    I remember when I watched the original and thought the sequel would be Will Smith and Linda Fiorentino wearing the suits they had at the end of this one.
    Needless to say, when I found out what the actual sequel was like, I was disappointed.

    "We failed Linda Fiorentino,"...oh yeah, I have been thinking this since I recently re-watched "Vision Quest" (from 1985). I wanted to check out how it fared as a sports movie and how Matthew Modine was in it. While I hadn't forgotten that Linda was in it, I was impressed by her performance (the movie is fine). I also watched "After Hours," not knowing that she was also in that movie; again, she was great in an unconventional supporting role. Hollywood clearly didn't know what to do with her at the time, considering her notable later movies included "The Last Seduction," MIB, and then Dogma. My takeaway was that she was too capable and droll. They thought she was attractive enough to be a femme fatale, but perhaps not likeable/accessible enough to be a lead in a romantic comedy.?

    MiB is one of my favorite movies of all time. I rewatched so much as a kid. Even now whenever I put on a suit or sunglasses I say: You know what's the difference between you and me? I make this look good.
    While the second film is terrible I think the third one is actually really good. It has a lot of very emotional moments, Josh Brolin as a young K is fucking amazing and perfect and I really love some of the side characters like the fat guy with the time machine, Andy Warhol and of course the 4th dimension future seeing alien hobo guy. Not as great as the first one but still very good.

  • @Jordacar
    @Jordacar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I could change one thing in MIB to make it perfect, it would be the ending. K shouldn't have retired in that scene. It makes no sense to claim that K has been training his own replacement when J is CLEARLY there to replace D, who retired at the beginning. J's only been on the job two days, how the hell is he supposed to train L? The drama and the 'full circle' nature of the scene don't really land. And keeping K on the job would have improved MiB2, which had to spend much of its runtime undoing that twist. Naturally, they HAD to bring K back because they're a team and the chemistry is so good, but wouldn't it have been so much easier to just film a different ending? (And, of course, the cartoon just pretended K never retired.) It would have been nice to do three MiB movies (or more) with J and K, and have the THIRD movie end with that scene, to really hammer it home, end on a high note.

  • @ddei989
    @ddei989 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always heard that the reason Linda Fiorentinos career didn't take off was because she was difficult to work with. Kevin Smith even alluded to it in one of his "Evening With" talks.

    Not convinced Ed Solomon would have done the sequels justice. Yes, he wrote Bill & Ted and Men in Black. He also wrote Now You See Me 1 and 2. And Super Mario Bros.
    Also: Linda Fiorentino's career never took off because she is (allegedly) notoriously difficult to work with. Rumor is that the reason Tommy Lee Jones only returned for MIB 2 under the stipulation that Fiorentino wouldn't.

  • @grumpyhouse7621
    @grumpyhouse7621 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Okay. I'll admit it - I'd never given Barry Sonnenfeld a fair shake on his own. I saw the parallels between him & Tim Burton from the beginning, wrote him off as a wannabe & left him in that lane for at least a good 20 years. Not saying it's fair but it's what I did at the time & felt very comfortable about doing so.

    Linda Fiorentina should have been a massive star after The Last Seduction and would have got award recognition for it had the film not been shown on cable before going into cinemas thus eliminating it from getting nominated. (Hello Netflix). Also, another film that blends action, sci-fi and comedy very well is The Mummy (1999). I would even go as far as saying that its even funnier than MiB. But yeah, MiB still rocks. Hard.

      Idk about you, but I was gonna do that anyway. I hope it really delivers on the buddy cop aspect, I am more focused on that than even it being actually good. I just want male/female platonic parings to get popular in mainstream media. It would just make me so happy.

    Men in Black II Syndrome is when the female partner set up at the end for the sequel is killed immediately and replaced by the mentor figure who was the emotional heart of the previous film undoing the repercussions and deflating the tension.
    Kingsman II suffers this Syndrome.

      Mitch Gosser I so agree with this. Men In Black II looked great and like a fun ride when the trailers dropped in theaters in the spring of 2002. But when I seen the movie it felt like a lazy rehash of the first film with unnecessary celebrity cameo appearances, Johnny Knoxville, Nick Cannon, and Michael Jackson. And the heavy ass product placement of Mercedes, Verizon, and motherfucking Burger King. And the villain was a gender swiped version of Edgar the cockroach alien.
