Milo, I can’t express enough how much this channel has helped me. Through drills, and rewatching my swings on camera, and rewatching the vids on this channel, I have been able to consistently strike the ball very well. Needless to say, my biggest take away from all of this is how the overall golf swing works, e.g., not swinging with your arms but with your body. I wish I lived in Arizona to get a live lesson but am thankful for your vids! Please keep them coming, awesome stuff!
Thanks for following along and your kind words! If I can ever be of further help to you in learning to Swing Like an Athlete, please do check out my website at milolinesgolf.com for in-person or online lessons, golf schools, or to become a member of my Online Academy.
Great video. I have a strong grip and always struggled with pulls and hooks. Combining this advice with keeping the right elbow more tucked in through impact has made a big difference.
Been an avid golfer for nearly 30 years and was getting fed up with my game. This video somehow has helped my game immensely, the feel of the right arm under the left through impact is a completely new feel for me. Thank you Milo!
Without doubt the best set of golf instruction videos ever for me.I think I’m learning the right way to swing the club.I’ve only been playing for 46 years. Thanks
The one guy was right that many cannot get in that position. Many cannot because of a big belly in the way. Neither teacher addressed how to overcome that. I borrowed the great drill they give from 6:45 on and added a workaround for the big belly player. Here's what I added: The key for the big belly player is this: You must have enough clearance in the downswing so that the trail elbow does not run into the belly while entering the impact zone. Why? Because if the elbow hits the abdomen, the release happens too early - ball exits stage left. Having that sort of physique, I found it very helpful to find impact with a cleared trail elbow in a preview. (In other words setup in impact just like Milo shows. Then as he ably demonstrates, gradually lengthen the backswing always returning home to that impact position. It's a great drill he gives that trains you to feel the posture and motion needed to get to that impact position. It turned out I had to place my trail elbow sort of on top of by abdomen and take a more bent over address posture to get the arm clearance in the whole motion. If I setup with the Trail elbow behind the abdomen, then that's where it would return in the swing and presto, chango, el-hoooko! One side benefit of putting the trail elbow on top of the abdomen at address is that it is a perfect place to chip and short pitch from. It forces the short swing to have arm swing and body swing coordinated. I got that from Kevin Kisner video (Thank you Kevin Kisner, you are a gosh darn genius!) And Thank you Milo for this most excellent drill.
Absolutely love this topic (and video). Without question, club face stability allows for more consistent ball striking at the highest level. Milo makes a great observation regarding the right arm (with bend) “on the shaft or under the shaft” at impact. I think a missing element is the position of the body which allows for the “lowering, opening, and bending to the right” (in Milo’s words). In order to achieve that action, the upper body must remain stacked over the lower body in the downswing. In other words, there cannot be much separation between the sternum and the pelvis coming out of transition. The chest must be downward facing (with pelvic flexion). That body positioning allows for the “clearance,” as Henry points out. By the way, I was not a fan of Henry when he first joined Milo. He seemed stiff and reticent. Now, however, I really enjoy Henry’s contributions. He has relaxed, opened up, and is obviously very knowledgeable of the swing. Thanks for sharing this video. Keep up the great work guys! 👊👊
I tried side bend from just hearing about it but was having trouble hitting behind but since I’ve watched you showing how it should work no more behind the ball!!
My golf coach, Clive Tucker (McDowell's coach) taught me much of what's in this video. AND these positions can be met when you are older - I'm 75. 😄 I was taught the right arm under the left as here. But what helped me most was the 'chopper' drill. With this, you start a normal grip/stance, but with the toe of the club hanging straight down. Now rotate the face by coming straight up and clockwise - like going round a beach ball - get the toe to now face the back of the ball. Your grip is now 90 degrees strong compared to normal. Swing back normally keeping to toe pointing down along the swing arc - then downswing to the ball imagining hitting with the toe. You'll feel a real sense of a really deep right shoulder, right very much under left and your right elbow coming across to your belly button and on through at impact - and the face stays 'open' in the follow-through as in this video. That drill gets you into all these positions Milo is describing and showing here.
Another great video I especially like how a lot of the drills you have shown lately start at impact. Then you just do foundation 1 first and then add foundation 2 once you master #1 Great stuff
Milo, this is something I'm really trying to incorporate as I think it's the most effective way to deliver the club. My feeling is that if I can get my lead hip as deep as possible in the downswing everything else will follow, am I on the right track?
You are correct, sir. Lead hip depth allows for proper right side bend and a bent right arm on (or under) the shaft at impact, which is essential to achieve that club face stability you desire.
I was getting great contact with this swing but was hooking the ball. What fixed it was to keep my wristwatch pointing out as long as I could through the swing. This stopped the early rotation, and squared the club face.
YES - I'm ten years older than you and I can get it - see my comment above of how I was taught all this just last year - so you can do it - I'm 75 and 175 lbs. Now down to h/c between 13.4 - lowest ever. You can do it!
Where does the snap of the club head happen generating speed when the body is delivering the club. I have tried this and do find it more stable for sure but coming from a generation where the forearms trading places at impact (ie Couples, Michelson) really gave the ball a smack if you will although timing was paramount. So you ride the club up until it releases? Thats what you seemed to say. When you do it it looks like an elongated chip shot. Hope I wasn't to confusing but anyway I really enjoy your sight.
With this drive-hold method are we still getting the action of the lever where the clubface rotates around the hosel? Remember those Cleveland vas irons that had the hosel more in the middle of the back of the face? With the strong (closed) grip and the hold, are we losing some of the inherent design of the club?
there is not one PGA pro that doesn't have some face rotation from P6 down into the ball,,the thinking of you can square the face early and just turn just doesn't happen in the real world
@@joebunc technically you are correct it’s impossible for a myriad of reasons. When one moves well physical forces create all of that squaring for you as the angles naturally unload at the proper time, However the goal of this lesson is to show you what you are trying to do in order to reach impact with the trail arm in the line of compression so that you don’t throw all the angles too soon and suck like most players.
Thanks for the video as per usual. Hey Milo, couldn’t help but notice the shoes. I have a pair of them still hanging around that I find comfortable, but not quite supportive enough when using the ground a lot in the swing. They are kind of different but cool. What do you think of them?
yes,,,all great players and most pga tour guys captured on gears "shake hands with the target" after impact..Not hold it off,,,now as Milo said it's after impact, so yes the back of the left hand faces behind you at p9 and arms extended
I'm having some pretty good success with this indoors in the dead of winter in NH. I'm hitting off a mat, can't use more than 4 wood in my basement. Launch monitor loves most of them, but I do tend to miss with a ball that starts at our just right of target and over draws. Any way to know from that description what I need to work on? When I get to hit a driver off a tee, I'd the action the same or is there a release at impact there because the ball position is more forward? Great stuff Milo, I haven't seen anything like this online.
Pretty much same with driver, just later in arc because of tee height and ball position. Swing is also a bit more around because of club length. Sounds like you are progressing well, but if we can help further, please do check out our online academy at milolinesgolf.com where we give monthly analysis, webinars, step-by-step method, etc. 👊
Milo, one of my friends who plays on the Asian tour, said that there is no relationship between a good ball striker and clubface rotation. If you look at stats, is this true?
It’s a complicated question because of how face rotation is measured. We generally measure face rotation in degrees per second so because players all swing at different speeds we see very little correlation. I simply go by what I see movement wise from the vast majority of top players. If you go through the top 25 players in the game today you’ll find nearly all follow this pattern.

Depends on matchups with your grip, but for a strong left hand grip that would align. Good to hear!
Yet again an incredibly crucial video, thanks 🖐️.
You bet, thanks for watching!
Hey Milo would you see distance from the ball at set up have much impact on being able to find this position?
Does this concept work better with the idea of a "throw" release vs. a "twist" release or does that not factor in?
Throw as in extension to flexion. I don't like twisting or rolling of the arms and clubhead.
Great video Milo, it provides a great visual for me and very informative as well.
Glad you enjoyed it Mickey!
Most beautiful swing ever..Rory has toe up after impact.
I preferred young Rory’s swing, but he’s great no doubt. My face rolls at full speed after my right arm extends post Impact.
you deserve much more followers! Cheers from Germany

Thanks for the lesson. I have a tendency to pull the ball to the left when I get into this position
I'd have to see what is causing that. Have you looked into our online academy at milolinesgolf.com?

Excellent. Could you go a little further and talk about angle of attack and making a divot (shallow I assume) with this impact thought?
Good topic request Pat, will have to do a video on mastering the bottom of the arc...or something along those lines 👍

The speed still comes from the wrists unloading but we prefer to limit the rolling of the face.
The most beautiful driving range I’ve ever seen.
A great spot!
