Saying it's $100 doesn't show how much it costs, it shows how much cheaper it "could" technically be. Could be the case that the kit itself costs $25 dollars to fabricate and they're making x3 in profit. Would it be better to not touch base with budget oriented people and having the ability to upgrade later down the line? It does hurt other companies around that price range but it does offer something more to the consumer later if they decide to pay. What is the bad in this, is there any bad in this? PixelFX is giving a price on what their fleshed out features are worth and I think that's the only reason why people are upset. They could've released just 1 GEM product for $180 and I don't think people would've been this upset, or upset at all. It could've be the case that they were factoring $80 for the time spent developing their previous products but the hardware could've still made a profit at $100. They've touched base with a cheaper alternative which may leave a sour taste to those who pay full price, but in reality the previous products could've been $100 + full features this whole time, who knows.
TH-cam compression. 4k allows a more accurate representation of what you would see. Even if you're on a 1080p monitor, because of compression 4k is more accurate on a 1080p display. Compare 1080p to 2160p in the racing gameplay, especially at 6:22, look at the trees/smoke at the left side, it's a bit clearer at 4k. It's pretty much for the picky people lol.
Can you upload video of Retro GEM soldering to the ps2 and video that showcase some famous game quality with mod like gta san andreas ,burnout, god of war....
Do these all support dual output (digital and analog)? I have all of your/Dan’s previous boards but haven’t had any of them installed yet what are the differences? Is there any advantage to these new GEM mods that the WiiDual, PS1Digital, DCDigital, N64Digital do not offer?
I can answer some of that. All those products are retired now, but the Gem with its shiny package will be equivalent or better than most of those projects. Xbox replaces the Analog port with HDMI, so no dual output. Wii will be using their own custom code so it won't be based off GCvideo like the Wiidual and every other Gamecube and Wii solution. No word on if it will make the console HDMI only, but don't expect RGB support like the Wiidual has. It will also be up to 1440p output unlike the Wiidual with its simple 480p passthru. PS1Digital is 1080p and the new one will support 1440p. N64digital already retired the version with dual RGB and HDMI output. I'd imagine the Gem will offer the same features, but the analog port will be stock with no antiblur or other n64digital analog perks. DCdigital hw2 version of Gem will likely be about the same as the existing hw2 mod. DCDIGITAL Hw1 version was 1080p and replaced with HW2 1440P. It's new hardware though so we'll see how long they can keep new features on the older generation of mods and the Gem. Not that there is really any hot new features expected, but time will tell.
This isn't the kind of install for novices. Most of the soldering required will be on chip pins with around 0.5mm of space between them so some form of high magnification and soldering skill would be needed
I think this is great. For those that just want a basic digital signal to upscale to 4K via RetroTINK 4K (hence you won't need internal upscaling), you can save money on the mod. It would be way more expensive to have to pay for features you won't use anyway. Way to go PixelFX!
What a fantastic idea to homogenize your offerings into one PCB/product. I hope everyone realizes this means that availability should be much better in the future... of course hinging on continued availability of components. I would bet, though, that this was a HUGE design parameter when choosing components. I can already see a hacking team shoehorning the upgrade for free. It'll be a shame, but that's life today.
This is awesome a Blueretro treatment for HDMI mods. A one for all true HDMI Mod that does 1440p. This is going to be easy for PixelFx to stock up on since it’s one mod. But i want to see it support more consoles, the Gamecube, i know there is the Dual but i would like to see that be revised for this. I also want to see this for the Sega Saturn as long as there is no soldering to the PLL chip, for later model PS1’s along with every PS2 revision including the PSX DVR, Neo Geo consoles, CPS2 aswell as support for 8 Bit and 16 Bit Consoles along with HDMI to Analogue adaptors for it to be used with CRT’s/PVM’s.

I love the PS2 so much, but i am so technologically inept I know I will mess up the installation process. If anyone reading this comment is interested lmk. Thank you :)
IDK what people are talking about with this video "tearing down" your competitors, but I do think it's tacky and distracting. Still excited for the product and bought it on the hopes that the 1440p output, completely not shown here FOR SOME REASON, is sharper than the 1080p or that somewhere in your video's production chain things were mishandled a bit.
I have been following this for some time now and am super happy with what they have done with this. I do not think the pricing structure is a bad thing personally l. I have ordered to basic and will see how my system is with it. If my external scaler does not fit the bill I will save up and grab the upgrade. Thanks PixelFx. Finally digital ps2 😎
Or maybe wait for rt4k or at least morph, those are more if someone want 1 or 2 adapter max, dor multiple consoles, its better to do upscaler, 1440p max on those, 4k for rt4k or morph
I don't have a hard stance on the "DLC" and am willing to have my mind changed, but I'm more okay with it than not. Here's why. I'm unsure if hard numbers could extrapolate the cost of their previous products. There’s probably a way, but even without the numbers I think it's fair to say that it's likely the time spent developing was taken into account for pricing. All we can really do is look at what their pricing is or was and compare it to the GEM. DCDigital: $200, N64Digital: $220, PS1Digital $160 Assume there wasn't any "DLC" for the GEM. $180 for all the bells and whistles. 1 product. Would you still feel like you're being skimped? I wouldn't, I was already primed for a price of around $200. It even has the ability to be installed on multiple consoles, which (I think) is a first of its kind? At a slightly cheaper price too. At the very least as a consumer we are getting a product that is a one size fits all for cheaper. Better for more product output (better for consumers), cheaper for the company (better for them), better pricing for us, which btw they could've fucked us very hard on under the guise of product complexity, but they didn't. Big win for the company, small win for us, could be better yes, but it didn't go backwards. It seems like the only reason why people don't like the "DLC" is because it shows how much "cheaper" the total package could technically be without taking into the amount of time spent developing a product like this, and years it took beforehand to acquire these skills. If you truly want to be frustrated about what we're being offered here, I don't think it's the $80 upgrade. We don't know what their arbitrary price for licensing was, there's nothing to compare it to. Here's to direct your frustration elsewhere. PixelFX could've easily made this a single purchase solution for the current 4 consoles and future consoles. An ultimate end all be all (in terms for 1440p, not 4k) solution where you don't put the GEM into a console but have it be an external upscaler. 1) Install the ribbon cable into the console that outputs to a port of some sort, 2) the new port on the console connects to the external GEM. The external GEM could have multiple receiving ports for multiple ribbon-modded consoles, automatic switching depending on what console is on, open source firmware, etc etc Only a 1 time purchase. Not needing to purchase multiple GEMs for each console + $80 EACH TIME for said console. Only needing to buy the ribbon cable that goes into the specific console. This is what we COULD'VE had, it's 100% already there. In reality, the Shiny Edition is still a skimped version, it's the $99 version at $180 when compared to the ideal. I would pay much more than $180 for this ideal version. At the end of the day, I'm still more okay with this than not, they are a company. Companies will play the long game. The product still sells because of demand. We do at the very least seem to be receiving something of value, and the time and skills these guys have developed over the years, probably even decades, are paying off. I don't think we've lost anything here which is why I’m slighting towards being fine with what they’re doing even when looking at what it could be.

Why did you scale the entire Gameplay of the Games to 4K in Premiere? Why did you not just keep it at the actual real output Resolution?
TH-cam compression. 4k allows a more accurate representation of what you would see. Even if you're on a 1080p monitor, because of compression 4k is more accurate on a 1080p display. Compare 1080p to 2160p in the racing gameplay, especially at 6:22, look at the trees/smoke at the left side, it's a bit clearer at 4k. It's pretty much for the picky people lol.
Will this affect my ability to be able to still cheat and use my codebreaker disc
This is AWESOME!
Currently what does the old version for the PS1 support? Is it just 1080? Is this new version better than the original one specifically for the PS1?
Where are the install videos for all the consoles? Need to see if its easy or difficult!
The biggest thing I see is 1440p support
I’m curious how it compares to the PS1Digital…
I have component cable and ossc, should i upgrade for ps2?
not worth it imo. ossc is amazing for ps2
I have one question will i b able to play my physical ps2 game with this or is it like an emulator
This is an HDMI upgrade for your console, not an replacement for the optical drive. You'll still be using your physical discs.
@@ians_parks excellent
WOW! You exceeded all expectations I had, impressive!
Congratulations and thank you for all the dedication you have put into these products!
Make it work with the pikachu n64 plz ._.
yes yes hack your finger still cramped?
Will there be install instructions around pre order time? Wondering how hard this will be for novices?
This isn't the kind of install for novices. Most of the soldering required will be on chip pins with around 0.5mm of space between them so some form of high magnification and soldering skill would be needed
@@Maylu169 I've always done these without magnification, but yes, this is not a novice install at all.
Interesting creative and tonal choices lol. Stoked for PS2.
Will i actually be able to buy any of this or is it going to be perpetually out of stock like usual?

This looks great! Any news on the Morph though? Or is that not happening anymore?
I think this is great. For those that just want a basic digital signal to upscale to 4K via RetroTINK 4K (hence you won't need internal upscaling), you can save money on the mod. It would be way more expensive to have to pay for features you won't use anyway. Way to go PixelFX!
Sold me easily with that price tag, amazing. When can I preorder?
He said the date in the video
@jengelenm Yeah, I posted the reply before the end of the video in my excitement and didn't bother to correct it. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Great video can’t wait for the preorder
Hey, i am willing to PAY someone pretty well to let me ship my PS2 to them with a retro gem, and they can install it for me and ship it back.
Playshayshun
Now we need one for the NES
I have been following this for some time now and am super happy with what they have done with this. I do not think the pricing structure is a bad thing personally l. I have ordered to basic and will see how my system is with it. If my external scaler does not fit the bill I will save up and grab the upgrade. Thanks PixelFx. Finally digital ps2 😎
PS1 Digital vs Retro Gem, answers below
I'll need it to work on the OG Xbox as well. 😊
Im going to need a bunch of these. 1 for every console it supports
then a second of each after it fries the console.
Or maybe wait for rt4k or at least morph, those are more if someone want 1 or 2 adapter max, dor multiple consoles, its better to do upscaler, 1440p max on those, 4k for rt4k or morph
done my preorder for ps1 : D
Waiting =)
Si funciona es suficiente :)
This is incredible! Great work - I can't wait to get my hands on some of these.
Any chance of Saturn support? 🥺
DCDigital: $200, N64Digital: $220, PS1Digital $160
Assume there wasn't any "DLC" for the GEM.
1) Install the ribbon cable into the console that outputs to a port of some sort,
2) the new port on the console connects to the external GEM. The external GEM could have multiple receiving ports for multiple ribbon-modded consoles, automatic switching depending on what console is on, open source firmware, etc etc
Only a 1 time purchase.
!!!
Shut up and take my money!!!!!
look... i know no one like paywalls but ive been trying to get the old n64 digital for years. and im sure as heck not paying 450 dollars to those arsehole scalpers on ebay.
Guess i can sell my rt5x now
😄 what the hell did I watch.. I'm In ...!
The down votes and the comments here. Wow, many of you come off as super entitled. Go touch grass.
Learn the meaning behind the word entitled lol
If you don't want to pay for it, then just say that you're broke.
