First of all 58 years old. I have been riding for a long time. Started on 2 strokes because you learn how to ride with them. Brought my boys on 2 strokes. We have moved on to 4 strokes. In saying that. I have rode a 99 YZ400f (hot cam) for 12 years afterwards and 3 not so much later.. Very fast bike. Getting older I wanted an Estart and something a little toned down. Sold that bike. These 3 bikes is what I wanted. Lucky for me my son is a salesman so I was able to discuss all 3. My first pick was the DRZ400. Very good bike. I wanted to tail ride and just take it easy. On the other hand the KLX300r is reasonably price brand new. I went to ride all 2 of 3 (KLX excluded). I rode the DRZ. I like it. Very comfortable seat and reasonable power. All gauge display I liked and a very durable bike. I then rode the WR450f. I felt this had the power and was scaled down from my prior bike and felt I am still capable to run up hills within reason. I think all are great options. I didnt ride the KLX because I picked the 2018 WR450F which is going to be faster then the others.. On the fatter side now and this drags me up the hill cuz when you come to hill, you climb it.. And a good trail bike if you want to putt around. I am very happy with my choice.
I'm the same age. I've got a beta 200. And a 350 rr 23 module On a bike since I was ten year old i've Had the pleasure of all in most Motorcycles on and off road I'm still doing pretty hard in enduo dr z four stroke unbeastable
"It's a tough job but somebody's got to do it ! " thanks Man , great video , I'm hoping this is what dirt bike heaven will look like , I'm 75 and the KLX works just fine for me...
Value: KLX. Where I live brand new out the door 2023 leftover's are $4800. For reliability and aftermarket parts: DRZ. All around superb bike. For more serious woods riding, WR450F.
There's a best of all worlds missing from this comparison and that is the KLX450R. It has larger oil capacity than the WR and the simplicity of the DRZ. Even in 2024 it has been left unchanged. No EFI TCS, ABS. If you ever wanted a DRZ with more power and about 20kg lighter this is the machine for you.
Looks like the DRZ400E, pulls a bit harder high rpm and is 35lbs lighter than the S. I just cleaned up and sold a mint one, probably should have kept it but wasnt street legal in WI. I have an S now, and its not real fun riding tight woods but a blast everywhere else. All the KLX I had always handled great in the woods, even my KDX had the same chassis just different suspension
For chill trail riding in the woods the KLX feels right at home, my only gripes are the soft suspension and slow power delivery down low when you want to really get after it. Out in the open the WR450 and DRZ are more fun because of the extra grunt but the WR felt more dialed than the DRZ in the woods. The WR has been a pretty reliable bike for my sister, it's only needed a battery and carb rebuild so far.
@@andy3d1 The WR is definitely the most capable as far as speed and jumps go, but if you want a chill, easy to ride bike with plush suspension to cruise around on the KLX takes the cake. The DRZ was a little jerky down low (carb needs some tuning) and felt the heaviest but it is still a lot of fun out in the open.
Thanks, that was helpful. I shall reject the new bike jitters and keep rockin the DRZ. I will say the Kawi looks intriguing. Nice to have property…who cuts the grass?
The DRZ is a nice bike, I would ride it more but it's my dad's and I want to keep it in good shape for him. The grass is a job and a half in the summer, I help my dad cut it when I'm not working. We use a Scag Tiger Cat with a 61" deck, it gets the job done pretty fast 👍
At 70 years old I still believe the WR450 is the best do it all bike . Great power, fantastic suspension and very reliable.

Isn't the drz400s street legal?
Which bike you liked most? How reliable wr450 is compared to other two bikes?
