Oh my goodness - I just realised after five years of watching the odd All The Stations video that in the final piano part of the intro music, there is a voice rhythmically singing the words "All The Stations All Of Them".

I've not posted before, but I felt I had to say thanks to Geoff and Vicky for your fascinating series of videos - I'm totally hooked on your rail adventures! The London ones (almost) make me wish I were still living back in the capital, but nowadays, living in the Fens I can easily visit the weirdness that is Shippea Hill!

The area of development of the Olympic site used to have freight railway sidings, and many businesses but very tatty. When I worked nearby most of these along Carpenters Road were closed and very rough. The road I used had rows of burnt out cars when I used that road route from the A12 to a college on Stratford High Street.

  • @ianmcclavin

I rode on one of the last trains into Broad Street just before it closed in 1986. The station was a shadow of its former self then, with most of it already having been turned into a building site. They constructed a curve linking the line through Dalston Kingsland with the Liverpool Street line just north of London Fields Station (the Graham Road Curve, which still exists today), so that they could run the remaining ex-Broad Street trains into Liverpool Street, but this then became little more than a Parliamentary service, which was frequently canceled!! They then announced a formal notice of closure,.due to not many people using it!!
We've gone full circle now, with most of the Broad Street line reopened, and Shoreditch High Street station providing a connection close to the Broad Street/Liverpool Street area, and at least 6 trains per hour serving it !!

Your declaration that your journey was starting in Clapham brings up the ongoing loss of identity that we who were bought up in Battersea resent so much. Back in the day when the railway came it was decided to name the station Clapham Junction rather than Battersea Junction as Battersea was a bit too industrial inner city. Even today retailers and estate agents are chipping away at my old Borough with South Chelsea and Clapham or Lambeth popping up in descriptions. Clapham Junction is in Battersea and we're proud of it!

On London Overground and Underground they make regular announcements asking people not to do it. On the new Thameslink trains the doors are wide enough to allow people to alight and board at the same time.

I was feeling homesick for London watching this, then I saw that and remembered!!! You forget how rude everyone can be in London.
Rather impatiently I used to declare quite loudly: "Please allow passengers to disembark before boarding... oh no you didn't bother"
I was quite considerate when younger but it used to so annoy me I'd just barge through!

I used to take the North London Line in the late 90s to get from Gunnersbury to Highbury & Islington. It was very...functional and the trains were not busy at all but it was nice to travel without going through busy central London. Loved the video, and have added the Brunel museum to the next trip list!
And I'm glad Vicki took the bus to Richmond Park. It is much more than a few minutes walk!

Some people might say that the Royal family and Palaces is Londons main feature, but the jewel in the crown is the Underground system. I'm a northerner but family lived at Kew and I was fascinated by the tube, the fact that from arriving at a station, within minutes I could get to anywhere in London virtually stress free. I'm not really a city person but I love London and I think that is all down to tfl and the underground.

A LOT of the traffic at Imperial Wharf will be from Chelsea matchdays, as most of those flats around there are empty because they're foreign bought investments, but it's still true, build it and they will come: I used to walk up to West Brompton when Fulham Broadway Tube was too busy, but it makes sense to walk the other way down the line when they've built a station there.

The traders at the old Stratford Centre mall originally feared the worst when Westfield was due to open, but the influx of additional shoppers in the area actually had the opposite effect and the centre is doing well. The recent addition of a Lidl has boosted it further.

I live near Stratford and when Westfield opened up we all thought that Stratford centre and a nearby cinema would shut, but it didn't. If anything they're all busier because of the influx of people due to the flats and the fact that the shops are cheaper and usually not ones you can find in Westfield. E.g. There's literally two poundlands next to eachother in Stratford centre

    • @peterthepainter5332
      @peterthepainter5332 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I was born and bred in Stratford , I can remember it before the old shopping centre was there let alone Westfield. I recently paid a visit to the area and a lot of the people who work the market stalls in the old centre are the sons and daughters and grandchildren of the people who ran the stalls when I was a kid. Even the chip shop behind the Swan pub were the same family who had the chip shop called The Brothers in Water Lane when I was a youngster . :)

The Euphrates Tunnel was _allegedly_ a 0.6 mile tunnel, built under the Euphrates river in between 2180 and 2160 BC. There is writing describing the tunnel, but as yet no trace of it has been found. If it did exist then the Thames tunnel was the 2nd tunnel under water.

Clapham North on the underground and tube car map had the BR interchange pictogram by its name. The OSI should be extended to include Clapham Common - It would create footfall for Clapham Shops and reduce platform overcrowding at Clapham North. The Overground South London Line should have interchange stations put in at Brixton and Loughborough Junction.

Geoff? Is with all the many lines and many ways of transport and with the expanding of make the district more
valuable the Stratford train station a much more bigger project station than the new London Bridge station??? Is it more exciting?! Could it be for big city train station lovers as myself and you really exciting exciting exciting?? Or is it mwoah? It's a pity they didn't mention Wanstead Park (the actual park, not the station) which is one of the biggest parks in London, especially if you include Wanstead Flats, but hardly known outside the area.
