I know very little of my own fijian heritage and fully appreciate this on so many levels. My mother's Saurara family connection are from Suva I know and the small village Langere❤. My Grandfather I was a chief who turned down the role apparently tly reasons being corruption he knew. I have been told of the " witchcraft " side of things and watching this it was so good hear the traditions of the purest forms of spiritual tradition. My mother told me Kava was not suppose to be a social everyday or so I'll hangout as it evokes spirits that can come through based on the value or la k of. Great to know the was a wide variety of tribes who viewed kava diffently. The chewing of the root in some tribes reminds me of souh American forest tribes who knew the same " chewing of their special plant root that would invoke deep connections to the " otherside". ❤Venaka Vaka Levu

Bula, glad to hear that you learnt a lot from the video series. I've got a google folder full of ebooks about Fiji's history so let me know if you want a link.

I would love to be able to learn more from this man, my father would have loved to listen to him! We have ancestors from Lau and Vanua Levu in Fiji. Thank you for hosting this space on deeply meaningful aspects of Pre-Western contact Fiji. Love it!

Vinaka vakalevu for this epic knowledge from Sydney. This is amazing information and very relatable to our family especially re: the sau turaga
As kids we weren’t taught the meaning and protocols as we were made to align with western culture. So this information is timely and relevant.
    Thank you so much

Cultural heritage version is interesting. For example; deities/gods for all things; such as farming, fishing, weather etc. Please share evidences of these spirits; such as Daucina, the moving light on the coastal areas? Could you please further the research to the originality of this cultural heritage since wave of migration from Nile region/Eastern Africa

Thankyou for this series Tumeli. So interesting. I'm wondering how the priests were chosen? Were they trained for their roles from childhood?

Vinak vakalevu Tumeli kei Qase Simione!
We need to decolonize ourselves. The white jesus paining is not jesus! Jesus looked like us look at the bible.
We need to stop relying on the bloody West.
