  • Road side detailed shots of my ‘74 Shovel. Transmission just redone with a new 4th gear primary and secondary, needle bearings, and properly sealed output shaft. Since my last vid I had a fuel leak from a rusted out right side tank, and used tank sealer epoxy to hold me over while I source another set of tanks. Might just use this as a chance to try out some different paint colors to see how they look in the sun (will paint when it’s warmer).

      I had re-set the air fuel mixture on that ride, and ironically, I just pulled the bike out this afternoon. Fired up on the first kick (after my priming kick with the choke). That makes it a great day!

    love you bike man, beautiful clean lines, hey I know your is a 74 with a 74" but probably you know more bout shovels in general, I'm looking at an 81 with an 80" and "low" miles, not being too familiar with shovels I've had Evos and TCs, how dependable are they? does the hemi head really foul that many spark plugs? have you had a hard time finding parts for it?

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the reliability is probably just as good as anything from that era, but finding knowledgeable people to work on them is more and more difficult. These are much more “hands-on” than any Evo or newer bike .... when was the last time you’ve adjusted pushrods and valves? Things like that are something to consider, and like a vintage VW or Porsche, they seem to have a drip after every ride, no matter what.

    Crackin auld shovel,pure music ! Is it a standard motor with the super b and thunderjet?
    Where did you end up with the jets?Thanks from Scotland : )

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - thanks! It's a standard motor with the Super B, and I ended up reducing the slow speed jet by 2 whole sizes, so I think I ended up at .028" with that one, and I can't remember the main jet size right now. It was pretty fat before, and would foul out almost immediately if I missed kicking it correctly and getting it started.

    • @Rubber21
      @Rubber21 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dadmodewheeliegang I am led to believe with having the thunderjet that the main jet can be reduced and the jet in the thunderjet feeds the bikes top end.Hope to be fitting a super B with thunderjet soon as I like the simplicity of them,just curious regarding the jet size in the thunderjet too.

      @@dadmodewheeliegang\, I miss the good ol days. I had many of these back in the day. The last one I let go of was a 1960 FLH Pan lower shovel upper. I miss that one a lot. After many heart operations, I had to give up riding. Glad to see some of you youngsters keeping the light lite.

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much Kevin. Growing up, it was always a dream to ride a shovel, and I remember thinking (early 1990’s), that I’d never be able to afford a big Harley. 30 years later and it’s now more expensive to ride and maintain and older Harley versus just buying a twin cam road king. But I wouldn’t trade the shovel for one :) Hope your heart stays strong!

    🟠🟠🟠 A super B carb on 3 kicks ??? And instant idle ??? Really ???

    • @dadmodewheeliegang
      @dadmodewheeliegang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It happens!!! Sometimes it starts on the first kick when it’s completely cold! But in general, it’s much easier to start when it’s already warm. I downsized to a 29.5 slow jet from a 33, and after setting the air/fuel adjustment, it’s been much easier to start, though it’s lost a little of that “overly rich” full sound.
