Shouldn't show clips from this series going forward. Especially when any hint of part 2 deflates the hype for those catching up on part 1. I'm caught up on the anime and don't know how things will resolve, but I don't need any hints. The 2nd opening is all I have to go on.
Woah Crunchyroll acknowledged 86?! No way! But seriously, 86 is criminally underrated by Crunchyroll. If it were to get the attention that other shows got, it would be insanely popular.
I just really appreciate how they use cinematography techniques like match cuts, the use of backgrounds and environments to symbolise things. On top of other things like no dumb cliche anime tropes, just kicks this show above others
I binge watch this just a while ago, saw the 11th episode and was like "NO, YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME," only to find out the second part was just starting. It's probably going to end up being the only LN series I will actually buy. (Or at least the gateway drug for me buying more)
I think it will end on what was originally the end scene of the first book when it wasnt going to be a series. When yes Lena finally meets the surviving spearhead, without realizing who they are until they break down laughing at her.
Lol then you might be dropping and re-picking up this show often. There's gonna be a lot more depressing scenes with some wholesome/uplifting scenes sandwiched between later on in the series.
@@UsDiYoNa I’m gonna tell you just this: there is a super wholesome scene way down the line if 86 gets to season 4(?). Think of Final Fantasy 8, a certain event that everyone has a good time
@@Cryogenx37 I've started reading the Light Novels and by Final fantasy 8 do you mean that fans will start making theories about Shin being dead and all of the events where just him in purgatory?
The same way they still had merchandise like that during other wars? Yes, silk for parachutes became in short supply, but turning offcut ends of fabric into bears, in a war of spider tanks....seems reasonable?
It's all about the message and themes that both seasons/cours portray. S1/cour 1 focused on how the 86 were treated as nothing but tools of war, can be replaced, used as cannon fodder, all while a naive handler tries to "connect" with them thinking they're both equals. The first part of S2/cour 2 is focused more on "well we survived, now what?" and see how the 86 "re-discover" their humanity and figure out what they wanna do with their lives. However the 86 feel uncomfortable with the "peace" they've been given, so they decide to go back to the only thing they're familiar with and know they're good at: fighting in wars. In addition, there's world building; that there's countries other than San Magnolia that are still alive and fighting, and how they're gonna fight the legion while at the same time try and figure out how to interact with the 86. Also, the naive handler, Lena, has grown more mature, realizes her past mistakes, and has become a much better commander through experience.
@@Cryogenx37 I never said, I don't understand the story. But S1 was able to tell its story more creatively. We had scenes shown to us from one perspective, only to later change the perspective and show it again from the other side. Not only that, but since we had a protagonist on both sides, we could learn about both sides. S2 takes the easy route by just telling us the story of the 86 from their point of view. There is nothing special in their story. Not to mention that the story while only focusing on these 5 characters doesn't even bother to give them their own characters to begin with. All of them had the same reason for continuing to fight. They just copy-pasted the same development on 5 characters which is lazy imo. Even S1 tried to show different interactions and different reasons for their continued fight. It wasn't that different, but it was at least something. You could cut every 86 except Shin from the story and nothing would change now. The other 4 are barely even in the show after the 1st episode. Compared to what S1 was able to do in the first 4 episodes it's a downgrade on all fronts, because we don't even get to see any fights, so even the animation is less interesting to watch.
I mean, it is very different because we are on another country. Now, quality still there, writing still solid, the "creativity" is strong than never with a lot of symbolism and excellent direction. But if you are anime only I can see here your point, those first few episodes adapted Vol 2 with is the weaker of the 86 volumes, things should picking up by next episode.
@@wakumi1662 What I meant about creativity was that there is no creativity in the presentation anymore. S1 had this really good idea to have a scene play out from one side only, just to then switch sides later on. Especially when first viewed from Lena's side gave a much better understanding of her just by presentation, because we could understand why even though she wanted to, she couldn't fully see them as humans, because she only heard them and never saw what actually happened. And I feel, S2 could have done something similar as well. Especially when it comes to Shin or the 86 in general. Show their behaviour from a different point of view to make a point of why people would think they way they do around them. But we only ever get to see Shin's point of view.
@@Modie As I said, I can see your points. I kinda knew that was coming when Cour 2 as announced, the lack of "showing the other side" is strong for those who really liked how Cour 1 was handled. This is was very surprising (in a good way) way of Handling the story by the Director, LN is not like that, but of course the Novels have stronger world building and presentation. Cour 2 (Vol 2 and 3) is a point of view of the 86, this is very clear on the Novels. I have by no means the right to judge your opinion, but give it a try for next few episodes if you can. It will defininly not change your point of view but maybe you can still find some other reasons to like the story. Maybe everything will be worth on the last couple episodes.

Watching this after seeing episode 16 today is like getting kicked in the nuts. My god this series can do it all.
The low flying anime of 86, I'm rereading the LNs, one of my favorites. And is 1 of 3 series I reread.
