Mine has an UGLY foam type original grips above & below the reel seat. Would i have to try to peel that off first or just do what you did? Thanks.

my question is can i repair my ferrules with shrink wrap even if I have to cut down the middle to fit the rod

I think that would be very difficult to do and the wrap isn't strong enough to hole the line
