartment in general just works very well. Of course, the other two are amazing as well.
I wouldn't put a night club in the 2nd basement because it logically wouldn't make sense, a loud club under homes, people wouldnt be able to sleep at night because of the loud music. :)

Apartment living or Split Lots where you can have at least two types of lots in one lot. Like a business that’s owned by the homeowners right next door or above the business. Like with city living it would make so much sense because that’s how cities realistically are. Homes on top of businesses and such that’s why one building can be multiple different things at once.
When you upload it to the gallery, won't the raised objects move?
I don't think that they will
if you place it (especially without moveobjects on!) in your game, some objects might get messed up. but usually they shouldn't.
i imagine the pool marker thingys could be a problem tho, similar to carpets maybe? idk we won't see until he's done and we try :D

Sometimes he uses his builds as temporary houses for his sims, but he always builds a whole new house for his sims in his lets plays.
I honestly have no "actual" feedback....I'm just in awe of what a building genius you are. you never cease to amaze me with your creativity. damn...lol can't wait to see the rest! 🙌🙌

really love this build idea james! the last apartment was my favourite, so far :) also, I don't think a nightclub would be a good idea downstairs - too noisy (realistically) and could be too cramped for what a nightclub has to offer.
if you're going to make it a community lot too, my suggestions would be to put in a little library (a few computers, book shelves, place people/students can hang out/study), a gym and a cafe :)
OMG I LOVE THIS HOUSE! But I found something amazing! If you slow the audio down to 0.5 it's so amazing you have to try it yourself once you do it it makes sound like he's drunk cuz all his words start to slur together and it looks like he's just trying to think of a how to say stuff like if a drunk person was trying to tell you do dream of making a modern home😂😂😂😂

You could, but they would be just part of the same playable lot. In TS3 you could have sims completely unrelated to each other living in the same lot and they could interact with each other without much trouble. Idk if that's been brought to TS4 as well
James should use the same shell but furnish this again now in 2021, because so many more packs and updates came out with which he could make this look even so much better
does sims 4 have like... idk shared homes??? idk the word in english but in sims 2 (goddamn thas old) you had "young adult" sims unrelated to each other all living in the same lot as roomates.
sims 3 probably also had that but my family went broke before 3 got out so i wouldn't know.
also for the love of god just place tvs in front of the beds (unless that's also a thing you can't do in ts4), it's gonna save you so much trouble

I definitely think you should make it a community lot. It would be so adorable for people to go down into the "plaza" downstairs with a little cafe, library, maybe even a retail shop of some sort? As nice as it would be to have a mixed lot where you could live on a community lot, in all of your Rags to Riches you generally live on a community lot anyway.

you need testingcheats on and then you can just click wherever you want to teleport your sim while holding down shift.
for the cheat:
Shift + Ctrl + C and type "bb.moveobjects on" and press enter. Now hold Alt to move objects freely!

that is included on the base game you just need to click which side of the bed you want your sim to sleep on.
i tried to copy this in the sims freeplay when I was 10, just thought I'd mention this when coming across this video 5 years later. I just got the sims 4 last winter and I love it!

A studio apartment is usually just one big space that has the living room, bedroom, and kitchen all in one room with the bathroom being the only "room"
Yes, I think the word studio is meant to convey the fact of it being a single room excluding the bathroom. This stems from the older use of the word studio to describe the one room where an artist paints, sculpts, etc., in which he "studies" his craft. Often, if an artist was not well off in the beginning, that room might also be his dwelling.

Peole have been playing Sims since it first came out and still don't understand how money hungry EA is and will never give us what we want for free :D The Pets is really expensive for such a little content. Sims 3 Pets had way more content and it was cheaper. But hey, it's EA.

if you get your sims to be really good friends with a few people and the move in action comes up in the friendship interaction you could move in with a bunch of people in your household and just click on the front door for each one and say lock for everyone but that sim! easy!

James Meintjes You could either build a room, then delete the floor, then walls and ceiling. Or I think you can use the square tool, under the room build area, and delete it after you've placed it. I don't know if this works entirely, but I hope it helps 😊

I like the idea of having a community section there, with a gym, library AND restaurant!! (if you wanted haha, wouldn't function like that I know) Plus I don't think anyone would like living downstairs without any light/windows. Great build and whatever you do on the lower floor will look great anyway :)
