Your playing by ear reminds me of the time my big sister, who played the violin, heard our great aunt play a song on the piano. My sis banged on the piano keys, once, to find the notes, & then played "Exodus" straight through & perfectly. Our Mom, who was looking for my sis, thought it was our great aunt playing the piano & when my sis told her she just listened to the song & played it, our mom's mouth dropped to the floor.

When I was a kid my uncle was a massive drunk and one time I was playing for a family gathering. My uncle had been passed out in the other room so it was a perfect chance go play because he wouldn’t get grumpy. Everything was going so well until he woke up to the sound of my violin and broke it in front of my whole family. I was so upset and I went to my room and cried for hours and hours because all I wanted was my violin. After that my parents instead of buying me a new violin they told me to play the small piano keyboard we had in the loft instead. It was so dusty and didn’t really work. But I played it for 2 years. I eventually found a public piano in a pretty dodgy tunnel in my city. It was so out of tune but it was better than my keyboard. Every day after school I took a detour to this piano and played it, whilst a homeless man that eventually began to speak to with years to come laid next to me and listened. We spoke a lot and eventually we got to talking about the love he had for instruments and that before he was homeless he had a violin of his own. He had to sell it when his family became broke during the 08 recession. When I went home all I could think about was how good this homeless lad could have been had he still had his violin and the recession never happened and it made me think about where I would be now had I still had my violin.
A year went by and I still played that piano, and as time went on the homeless man stopped appearing. I never knew his name. I always wonder what happened to him, sadly I think I know.
What I realised whilst playing for him in the tunnel and hearing about his story was that no instrument is better than another. I know you said you wanted a comparison between the violin and piano but I can’t. Yes I loved the violin more than the piano but the sounds you make don’t differ, you can still make someone’s life a little better no matter what string you pluck, press or stroke.
I want to win this giveaway, not for me, but hopefully to find someone with a similar story who I can help, to make their life a little better. We all need a little nudge of confidence and help when we can get it.

The Sweet Alabama guys are basically the cast of "Clerks" (1994) - Jay and the skinny Silent Bob + Randal behind them. And Rob is like Dante - putting sense in everything. We need a battle between these guys and the Thunderstruck guys. Who will request more creative performance by Rob.

Guy was right. Firefly has a lot of great pieces for the violin across the board. Greg Edmonson has done an outstanding job writing music that really creates and/or amplifies the mood whether it's for television or video games. He's a little underrated in my opinion.
