I'm playing through FF10 right now. I just got to the Thunder Plains. I haven't played it in about 15 years, and honestly kinda forgot about a lot of the story. But I've been loving it again!
I got a glitch where killing a random creep got me the "perseverance" trophy, which you normally get from beating the practically impossible post-game final boss
Penance is far from "practically impossible". You have to have most of your stats on 255, have Celestial weapons or comparable weapons for your party and have very specific armor but the fight itself is rather simple. Rapid Strike against the arms, whenever they are up and when they're gone, Rapid Strike against the body. Keep yourself buffed and alive with Rikku's various Mix abilities. That being said, that fight does require your entire attention and concentration until it is over. If you miss something (like the arms coming back and the camera being at a dumb angle, so you don't see them and you might not be paying attention to the action bar on the right) or forget to reapply buffs when single party members die, you will die. I beat Penance on my third try because I made some dumb mistakes. But the fight is very very possible.
@ThorsShadow Yea I just read ur breakdown and I gotta say, that boss sounds like he's practically impossible 🤣 You have the best weapons and the strat down to all the specific armor needed and still need to concentrate the entire fight because one misstep can lead to getting wiped?!?! How can you have the word simple in that explanation? Lol
I dont know, texture packs aren't going to do much to fix the bad new 3D models because its still... the bad new 3D models. I'm just gonna keep playing the PS2 version until we get a mod that replaces the 3D models with the originals. Retexturing the original models seems like a much better idea than trying to undo the negative aspects of the new models (...without actually touching those negative aspects, *the models themselves*)

This game was so big for its time. It had characters with voices, you could switch characters in and out of battle, and it had facial expressions captured in real time. Something that was absolutely unheard of at the time.

From the stupid skill chart that seemed absolutely unnecessary to no world map or free roaming airship I was just super disappointed coming from FF9 not to long before. Ik the laughing scene gets hate but it's not bad voice acting like some people feel but in the context of the story you know they are forcing the laugh and that times are hard and they're just trying to do something to take their minds off the fate of the world. As far as I'm concerned, FFX was the last true entry in the franchise outside of some 2D entries and spiritual successors that came after. I don't count 12 since I see it as a spin-off tied more to the Ivalice games, nor the online games. And I found 13, 15, & 16 to be in-name-only.

I dont care if the correct pronunciation is teedus. Its just not how English works. It should be tie-dus because the first vowel is pronounced long when followed by a consonent and another vowel. Example tides tedious time. Now there are always exceptions cause the english language is stupid, example tiki. Plus titus is the closest name to tidus. Ive never met a teedus in my life.
Stop using the bad laugh as an example of something bad with the voice acting, the laugh is awful intentionally, even is the Japanese sub version. Titus did it to lighten the mood.
You can fix the mechanics all you want, but you cannot fix the garbage which is the story. Don’t get me wrong it has potential to be great and there are moments where it kind of Is, but let’s be real here Titus is an absolute joke of a main character and most of the story is just filler to you get to the important bits. My fix on the story is actually really simple and it’s Titus being responsible for his father’s death. The whole theme of the story is about Atoning and redemption, so it would be fitting that Titus is the one responsible for his father’s death and thus unleashing sin across the land. This also would make Seymour more significant because he also killed his father but for more selfish reasons. He’s your perfect mirror of what happens when you don’t atone or look for redemption. This would also make Yunas journey more tragic because she was raised her entire life to sacrifice herself to defeat Sin and it’s your fault. This also would be cool for Aauron to guide you on this journey since he’s dead itll give you time to bond and he helps you so you don’t become like Seymour. Then you are given a choice to either tell your friends what you did or choose to keep it yourself. Again with this one little change it would make Final fantasy 10 absolutely perfect.

You can fix the mechanics all you want, but you cannot fix the garbage which is the story. Don’t get me wrong it has potential to be great and there are moments where it kind of Is, but let’s be real here Titus is an absolute joke of a main character and most of the story is just filler to you get to the important bits.
My fix on the story is actually really simple and it’s Titus being responsible for his father’s death. The whole theme of the story is about Atoning and redemption, so it would be fitting that Titus is the one responsible for his father’s death and thus unleashing sin across the land.
This also would make Seymour more significant because he also killed his father but for more selfish reasons. He’s your perfect mirror of what happens when you don’t atone or look for redemption.
This would also make Yunas journey more tragic because she was raised her entire life to sacrifice herself to defeat Sin and it’s your fault.
This also would be cool for Aauron to guide you on this journey since he’s dead itll give you time to bond and he helps you so you don’t become like Seymour.
Then you are given a choice to either tell your friends what you did or choose to keep it yourself. Again with this one little change it would make Final fantasy 10 absolutely perfect.
