I will always be grateful to 'EastEnders' back then, I wrote a fan letter to June (Brown), little did I know that writing that letter, June would become my best friend, a friendship that lasted 37 years until her passing in 2022, I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful friend, always had such good, sound advice, full of wisdom, she was beautiful inwardly as well as outwardly, no nasty side to her, I was so blessed to have her in my life.

What a lovely story, thanks for sharing. In my opinion, when it comes to EastEnders characters, June created one of the all time greats in Dot.

When Eastenders was good. So many here now gone. I have to say this documentary is very odd tonally.

I agree about the tone, and I find it odd that the interviewer keeps asking the female cast members about their relationship status!

Oh yes, speaking to Lou Beale reminded me of Julie Walters in the making of Acorn Antiques. I'ts a Haemorroid Preperation to be brutally Frank. Julie Smith the much feared Executive Producer. Don't talk to the press if you like having knee caps. Which came first? This docu or the making of Acorn Antiques? How may times did Michelle Tully lick her fingers?
I don't think people realise how huge EE was back in the day. They even did the EE singalong album.
The camera's on me there isn't it Simon Yes? Tea Break? Simon?

Interestingly, The Making of Acorn Antiques aired on 18 December 1987, over a year after this 🙂

Back when it was a good reflection of East London. Now it is as far from London as you can get.

I remember this. Eastenders was brilliant back in the day. The cheap set looked so good back in the day. Today its like all the other soaps. Sexually objectifying men and demonsing them at every opportunity. The irony. Yes this does remind me of the making of Acorn Antiques. Thanks for uploading. Yes it's not crossroads but this soap was magic when it first started. Today it can hardly muster viewers yet the BBC wasted tax payers money on a new set. Should have ended enders years ago.

I don’t think it objectifies or demonises men. They’re all flawed people. Good and bad men and women. Some worse than others but there’s been tons of female villains

You just know the current producers don’t care as much as they did here for the writing and performances

I would say that has been the case in the past. However, I think the current producers are superb, EastEnders is on fire at the moment - best soap on TV in my opinion 🙂
