    Been watching almost all your videos for the last few months since I got back into collecting comics. You have inspired me about golden age books. I can definitely see the value and rarity for these comics. Thank you so much for all your awesome videos. I have lots of interest in silver age key books and golden age horror books because you have inspired me with all your knowledge, collection, and haul videos. Keep it up! Thank you!

    Loved the golden age books. Nice LB Cole covers and the Frazetta Famous Funnies books. His work is simply ahead of its time.

    Ryan, I believe you would have a blast if you got the first negative grade in CGC history! 😂😂😂

    Great video and great books!! All those books, regardless of grade deserve to be slabbed/preserved! That GA 4.0 is freaking sweet!! Keep the cool vids coming!

    I love all those Don Heck "head" covers he did for the Horrific series.

    Congrats on the horrific! 4.0! And I've never seen so much joy and enthusiasm describing a 0.5 "It looks like it's been through a fire, no back cover, and even brittle page. Wow!" you should sell cars...;)

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s like when a book gets to a certain point, the worse it is the better. That book was never gonna be more than a 0.5. So it might as well own the grade lol.

    My favourite video of yours so far, Ryan. Laughed my ass off with that Avengers 4. Love your Suspense run. Are you going to slab your no4? .5s and 1s are basically all I can afford when it comes to these great GA books, so this video was right down my alley. Love your Frazetta Buck Rogers run too. There's one cover that ended up on EC's Weird Fantasy. No 29 I think.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I’ve considered getting the issue 4 slabbed but I don’t know if I want to or not. But yes, Weird Science Fantasy 29 is considered the other cover from that Famous Funnies run.

    Fun stuff. I have a Marvel Spotlight #6 that looks a lot like your Avengers 4. I thought about slabbing it for fun too.

    I enjoy your golden age unboxings. Getting to see a lot of titles that I would otherwise maybe never see. In my opinion with all of those rare golden age books, the cover is way more important than being complete. Once a book is slabbed all that you see is the cover, so the centerfold is ignored anyway.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, especially for rare golden age books, I’m happy to find low grade/incomplete copies. Sometimes that’s all that’s available.

  • @Kanzer67

    Great video - really like seeing the golden age stuff and I get a big kick out of how much joy you get from books that look like they've been through hell and back (and stopped at a mud pit along the way). I just sent out my very first CGC submission as well as my first cleaning and pressing. Hoping to get the turn around you did.

    Very Nice...Horrific is cool. I personally think what makes PCH/Sci Fi books so so damn nice even in low grades is SUPERIOR cover colors/color artist work

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. That’s what’s great about that suspense 5. A 1.0 sold recently that looks like garbage in comparison. The cover is still bright and only some chips on the spine.

    Not getting books graded at all seems like the best idea if the grading companies take their customers for granted with shoddy packaging.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol. No, they’ll be up for sale eventually. I wasn’t actively going after these low grade copies. But they’re still important books regardless of condition.

    Another great video man. Congrats! I wanted to know, of you could please answer me, why does one book with the centerfold missing gets a green label with the respective grading and another one gets a blue label .5? Thanks man, keep up the awesome videos.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends what the grade would be if the centerfold was present. The general rule of thumb they seem to use is if the book would grade 2 full grades above if the centerfold is present they will give it the green label. Otherwise they give it the blue label.
      Like if that Suspense 5 looked like a 6.0, it would get a green label as a 6.0 with the notation that it’s missing the centerfold. But since even if the centerfold was there it would get like a 1-1.5, they just give it the blue label.

      I used to grade my comics with a real grade but if it was much better than that grade in appearance I would also give it an Apperance grade. Maybe like Gd/VF. That way, if I had a Gd (and it looked it) I would be able to think about replacing with a better appearing Gd (that looked Fn).

  • @drspidey4739

    Fun to see those poor 0.5's. Even if you tried to destroy a comic you could not get those books to look so bad. Just checked and those books still worth quite a bit in 0.5. Avengers #4 $650 and #1 $1750. Sweet

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big keys have a lot of value regardless of condition. Just existing is enough. That’s why I’m happy to pick up books like this that maybe others would overlook =).
      I always refer to it as their “baseline value”. Even in terrible condition, they’ll always be worth at least “this much”

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like I saw just the worst copy of amazing fantasy 15 I’ve ever seen sell for like $12,000. That book is an extreme example, but it shows that if the book is in enough demand, it doesn’t matter what condition it’s in, they’ll always be someone that wants it.
