It did matter that Cassel was not a good QB, Belichick can't make a man better than he is. But Belichick can use every once of his skill. He and his staff will formulate a plan that will play to that QB's skill set, and so give him the ability to be as good as he can be. They will coach him up, teach him how to be a good QB.
New England is the BEST place for a new Player to go for his first years in the NFL. They will learn how to be a Professional Player there.

Sorry Patriot fans but as great as Tom Brady and Belicheck are they will never escape the cheating scandals. It will always hover over them forever whether you want to deny it or not. I think casual fans and NFL fans of different teams want a change at the top that's why we are tired of the Pats. Its the same reason people are tired of the GS and CLE finals in the NBA. We like seeing underdogs and new faces at the top. Its not that anyone is jealous the Pats could win 10 super bowls and I wouldn't care but its also about seeing a competitive game and if the same team wins every year it just shows a lack of competition.
