    I never cried at the loss of a popular figure. But the death of Chester did hit me in a way because of how much Linkin Park I listened to back in the days.
    What did make me full on ugly cry was the memorial concert Linkin Park gave in the Hollywood Bowl. They did this song completely without vocals...

    Dude, I almost couldn't get through this video. Like you, I've heard this song many times, but this is the first time I've seen the video and paid close attention to the lyrics. My middle daughter was an amazingly talented artist, like the young lady in the video. She battled and eating disorder and depression, and life became too much for her and she killed herself during her first year in college. Knowing that Chester took his own life as well, watching this video brought back a lot of my grief too the surface. To any of you considering taking the route that she and Chester took, please, please, get help. The pain you leave behind is absorbed by those who love and care about you and they are forced to carry it the rest of their lives.

I have one child, a 22 yo daughter that means everything to me. I just can’t stand to think of my life without her. I believe that it would truly kill me. For some In the End is that song. For me it is Numb. To know this beautiful, incredible man is gone still fucks me up. The fact his beautiful cleans and insane screams, highs and all his vocal talent will not be on another album 😔 Numb is so hard to listen, so thankful to this band. This is the anthem of depression. The words just hit true for all of us. I didn't know how to describe how I felt to anyone and I bet everyone else felt the same. Fuck that hurt to listen to. The meaning of the Song + Video:
    The video is about a young student, played by Briana Evigan, who is socially excluded and struggles with inner problems. She is introverted and spends her time drawing pictures, which is a reference to the song Breaking the Habit, originally called Drawing. At school she is teased and laughed at by teachers and students. When she falls, nobody helps her up and when she sits down with other girls, they get up and leave. On her left arm the word "Numb" (engl. "emotionless") is cut into her skin. In her room she throws her drawing against the wall out of anger and desperation and finally runs into that cathedral where the band was playing as if she had heard the band, but they have disappeared without a trace.

    • @ds90seph
      @ds90seph 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      This is a very literal reading of things, which kind of defeats the purpose of the general message in my opinion. The whole reason LP has such universal appeal is that their lyrics and their message is so relatable to a wide audience. I know that music videos may seem like they're the only representation of a song's meaning, but (as is the case with all music) you can (and should) separate the 2 as works of art on their own. The song was written separately and far earlier than the video was filmed, let alone conceptualized. It's merely a representation. Also, "numb" is an English word to begin with, so I'm not sure why you included that there with a synonym. No hate, I'm just cautious when it comes to this kind of reading. As an artist and a writer, I dislike it when people try to boil down the art I create to a single meaning, feeling or message. Sometimes broad and vague generalities are purposeful, because they allow for the reader/listener to craft their own narrative. It's the same with music.

    This song always reminds me of the toxic relationship I was in 15 years ago, around when I got my first Linkin Park album, "Live in Texas." She had a dream version of me that I always failed to be, due to my ADD( it was years later I found there were treatments for that) and depression( was apparently diagnosed when I was a teenager but no one told me.) I was conflicted by my love for her and my anger for her unrealistic expectations for me. It took me a while, and an eye opening experience with her, to finally be free of being bound to that relationship, and even more years for her to break free from her part of it, I think. The relationship was a hell we made, but I wish her the best.
    On a side note, "P5hng Me A*wy" the remix version of "Pushing Me Away", also reminds me of my relationship with her, and is an awesome song ( either version)

    I think nobody ever really has pointed out this before, but Briana Evigan (the girl in the videoclip) running towards the church in the end where the band's gear is set is meant to symbolize the fans recurring to their music to vent. I believe we've all been like Briana at some point, finding comfort and reassurance in LP's music because they knew from the heart how we felt. Words just cannot describe how Somewhere I Belong and Numb (and pretty much all of Meteora) have made an impact in my life. Godspeed Chester, you never left our hearts.

    I just came across your channel by accident but I've gotta say that I really enjoy your reactions. I am, however, surprised that you act as if you are just realizing how awesome linkin park truly is. They have ALWAYS kicked ass 😂. Chester Bennington is one of my all time favorite singers! So much talent! When they first started, I was working at a CD store (yes, I'm old) and I constantly recommended them to my rock customers. I'm not a huge fan of rap or hip hop... or metal screaming... but when they meshed Chester's voice with their hip hop, it was gold. I saw them for the first time at ozzfest, where we got to meet them. It was amazing

Later through the years I've learned to listen to lyrics and was able to connect to this band even further. I may not have depression but Linkin Park has made me somewhat of who I am. I learned that people have it worse than I do. When I listen to the lyrics, it tells me that I could be dealing with way more problems than I currently face. When I'm happy, I listen to the beat, when I'm down the words speak to me.
    I do request one song: Over Again by Mike Shinoda. It's a song that he dropped after Chester's death.

You have treated his legacy and memory with grace, diginity, and class and I thank you and that is why you are the best one doing these reactions. From when you do slipknot, mudvayne ( which you gotta do some hellyea), metallica ( who we need more of haha) to so many others you have went in opened minded and did not judge like we're devil worshippers or evil.
