I wish we could have a different driving mode for bobtail and shopping over here (U.K) !! European regs say ; driving is driving is driving!! Our 'Digital Tachograph' system is very much the same as Qualcomm. I'm pretty much the same as you Jerry, seeing your driving time visually displayed saves a lot of time and helps your 'parking up' planning. Interesting Vid' once more , Thanks!
13 hours of driving, 14 hours of total onduty allowed, within a 16 hour window meaning that throughout your day you can be off duty after your first 15 min at a delivery and not lose out on driving time as long as you dont exceed your 16 hour window. And if your running slow for whatever reason and you end up recapping, its 70 in 7 days not 8 so you get hours back one day early, but on or before your 14th day of recapping you need to take 24 hours off.
Now that I've seen how they work I will say that those e-logs would be handy for you highway guys that look to max your mileage every day, but for me as a bush hauler they'd be nothing but a pain in the backside. Fudging paper logs is the only way for us to remain productive, as we spend a large amount of time out of the truck as well as in. It's not that we want to, its just that a good portion of our days are wasted working our loads and on site delays, they burn through your operating window without actually going anywhere.
Enjoying the video's, tyty :D Im not terribly thrilled about the concept of these electronic logs, but i havent had to work with them first hand so my opinions uninformed. After watching this, they look pritty handy, but where's your copy of your logs? Will the company send them to you, or do you forfit your 'yellow copy' by using these things? I like the paper logs for record keeping: personal performance tracking (mpg/ avg drive spd/ # of loads/ mileage/ etc), and proving work experience.
I gotta wonder how much those Qaulcomms cost? They really seem to be keep track of everything you do as a driver and benefit the company a lot. I take it you cannot surf the net with one though?
have you ever thought about becoming an own/op?? either way, like to know pros/cons of your opinions on that topic...maybe a future video on that?? thanks, enjoy your informative videos...
but recapping is normally not an issue, in the 8 months with my current company ive only had to recap once, normally they got the miles to keep me busy enough that im at 70 hours in 5 days and they just have me reset at a terminal.
hey ther and Good morning My name is Alexander I am from Israel in February 7 I will immigrate to Ontario Toronto I sow you're video blog and I can see that you are a long time professional truck driver that knows his job So I wante to ask you a question about somthing If I do my A class driving license In Ontario and then flay to British Colombia Vancouver Because I have a job there does Ontario license Good for British Columbia Or I have to do averting from the start Thanks :)
So with the e-logs, if you take 15 minutes or less breaks, do they help in extending your 14 hour window in Canada or do they count against it. With the paper log, break should be in half hour icrements to extend the window.
paper or e logs you can not extend your day no matter what in Canada you have a 16 hour window and in US you have a 14 hour window and the only thing that changes that is your 8 or 10 hour break respectively
to Mr.trucker making this video Iam old skool trucker 36 yrs plus I have used these e logs and this is the most stupidest thing that came out in the trucking industry this is for the new breed trucker that likes to work for free and stay in there plastic shit box trucks that they have out today the only advantage I see with these e logs is for the bigger trucking companies is every mile is accounted for when they file there quarterly fuel tax everything is documented and you get to stay out in your truck longer and make these big companies more money.
e-logs came out because to many "old school" as you call it drivers where cheating on their logs and A getting caught and B getting into big accidents forcing the powers to be to implement these rules because of all the atavist groups putting pressure on the politicians who didn't know anything about trucking to begin with but it kept the voters happy. It stops companies from forcing the drivers from doing ilegal shit and stops drivers who think it's OK to run 23 out of 24 hours. Sorry but I was old school but agree with e-logs I just think it needs a little tweaking and then it would be perfect
Erich Von Brown - I feel truly sad that you are so bitter. The truly old school 'Cowboys' cheated their logs so bad, just so they could get what they thought was a decent check. The reality of that is that the old Cowboys honestly screwed themselves and the next generation (what you sound to be self describing) over. They paved the way for the excessive greed of the trucking concerns. The action of cheating the log and the law allowed the the concerns to come to the notion that the loads were basically getting trimmed in cost so long as the drivers were stupid enough to show less hours of service than actual. My sympathy comes in the fashion of being for your obvious lack of comprehension of the damage you've basically admitted to doing to all following drivers. Here's the thing. I don't work for free. I don't work in a manner that reduces my income and cushions that of the company. So if you truly believe that cheating the log was worthy of admitting then you're not an honorable person. But I do see your perspective on the new 'plastic' trucks. Yes indeed. Why on earth would any driver find enticing the notion of fabricating the compartment where one lives for so very many days per year out of materials that are so very much lighter that they of ford the manufacturer the ability to create an even larger, more comfortable. more appealing environment in which to be crammed into like a sardine in the cans that those very drivers haul around this nation. It's absolutely disgusting, appalling, and inexcusable. Seriously, your attitude is reminiscent of the picture one gets of a grumpy ass that goes out and commits heinous acts against those that don't think the same. You're not going to do that, are you. I ask with genuine concern. You are so bitter over situations that you admittedly help to create ultimately. Yeah, I realize my illustrations are a bit zealous, but they need to be. You come on here and post comments that are worded to at least two different effects: To bully those not of your buy-in to the old dishonest ways, and: Your comments are worded in a way that easily could place you at the pivotal point of some psycho action that endangers others lives. Grow up, old timer. Use that grey matter for something other than hatred.
ha ha your full of bull. It is the way of the future with large company's so either you get on board with the program or you get out but stop whining about it.

Adrian Foekens He was currently signed in as off duty, so it's not going to let him select it again.
I had a demo from Landstar on these devices and you covered all the same points, nice job.

Hey Jerry I like all your recording's,dave in the seattle area.
Great Video Jerry!
I love your vlogs
i use the exact same unit, why is your offduty greyed out? your company does not let you go offduty for food and washroom breaks and stuff?
have you ever thought about becoming an own/op?? either way, like to know pros/cons of your opinions on that topic...maybe a future video on that?? thanks, enjoy your informative videos...
how do you find out what companys have e logs and who uses paper logs??
but recapping is normally not an issue, in the 8 months with my current company ive only had to recap once, normally they got the miles to keep me busy enough that im at 70 hours in 5 days and they just have me reset at a terminal.
Thank you!
Very useful video. Thanks!
The only people signing a petition against electronic logs, are people who cheat logs.
hey ther and Good morning

How different are the HOS in "north canada Jerry?
Rules for north of 60: driving 15 hrs a day, on duty 18 hrs. Need 8 hr break daily.
So with the e-logs, if you take 15 minutes or less breaks, do they help in extending your 14 hour window in Canada or do they count against it. With the paper log, break should be in half hour icrements to extend the window.

electronic log books looks like its way easier to do. your not adding all those hours up of driving etc
great video sir thank you
I enjoy elogs no more dispatcher harassment!!!!
No it added to your 14 hour hours ,,
