  • Beverly Hills 90210 actress Jennie Garth didn't know a past jet-skiing accident had damaged her brain, but a SPECT scan at Amen Clinics showed the result of the damage. Except that he only wants to help the wealthy or upper middle class. He won't take health insurance. As a retired first responder, I have Excellent, top of the line health insurance, even my (& health insurance in general) won't pay for hyperbaric chamber for head injury. This man is so out of touch with middle America, I can't keep a straight face when he speaks!

      There is a misconception that insurance coverage is required to validate a treatment. Insurance is a business! You have pay enough for your insurance cover some treatments.

      No misconception here. I am in the para-medical field, know plenty of folks in the business and my brother is a physician (that accepts insurance BTW). You may have misinterpreted (or I didn't make clear) my point. You are 100% correct, insurance IS a business! And a very profitable one at that. I understand all too well that insurance companies are businesses first. I have read enough studies on my own that I am a believer in hyperbaric's efficacy for TBI. I wasn't speaking to whether I needed it "validated by them". I ONLY care if they PAY for it. They won't validate it, not because it isn't worthy of validation, but simply so they *don't have to pay for it*. I wasn't saying it is not worthwhile; but quite the opposite. I am sad/angry/disappointed that they won't cover something that I believe would truly help me.

      I just sent the paperwork into my health care provider (I called them first before I went thru the treatment and made sure they would cover it). It's not that big of a deal. Took me 20 min to do the paperwork myself. Maybe not the hyperbaric chamber though because there are some other things my in insurance will not cover, like nuerofeedback. If you cant submit the paperwork to your insurance and get to reimburse, it's your insurance not Amen clinics.

      @@everythingwillberevealed3215 My insurance only covered 50% of my out of pocket expenses because Amen does NOT take insurance. Normally they cover 80%. However, they cover 80% of the "allowed amount". His prices were so much higher than the allowed amount (i.e. normal price) that I ended up paying over $2000 out of pocket, when my normal co-pay is $10. $2000 v.s. $10 ??? "Not a big deal" for YOU maybe. And that was simply for the diagnosis and spect scans! That didn't even include any treatment. $2000 just to get diagnosed. Your average American household can't afford his treatment. You totally
      PROVED MY POINT! He is so out of touch with middle America. Fortunately for treatment, I was able to find a Harvard educated doctor that took my insurance for ongoing treatment. I could plop down $10 per visit and be done with it. Insurance covers ZERO/NADA for hyperbaric for TBI. Again, not because it isn't effacious, but because they can get away with not paying because (technically) it hasn't been "approved" by the FDA for treatment of head injuries.
      You obviously are also out of touch with middle America

      @@everythingwillberevealed3215 It is INDEED the Amen Clinic. My brother is a physician and I went to nursing school. Believe me, I know what I am talking about. Most people aren't lucky enough to have out of network benefits like you and I do; thus they would have to foot 100% of the bill. If he accepted insurance, I would have had to pay $10 a visit like I do with ALL MY OTHER doctors.

    If using spect scans for diagnosis is so obvious, Why isn’t every neurologist using it? They happily use MRI’s so what gives? Why is Amen so controversial? I bring it up to my neurologist (because there no way I can afford to go to Amen clinics) and they basically laugh at me.

    • @fe2l
      @fe2l 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      from what I understand SPECT scans show brain function as opposed to an MRI scan which show brain structure , neurologist main focus is not mental health problems but rather more evident brain problems like strokes, Alzheimer, loss of nerves, seizures, among others which are very evident in an MRI. Neurologist don't treat anxiety problems, panic attacks, bipolar disorders, etc so if you suffer from those an MRI is not going to help you at all unless you have a severe brain injury which they can relate to the onset of your anxiety symptoms

    • @chris-dempsey
      @chris-dempsey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fe2l Spect scans detect blood flow... I'm pretty sure thats it. It seems like he oversimplifies the correlation between that and specific brain problems. And it seems like the vast majority of his peers feel that way. Neurologists would be pretty interested in that I would think, no? And for that matter... other psychiatrists and mental health professionals. I agree the brain should be treated as the cause for psychological problems as well as TBI's. I may be too cynical and I really WANT to trust him. But I find it pretty hard when his treatments aren't considered valid by the majority of professionals in his fields... and he's getting FILTHY rich off of people, by the way.

    • @fe2l
      @fe2l 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@chris-dempsey he's able to know what type of anxiety disorder you have by looking at the blood flow in your brain and honestly I believe him, I think it can help a lot to just have a look and see before and after treatment how that blood flow looks like and based on that know if a particular treatment is working and validate that with the patient symptoms. I feel like psychiatry is still in its infancy and recovery/remission rates are very low so any help we can get (like SPECT scans) is great, it sucks that he charges so much, and yes I agree is controversial and maybe an illusion but in my opinion is by far the most logical approach in treating mental health problems, looking at the brain should be crucial so hopefully newer better cheaper imaging technologies come soon.
