Earnest question here. What was so wrong about Skip's tweet? All he said was they have to figure out the game and the playoff implications, but it seems irrelevant in comparison to the Hamlin situation. Maybe I'm missing something
I think it was just the high sensitivity of that moment. The tweet being so focused on the scheduling and importance of that game and not just being worried about him.
He tweeted while dude was still on the ground. If he'd waited to tweet it until after we knew Hamlin was going to be ok it would've been nothing. What he said was ok, it was the timing. He failed to recognize the humanity of the situation.
Looks like people were4 offended that a sports commentator would dare to mention the practical complications the situation would have on the sport instead of purely focusing on the medical situation. I think that it was a massive overreaction as well, for the record.
@@stoneylonesome5826 there was nothing wrong with skips tweet but what does that have to do with them messing up the damar Hamlin situation his tweet was saying how his health was more important than even a game that was extremely crucial.
@@oNextq no, I agree the game shouldn’t be cancelled. Not just because that particular one had playoff implications, but also because it would set a precedent that every game could be canceled due to a significant enough injury.
Demarr Hamlin didn't even play and had no impact on his team in 2023. Unless you just want to turn it into some feel-good award, Joe Flacco was clearly the player with the biggest *impactful* comeback that year.
Then change the award name to most impactful, not comeback player. Or split it, one be a comeback player, one be most impactful. Hard to see why coming back from the dead wouldn’t be seen as a comeback but that’s the NFL writer’s decision.
The whole thing is a feel-good show. And the awards are too subjective to logically argue. Like it was said earlier in vid, Hamlin made a comeback to life, Flacco made a comeback from his couch, lol. They were both feel good fodder just like Geno Smith the year before and Alex Smith before that.
@@notorioustori yeah, no. That’s stupid as fuck. I couldn’t give less of a shit about Hamlin making a “comeback to life” to play zero football. This isn’t an award for the National League of Medicine lol… NFL awards should go to football accomplishments. In any case, Hamlin didn’t win and I’m glad.

I think Skip also changed his dynamic and persona post Shannon. And I don’t think he’s done yet. He’s the villain who needs a proper opponent. If and when found, the dynamic will refresh the desire for viewers to see him fighting stubbornly to the death for his eccentric viewpoints, I still think the fact that Skip and Nick Wright don’t have a show where they exclusively talk LeBron vs Jordan is literally a crime against humanity. It’s the grudge match this current age of gossipy sports media needs. They’re literally like the antichrist of each others perspectives. One thing I deeply respect about Skip is he made it a point early in his career to not befriend players or become a locker room reporter because he thought it would stain his objectivity. I’m sure in 99% of instances, the feeling was mutual, but even GM version of Michael Jordan couldn’t escape Skip’s wrath. I think a place still exists for him in sports media because he’s just too hated and fans relish too much in seeing him defeated in arguments etc. But he’s gonna have to find that spot again to reignite the fire. Skip is stubborn, has some whacky opinions and outlandish interpretations of sports topics. But I’ve never once found him dishonest. A hater, biased, or otherwise, sure. But I’ve never felt like he wasn’t telling me what he truly felt.
You’re telling me that people don’t want to watch a sports talk show where the host makes the most outlandish predictions about the most overrated athletes? Nooooo😂
What’s truly insane about that Skip tweet regarding Damar Hamlin is what he tagged on at the, saying that the regular season outcome “suddenly seems so irrelevant.” He wasn’t just trying to have his cake and eat it too, he was trying to sell the bakery while baking more cakes.
When skip told Shannon, “you ONLY won three superbowls and is jealous of Tom Brady.” Skip was totally dismissive of sharpe’s career. Dude is on the mt Rushmore of tight ends.
My wife HATES sports. She wouldn't piss on an NFL player if he was on fire. And one day a few months ago I found her watching the Katt Williams interview. That's when I knew Shannon had reached the mainstream.
Everyone was upset and looking for someone to attack. Crazy that people still haven't gone back and read it with a level head. Any outrage was the result of misinterpreting what he said.
People often do this on social media - but the outrage was mostly that he tweeted about the game/league and how things would be handled logistically and people got upset because the tweet wasn't about Damar Hamlin and concern for his well-being. Which is dumb and a functioning adult should be able to do both. I think Skip's handling of the tweet after the fact was bad, but I thought the tweet itself was fine and people way overreacted.
Flacco should have got the award over the guy that had 3 tackles. It’s an award for an improved performance not a lack of one. And as far as Skip’s apology goes, every time you open your mouth you risk offending someone, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t speak.

The tweet controversy is wild to me. He literally said this situation sucks for the NFL and everyone lost their minds. Absolutely baffling behavior honestly.
whining about a football game while a player is lying almost dead on the field surrounded by paramedics is disgusting and got exactly the response it should have
He didn't say that. A guy literally died on the field and Skip is talking about what the game means for the regular season. Who the fuck cares what the game meant to the regular season??? A guy literally died!
It’s because not only was that the wrong time to worry about scheduling, but his wording also suggested that postponement was a bad idea. We didn’t know if Hamlin was going to live or die at that point. Even if all he did was say “this situation sucks for the NFL” (which is not a full description), anyone in their right mind would’ve said “who the hell cares?”
I also think this story came around the same time the Texans owner made insensitive comments about his players comparing them to inmates, so black players and media personalities were understandably sensitive to begin with. I could be wrong about the timing on that though
When I first got more into football I'd watch undisputed's clips on youtube and I always found Shannon to be more endearing and entertaining. At first I didn't really hate Skip as much as everyone else, but over the course of casually watching them over a year I began to just dislike the guy heavily. I never knew when he was being sincere or just being hyperbolic to get views. He became increasingly annoying to me.
Did anyone actually read Skip's tweet or did they just say he was being an a hole. He literally said that none of that seems to matter right now i.e only damar mattered right now
None of those idiots read it it. I understood it right when I first read it. Everyone just looked for someone to be mad at. Lack of comprehension skills...he said it was irrelevant. Poorly worded but I knew what he meant
I love Shannon Sharpe and I'm just a low level finance employee. He is so inspirational. He is so diligent and wise. I'm subscribed to both Nightcap and Club Shay Shay. I hope to one day be as committed as he is to everything he does.
Lololol. Hater... This way guys. Found the hater. Lolol. When Shannon started doing media, Pat wasn't even in the league yet. Pat now has the #1 rated daily sports show and Shannon has the number 2 rated sports podcast, behind New Heights. So Pat and Shannon aren't even competing head on. Club Shay Shay is weekly. The Pat McAfee Show is daily. If anything, Shannon is competing with the New Heights Podcast... And losing.
Yea it’s ridiculous that people freaked out. He literally stated that the game outcome is irrelevant. You know if it was SS that tweeted that, people wouldn’t have an issue. Pathetic
It was the timing. This was the Monday Night game and Hamlin had basically died on the field and they had to keep him alive with CPR before paramedics arrived. This wasn’t an “injury” - this was a life threatening issue that happened on the field of play. He potentially died from an innocent play. Well later that same night Skip tweeted this before we even knew Hamlin had survived, but was in critical condition. The spirit of the anger was basically "Let's find out if the kid survived before we worry about how we can resolve the conclusion of a football game."
I believe it was a problem of framing and timing. He made it sound like he was questioning how the league could possibly consider postponing the game, even though Hamlin was still lifeless on the ground.
Totally agree with everything you said here. Nice to see a non-comedic bit from you! Nice journalism. I don't particularly care for Shannon Sharpe's guest selection on his show so far. I admit that is because there's nothing about them I can identify with or have in common. The interviews have been interesting and open up a new perspective. I'm hoping as his show matures there will be a bit more diversity tho. His sports takes are amazing. He's clearly VERY intelligent and he understands many things in the sports world. Really happy Stephen A gave him a chance to land on his feet.
Shannon Sharpe is fine. He talks too much and always have. I love him on the field. He’s fine off of it. Y’all are def balls deep on Sharpe, but I’m like whatevs I guess. I don’t get this whole parasocial stuff people do these days.
So they fired the man and still made him do an exit job interview on national television. No wonder the man was having trouble keeping it together on his last show.
Sorry but that Tweet wasn't remotely bad. He said the outcome seemed irrelevant now. Clearly indicated the magnitude of the moment. Its not like he said Fuck Hamlin finish the game 😂
That's not what he said. He literally was talking about how this affects the scheduling first and then throw in that line about it not mattering as an afterthought.

I think people overreacted. If he would have said that the next day nobody would have said anything
Looks like people were4 offended that a sports commentator would dare to mention the practical complications the situation would have on the sport instead of purely focusing on the medical situation. I think that it was a massive overreaction as well, for the record.
People wanted a reason to be furious and Skip gave them one. Just misplaced anger at someone asking a valid question.
The day I found this channel and Grossi, I was so happy to never have to watching these shouting idiots again.

@@stoneylonesome5826 there was nothing wrong with skips tweet but what does that have to do with them messing up the damar Hamlin situation his tweet was saying how his health was more important than even a game that was extremely crucial.

Racist much?
Demarr Hamlin didn't even play and had no impact on his team in 2023. Unless you just want to turn it into some feel-good award, Joe Flacco was clearly the player with the biggest *impactful* comeback that year.
They quietly benched him. Too much risk.
Then change the award name to most impactful, not comeback player. Or split it, one be a comeback player, one be most impactful. Hard to see why coming back from the dead wouldn’t be seen as a comeback but that’s the NFL writer’s decision.
@@ginnyweatherbee7941Comeback to the NFL, Hamlin came back to life. Life isn't football /j
Skip blew it…although I am not a fan ESPN it is a better deal since he doesn’t have to do it all the time like he was on Fox Sports 1.
Does anyone actually like Skip Bayless? I feel like his entire career is built on intentionally making people hate him.

I think Skip also changed his dynamic and persona post Shannon. And I don’t think he’s done yet. He’s the villain who needs a proper opponent. If and when found, the dynamic will refresh the desire for viewers to see him fighting stubbornly to the death for his eccentric viewpoints,
I still think the fact that Skip and Nick Wright don’t have a show where they exclusively talk LeBron vs Jordan is literally a crime against humanity.

I still don’t understand what was wrong with his tweet
Everyone was upset and looking for someone to attack. Crazy that people still haven't gone back and read it with a level head. Any outrage was the result of misinterpreting what he said.
People often do this on social media - but the outrage was mostly that he tweeted about the game/league and how things would be handled logistically and people got upset because the tweet wasn't about Damar Hamlin and concern for his well-being. Which is dumb and a functioning adult should be able to do both.
I think Skip's handling of the tweet after the fact was bad, but I thought the tweet itself was fine and people way overreacted.

The tweet controversy is wild to me. He literally said this situation sucks for the NFL and everyone lost their minds. Absolutely baffling behavior honestly.
It’s because of who he is & what he has done for 2 decades. Ppl were waiting for him to f up..
whining about a football game while a player is lying almost dead on the field surrounded by paramedics is disgusting and got exactly the response it should have
He didn't say that.
@@teelowteelow356 People=Shit
It was Skip's "but how?" that people took exception to. It easily makes his tweet look like he's questioning the idea of not completing the game.
