  • The Big 12 is known for being one of the most competitive and unpredictable conferences in college football. Unlike some conferences where a few dominant teams overshadow the rest, the Big 12 boasts a level of parity that makes every week an intriguing battle. This depth of competition ensures that any team, regardless of preseason rankings or past performance, has the potential to win on any given Saturday.
    One of the standout features of the Big 12 is that there are rarely any "gimme" games. Whether it’s a traditional powerhouse like Oklahoma or Texas, or a dark horse team like Kansas State, Baylor, or Iowa State, the competition is fierce. Each season, multiple teams emerge as legitimate threats to compete for the conference title, making the race to the championship game an open and hotly contested affair. Even teams that might be seen as underdogs can pull off shocking upsets, adding to the unpredictable nature of the conference.
    The Big 12’s style of play contributes to this competitiveness. Known for its fast-paced, high-scoring offenses and innovative play-calling, games can turn into shootouts where no lead is safe. Teams often rely on dynamic quarterbacks and prolific receiving corps to put points on the board, resulting in games that are not only exciting but can swing dramatically in a short amount of time. This offensive prowess means that even lower-ranked teams have the firepower to challenge the top contenders, leading to a season where standings fluctuate week by week.
    Defensively, many Big 12 teams have improved in recent years, adding a layer of complexity to what was once perceived as an offense-only league. Teams like Oklahoma State, TCU, and Iowa State have emphasized strong defensive play, leading to more balanced, strategic games that require teams to be well-rounded to succeed.

    BYU still needs an upgrade at OC. BYU scored three points in the second half due to overly conservative play calling. Aaron Roderick never recovered, mentally, from ending the first half with an interception and lost the game because of it.

    Something to consider- BYU was playing a P5 schedule as an Independent. Yes, it was only 6 or 7/12 games, but they'd already been constructing a P5 team. None of the other G5 teams brought in can say that.

    • @fringeelements
      @fringeelements ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Eh.... The AAC was P5-lite, it was always on the cusp. And those P5 games tended to be soft - a lot of Pac-12 games, only rarely games against Oregon and such. Go look up talent composites. BYU has lower talent than 5 AAC teams.

    • @bigddan11
      @bigddan11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @fringeelements This statement alone is fallacy. Sure, if you rely on the starting metrics of 3, 4, and 5 star athletes you're correct. However that only applies to starters, not depth. Overall averages place BYU with better depth than any G5 team.
      Also I don't include Washington State or Oregon State as G5. They were Pac-12 schools. Their current rosters were formed when the P12 was P5. Get back to me in 3-4 years time.

    • @fringeelements
      @fringeelements ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@bigddan11 - The talent composite rankings typically include 70-80 players on the rosters. 247sports has them. Yes, BYU has some magic sauce that improves team performance way beyond their talent level, and their talent level is much higher than years past, but it's still the lowest in P4 and below several AAC teams. That's why they fade late in the season, because they have less upside as the season goes on.

      @fringeelements BYU would go undefeated in the AAC. It's not even comparable. Have you seen them play this season at all? I swear you G5 fans are the truest forms of delusion. Anyone that can seriously say BYU has less talent and would lose to the likes of ECU not only needs a drug test. They need a bed at Arkham Asylum.

    Washington St just lost to a bad MTN West team bro...don't worry bout them. And if my Buffs or ASU win out,& end up 11-2 as the Big 12 Champ,or BYU at 12-1-theres zero chance the Big 12 gets left out. Now if somebody wins it with 3 or gawd forbid 4 losses-ya then it's possible.

    Not shocked at the hate being thrown at BYU after ONE loss. The amount of disrespect they were getting from everyone when winning 9 in a row was insane. We all knew as soon as they lost ONE game the hate would rain down, even from the supporters when they were winning. People forget, this team was picked by these same haters to be at the bottom of the Big 12. Who cares what they think...

    It seems like ASU is playing better ball than BYU at this point. But that means nothing on game day. Edit: If you think ESPN would give a Big 12 team a home playoff game, you've lost your mind. Same reaon they don't want a Big 12 team to get a bye week or the 4 spot. Is the same reason no Big 12 school would get a home playoff game. This is a invitational. Don't ever forget that. They don't want a SEC playing a title game, playoff game, then have to play a rested Big 12 champion. So having a Boise is a easier road to have multiple SEC teams in a semk final. And they dam sure not letting a SEC team face a BYU or Colorado in Utah or Colorado. They mighy send Indiana there or something. A SEC team in Colorado or Utah in December with 14 degree weather and snow, you're crazy. This playoff and every playoff after will be setup for the SEC and Big 10 to have the best chances to win.

    CBS Sports and Heather Dinich of ESPN are predicting that the winner of the Big 12 (Likely Colorado) will either get the 12th seed in CFP with Boise State taking the 4th seed or two G5 conference champions in (Boise and Tulane/Army) and the Big 12 not in.

    We will have to sacrifice some bowl eligibility here. Just let the games play out how they go. Rooting wise I think we need ASU to win over BYU and Arizona and BYU to beat Houston. We need Colorado to Beat Kansas. We need ISU to beat KSU and Utah. That would be four 10-2 teams going into the conference championship That will sacrifice Bowls for Houston, Kansas, Arizona and Utah. We need West Virginia to beat Texas Tech to make it to 9 Bowl Teams. but we need UCF to beat West Virginia and Utah to get us to 10 Bowl teams. RJ Harvey deserves to have a Bowl Game the team and coaches let him down. And it would be a positive for the Big 12 that UTAH a Top PAC school who thought they would roll through the Big 12 . We need Cincinnati to Beat TCU or K-State to get us to 11 Bowl teams (which is 2 up from last year) And it would be cute if essentially BIG 12 Texas to continue to roll through the SEC. More important we need all the Bowl teams to win their bowls.

    Things wont get better at BYU until A-Rod leaves. However, that wont happen since Kalani doesn't see a problem. I hope A Rod can figure it out but the offense the last 2 years was not good and this year they are very shaky, inconsistent, and yes, lucky. The teams in the big 12 that are near the top have shown improvement every week. That is not true for BYU as far as the offense. It is getting worse. I predict BYU will lose to AZ State. It will be a huge collapse. Unfortunately.

    SEC is not that great! It’s just football. They are going to shoehorn 4-5 SEC teams in but keep out a conf champ and runner up from Big 12? Sounds stupid and will cost the committee. They must be liberals!
