- The new 911 GT3 RS is an unbelievable achievement. In just ten years, Porsche has shaved eight seconds off the Nurburgring lap time set by the 918 Spyder Hypercar, in a 911 with just over half the power and two less driven wheels. Using every aerodynamic, chassis, and lightweighting trick they can conjure, Porsche has built one of the most unbelievable track-focused roadgoing Porsche's of all time - but it comes at a cost. Is it worth what will end up being $300,000+ for a GT3 RS versus a pure trackday racing car? Is it really what you want for a car mostly driven on the street? Matt hits the track at the Thermal Club to find out!
Porsche provided the vehicle, track time, b-roll, a photo, and lunch for this review.
Shout out to Tangent Vector for the high-quality on-track shots and beautiful b-roll.

I'm really enjoying the extra production value in these videos. It's been amazing to watch this cannel evolve
Lol, evolve back in time to the things Matt and Zack are already really good at
This is how all their videos used to be back in the day, before they decided to shift to One Takes. Glad to see it come back, even if it's an occasional thing.
Actually, it's pronounced cannel.
It’s pronounced thermometer
100%. Back to the old smoking tire that was the best show ever! Matt storytelling as voice over is soooo good!
Felt like I was watching an auto documentary on TV. This production quality is insane, props to y’all for doing what everyone else can’t. 10x more entertaining than a car review filmed on an iPhone
@One Issue Voter You and your short attention span should spend more time on Tiktok because this video is art
Did they shoot the driving shots or is that just B-roll provided by Porsche?
You know he shoots everything on iPhones yeah
@@dill6078 completely untrue.
@@TheBucketOfTruth For this video, I would say 80% of the car shots were provided by Porsche. The remaining detail shots, along with a few drivebys and the shots of Thermal/garages/pits were shot on iPhone by Matt. - Zack
Just started watching and the time and effort you and Zak spent on this video is very much appreciated!
Love the addition of cinematic shots, I know it’s not really a great ROI but I think it adds a little something to the overall vibe of the video
Those were supplied in Porsche's b-roll package and shot by the good folks at Tangent Vector.
Man, you guys are really turning up the quality on these. I appreciate the thought and time put into these productions now (heard your recent podcast about it). I thank you sirs!
This was absolutely worth the wait, thank you for your hard work Matt! As you mentioned on the podcast, it must have been really challenging to record all of this on your own.
Guys, this is your best video to date. This kind of format and production quality Is going to without a doubt bring this channel back to life.
Nice work matt. I think it goes without saying again but this is a great video. Thanks a bunch to you and Zach for the continued hard work in bringing us the badass content we've been getting!
This is Matt’s best video to date. Well produced and well thought out. Great job habibi.
Great video. Also makes me feel good about not having one. Based on this review, I’ll gladly keep the usability of my turbo. For all of the 2 track days a year, that I do with it.
How does he even fit in one of those? Those type of cars are meant for dudes built like a bean-pole, meaning a woman’s dress size 4.
Everything about this is what I want. I would also love a roof mounted pov when matt is narrating his driving, “lean off the brakes, little bit of push” and it goes back to b roll that’s not related! I wanna see what the car is doing live when he’s pushin it while talking
The comment about the owners conversations about settings had me rolling Matt, and you know you are 100% accurate with your take on it.
Hats off to Porsche! The lead/follow with factory talent in a GT3 vs journo in the RS is perfect. Looked like another great day for Matt!
Porsche has the worlds greatest engineers, without question.
Love how much more production value these videos have. This and the 911 Dakar are easily the best videos you have released.
For the record, W. Earl Brown played Warren in Something About Mary.
I love all these "the 911 that isn't for me" videos
Ya I was about to get one too but but decided the GT3RS just wasn’t for me and went for a Nissan Altima instead
I AGREE IM TIRED OF PORSCHE everywhere i look its Porsche Porsche Porsche not to mention Porsche was personally cool with HITLER and i def dont support thats friendship 😎
@@SenszR Just please don't become an Altima driver.

@@johnnygreen5642 let it go you weren't even there... Matt is a Jew, and he has and had bmws and Porsche, if he can let go so can you. And you can't go through life like that.... Every big company does some nasty stuff..... Coca cola, ford , chase bank, BMW, VW, designer brands, etc all helped the ww2 German effort. Do you still buy chocolate or eat Snickers? All chocolate on the market is from African child labor, besides diamonds and lithium ion.... There's more important things to worry about.
Lastly Porsche is most race successful brand in motorsports and has perfected the drivers car formula..... There's a reason why they are so hyped........
I didn’t think after the last gen gt3 RS I’d ever love a car more in my lifetime.
Simple but aggressive looking. One of the best engine platforms. Aggressive aero without being over the top, even being a car that could pull off aggressive aero unlike (cough cough 2018 type r) an absolute beauty of an interior that wasn’t too over the top with techs, buttons, iPads in the dash, over complicated seats to look sporty and comfortable but simple and extremely comfortable and light. The optional rear cage paint matched. The list can go on
But seeing the new gt3RS completely changed my mind. The new straight edge body line following the front fender, the new hood and winglets going off either side is still growing on me. But learning their function and how much thought and how well they divert heated air from the radiator more towards the outer zones of the car keeping cooler air to flow into the cooling pockets is a genius interesting thing to do.
I would take one of these over anything out there (if I had to daily, and not get a car 15x as much just to sell and buy other cars) this would be my all day everyday car. With how friendly Porsche is to modifications, ecm and gearbox tuning, I can’t think of anything else in that price range that beats the gt3RS.
And for those HP junkies saying but it only has a little over 500hp.. in a car with such aero, weight and distribution of that weight. It’ll absolutely be able to hang with cars with 700-850 hp
I skipped over this video at least 5 times in my timeline since in the past, I found them not worth my while, I'm not purchasing one. Then I remembered you started to put more effort into these like you did in the past and yes, clicked, watched and enjoyed even if there was no customer advice for me here, it was worth my time. I'm glad you returned to this type of videos. Been watching since I saw mat on fld. Cheers
Kudos to Matt for making a video like this. My friends and I are all established professionals in our fields and can afford nicer cars for track and street, but now that we're older, all those considerations he's mentioning about streetability most definitely factor in. The "hardest" any of us has been able to get with weekend/track cars is a pair of Camaro SS 1LE's, an FD RX-7 with an LS1 swap (that hasn't run in years but is "close" to running lol) and my 718 Cayman S with S-PASM adjustable suspension. And all of us have other cars for daily drivers because even Camaros and Caymans aren't particularly practical enough for daily use.
Today Mat reviews a Porsche to secretly show us how the elites will continue to enjoy real cars when the rest of the common people have been forced to use electric cars that we don’t want.
There are other sports cars.....
@@EvoraGT430 not sure of the point you are making, I have no problem with the Porsche or even the Porsche owners. It’s that we as car people are going to the forced into a choice, for those with the means to belong to something like the thermal club where we can store our real cars and pay the exorbitant prices for carbon neutral e fuel it will be fine but for the rest of us who can not or prefer to tour rather than track drive our hobby will become something only rich elites can afford. All in the name of some BS environmental argument that electric cars are kinder to the environment, which in total they are not.
Phenomenal work Matt and Zach. I assumed you'd feel this way about the car based on your previous discussions of the new GT3. I'm glad to hear it's a riot on the track and for the few fortunate enough get them, they won't be disappointed in its track day abilities. For me, the dream continues to be a 997.2 GT3 or GTS.
Good taste mate ! I had a 997.2 RS , and what a RIOT those cars are !
But i binned it in the most proper way , at 228 kph on the nurburgring 😪😅 to be honest , yes it has a numberplate , but it's anything but a joy to drive in the city , like 90% of owners do. I had some fellow 997 rs owner who complained about the stifness and mechanical noises in slow traffic , thats how you know you are talking to people who want an RS just for bragging rights.
Offcourse if you buy a track-oriented Porsche semi racecar, you'll have some downsides outside of trackdriving..
We now have a 718 spyder , and saving up for my dreamcar , the 996 gt2 ...
Keep pushing on and you'll get that car when it's your time ! 👌
@@HouseOfPetrol that’s terrible man, but I’m glad you’re ok and still loving the brand. I have an M3 now that I love. But I miss the lightweight, flickable natured, naturally aspirated howl of my old C2S. It wasn’t the fastest… actually slow by today’s standards, but it was always a joy to drive. I imagine the aforementioned GTS and GT3 will be more concentrated versions in that manner. Good luck on your search for your GT3.
Thanks for the effort Matt!
I hope that in the long term this new format becomes Justifiable for you and and Zack from a views and ROI perspective, but wanted to echo the prevailing sentiment that the new format is great! Thanks to you both for more than a decade of quality content
Great video. I love the in car shots of you driving while talking in a down to earth way about what you're experiencing. It's also refreshing to hear someone capable of speaking without using foul language every other word.
I'm glad the channel is going back to "produced" videos. I remember the early days when it was Garage 419 and the "Planes Trains and Automobiles" video. I remember the R8 V10 video with the then-unknown Johnny Lieberman. Who could forget the Aventador vs Countach video with literally THE best ending of any car review on the internet? The one-takes were good, and I get that things have to roll with the algorithm. But I'm glad the algorithm is steering you back towards this type of video. You guys are so good at them.
Absolutely wonderful video. I love your opinions on cars. You go above just simply explaining the specs or lap times of a new vehicle, which I can see on a number of other channels.
Very well done review. Matt always does a great job of adding REAL WORLD analysis to these cars.
The way that changes direction is noticable on video. Not very often you see that from a car on track.
As said elsewhere, really enjoying the last couple of vids and the added production.
Also, I think there's enough people that would enjoy a "smoking tire: watches and listening" episode. 😉
Don't forget, the people that are allocated these already have multiple Porche's.

Whats crazy is I feel like it needs that spring rate. The 991.1 on the track took proveribially forever to switch direction and loading in the corners. By the way this format video is so good. Keep them coming.
It's almost amusing how you nerds always manage to infuse every conversation with your pseudo-intellectual drivel. Your attempt at discussing spring rates and track handling comes across as nothing more than a feeble attempt to sound relevant in a world where your expertise barely registers. The 991.1's behavior on the track isn't something you can comprehend from your basement-dwelling, keyboard-clacking perspective. And don't even get me started on your insincere praise for the video format - it's as if you're desperately trying to fit in with the real enthusiasts while remaining firmly rooted in your nerdy delusions. Keep those uninformed, nerdy comments coming, if only to remind us how far removed you are from actually grasping anything beyond your digital realm. I can understand that you're trying to share our thoughts on spring rates and the handling of the 991 on the track, but honestly, your comment comes across as a mix of misplaced arrogance and ignorance. It's almost impressive how you managed to string together some car-related jargon without actually saying anything remotely intelligent. And your attempt at giving a backhanded compliment about the video format? Well, let's just say your ability to grasp quality content is as lacking as your understanding of basic automotive dynamics. Maybe instead of pretending to be knowledgeable, you should spend some time actually learning about the subject matter before pretending to be an expert. But hey, keep those uninformed opinions coming - it's entertaining for the rest of us who actually know what we're talking about.
Love watching these higher quality videos mixed with Matt’s honesty and experience this is so refreshing to watch compared to other car YT reviewers.
As always your commentary makes the most sense.
No complacency like the other channels.
Thank you for being real !
What a great film on this car… loved it! I appreciate the extra effort you guys noticeably put into this video.
I'm liking this new format. It's refreshing to see car reviews like old Top Gear, I hope it's successful in the algorithm.
The RS has become a pure track toy now and for a lucky few that is fine as it's probably a 3rd or 4th car in a garage. Not that I could afford it anyway, but the prior generations were in that sweet spot for me between road and race. Loving the new format TST!
Both of you are talking nonsense. Just buy an GT3 then. Or figure out how to travel with less. Porsche doesn’t care;)
An ariel atom or a caterham are track toys, this is just a 911 that doesn't work on the street and is too compromised for the track
@@XavierGoncalves89 Lol, how do you even comment stuff like this without ever seeing one in person, let alone sit in one? "too compromised for the track" lol, the Nürburgring destroyer that beats cars with twice the HP is too compromised
I agree. If I had the money to buy something from the RS range, I'd probably go for the 997 GT3 RS, ideally the 4.0.
I suppose this is the last hurray until the 911 plattform enters the sad, miserable and boring age of EV Electro junk.
I’m loving the quality on these recent videos! Thanks Matt and Zack!
Need more of these high production videos. The one takes have their place with boring cars, but this format is what I originally fell in love with on TST. Like the old Drive days
I can adjust the high and low speed compression and rebound on my shocks individually, but I have to manually get to the physical screws and nobs on the shocks themselves on my car
but I can most definately change things up so bad that the car becomes a death trap. but I took it to the track and pushed it on the factory recommended settings, changed some things to make it both slightly more comfortable and slightly less understeery (fwd) and I think I hit a sweet spot. it isn't that far away from the factory settings and this is how it will stay because 99.9& of my driving is on the road.
Thank you for this nice review (as usual) 👍👍👍
As a former Porsche enthusiast, I can't agree more with your analysis than this on the 992 GT3 RS. For someone wanting to buy an RS for exclusivity and looks, the 991.2 GT3 RS was the ultimate "road-ready car" and finally really usable in canyons, mountain passes etc... In bonus with your spouse and his light luggage.. now no way !!
This is brilliant. Matt you've always been a good journalist, but sometimes we forget what you're capable because one takes don't have a proper script. When you write, you really paint a picture, and I love that you take a pragmatic approach to it that others either don't realize or are too afraid to talk about. Well done.
I defiantly prefer these style of video over the one take. Good job Matt and Zach
I miss the old manual’s GT3 RS and GT2 RS i wish this car came in a manual it be way funner to drive 😟
I started watching your channel back when you were doing /TUNED for Drive and it was some of the best auto content out there. The return to that form is really enjoying to watch.
Bravo. Love the production value and the narration. Looking forward to more of this style of video from TST
Matt, Zack - this is awesome. I'm loving the increased production value. Definitely worth the Patreon sub, which is exactly where I'm headed now
I really hope these videos get more traction. You guys are insanely good at what you do and it shows here. Give these people production money.
I drive a 992.1 GT3 RS *non weissach*. I sold my ‘13 911 997.2 Manual to replace it w/ this. ITS A MONSTER. Revs out to 9,000 RPM W/ 7 GEARS. It NEVER wants to STOP accelerating. Foot to floor going, I am already at ~145MPH when I’m leaving 4th gear into 5th gear, with all of 5th, 6th, and 7th to GO. It’s my Daily. FOR NOW. 4.0L Flat-6 and it sounds insane. I’m not a 50 Y/O man, I’m 26 and my RS was built for ME.
The production on this is sublime! Great work, Matt and Zack!!
Can you make the regular GT3 softer in the settings? I’m not a fan of all the aero, it’s a bit much for a car I’d be street driving.
Superb video. It’s all there. Production values, soundtrack, Matt’s narration and driving impressions. Congrats to the team!
More track special than road car. Still want one.
Really hope the storytelling and production effort pays off, as I have really enjoyed it.
When Matt finds a format that works, it really works! Keep it up. The mix of cinematic candy, yet efficient filming otherwise creates a pleasant viewing experience and hopefully a more efficient production method.
I don’t want one either, I’d rather buy a normal gt3 and there’s a manual option.
And preferably a 991.2! Great as this RS may be not a 992 fan & never will be.
Great video Matt. Thank you for the extra effort from both you and Zack.
That yellow RS is my dream spec !
This new format is FIRE!! Thank you for the effort. It's appreciated
I know everyone’s been saying this, but loving the new format, TST!!!!
I know the smoking tire is in no way a driving class channel, but I think it would be cool to have in car cameras in both cars in a video like this to really show the differences in controls between a pro level driver and Matt.
love the higher production qualilty. more of this please!
Keep it up Matt and Zack! I really, really appreciate the recent focus on production! STORY BUILDING FOR THE WIN!
11:40 "it goes to 9"... OK, what goes to 9? Driving difficulty? Excitement? Because, it can't be the RPM... You know, because 9 RPM is extremely slow... LMFFFAAAOOO 🤦♂️
Production value really stepping it up a notch recently. Bravo gents. Keep it coming
Loving the new formats... bravo guys! But also... I'm still nerding out over that carbon fiber roll bar!
Holy cow this new video format is *WONDERFUL*
Can we get a "just the noise" video from this?
Just came back to the channel, and I love what you're doing lately! Looking forward to more.
Great commercial for P cars. As a guy who loves everything from Weissach, I can say this, every generation of GT3/GT3 RS is described as “greatest track car ever” until the next gen. The RS is a fantastic car, but for what it costs and difficulty in getting an allocation, it better be. For reference, Camaro ZL1 1LE 7:16 ring time, Viper ACR 7:01. On cars with 2-4 generation older compound tires and a manual gearbox. So 6:49 on the Ring is not that jaw dropping for this car.
8:47 Que the dramatic Lord of the Rings music. Haha. The extra time writing and editing this video shows and hope it pays off for you guys. Great video!
Just listened to the last crew show this morning and was happy to see this video later in the same morning. I'm loving the new/old style. Keep it going!
Speaking as casual member of several porsche forums, I 100% agree with Matt's point on annoying/pretentious conversation about fine-tune parameters that's waiting to happen.
Great video Matt, the new GT3RS is a masterpiece 🔥🏁
At 12:48 I thought the car was making that tapping noise 😂😂😂
For real, I thought he broke it lol!
These type of videos are what convinced me to buy my e92 m3, I know you guys aren’t new to this. Sucks that it hasn’t been profitable , but these types of videos are my favorite, and I think the fans agree .
Not quite sure Porsche made the GT3RS for Canyon runs but hey it’s your production (and a bloody good one at that!).
No boot at the expense of downforce/aero is a compromise I’d be more than willing to accept not that I could ever afford one.
If I could, I’d pay overs for it to get into one 100% !
Keep up the great work, it’s a pleasure to watch what you guys present. 👍
Listening through headphones, the sound production is really good. Dunno if you guys did the on-circuit tracking shots, but the curb hopping is very cool to watch.
You said you worked really hard on this video... Yes. Well done Matt, thank you for going the extra mile.
i can see exactly where the production and editing effort went in compared to the traditional tst track one take, i usually wouldn’t watch the track one takes but this one is taking a turn i enjoyed every minute and the extra effort!!
New video format is awesome, great job guys
This car will be beyond all but a literal handful of incredible track day drivers, and pro racers.
Glad to see you back in this sort of format, Im really liking it! I have been a subscriber and viewer of this channel for a long time now, since before the one take videos started. Originally watched you on the Drive channel. Great job and look forward to more content like this!!
I really enjoyed this too. I was going to scoff at Zak's declaration of being a behind-the-scenes "genius" in the Blipshift/TST blurb(just for fun). However, the production value of these videos is pretty damn good. Absolutely loving the track experience!
I whole heartedly agree with your assessment of these kinds of amazingly fast cars. Thank you! Great video! Keep them coming!
Been watching a handful of videos and just finally subscribed. I feel your passion for this Matt. What a job you've created for yourself
It’s one of the baddest cars ever created ! Don’t let this tool fool you! If he could get one & afford it he would…!!! I mean all Porsche 911 GT cars are serious track monsters ! Maybe only a tenth of people that own the 991.2 GT2RS can drive the car to its potential & that goes for all the crazy super cars out there! To own one is the ULTIMATE for a true car guy….💪🏻💯🔥🏁
I think Porsche wants every generation to be faster on the racetrack and that's just at the expense of street comfort
Gotta beat the GTR.
@@EvoraGT430 Which gtr?

I'd never have thought to comment on a rollbar/half cage but that roll bar in the back is incredible. It looks like it's a bulkhead on some sci-fi spaceship.
Really loving the highly cinematic nature of these new videos. I know from the podcast, that they dont make money, but maybe there is a way to lower costs a bit, maybe increase filming/writing effiency ( if possible) and only doing a cinematic video every "x" amount of videos that DO make money. Really really love this content.
