    Feb 4, 2020: I dedicate this episode to my mother, Mary Louise Trambley. She learned to play both the piano and accordion as a young woman, since her entire family played at least one instrument. She developed her artistic talents following her retirement as a Mountain Bell telephone operator. Classes at the senior center helped her discover her ability to create beautiful oil and acrylic paintings. Absolutely stunning! *In Christ, we have redemption through His Blood; the forgiveness of sin thru the riches of God’s grace. Ephesians 1:7

    This has to be one of the most beautifully Written and Beautifully Played Episodes of "RHODA" ever recorded, it was very moving, thank you "mtmepisodes2" Channel for posting "RHODA" here for us to come back to Time-After-Time. And for this particular emotionally affecting episode. Has anyone other than me, recognized the fact that the Series "RHODA" tends to have a Laugh or a Smile inducing moment, or that there is some kind of an Emotional Effect on us? There is at least 25 such reactions Per-Episode, check for yourself, and see if you do not agree with this observation, including "Carlton" the Door-Man !!!

    I love watching all the episodes of Rhoda even the ones that were not that great or well written. I think it was the 1970s look that makes it so appealing to me. And the fact that the attractive wonderful Valerie Harper is in it too. It was a shame they wrote the character of Joe out of the series. He wasn't that bad for Rhoda.

      Warp Prime 42 I was born after this show was cancelled but was hooked after watching the first episode. I think it's very well written and I also love seeing all the 70's fashion, from the clothes to the furniture! I have to respectfully disagree about Joe. I think he was a jerk to Rhoda about 75 % of the time. He just seems so self centered to me.

Almost literally everything Rhoda has gone through/is going through in her relationship with Joe, I’ve gone through, including the destructive and painful end. I’m wracked with insecurities. I want to fix everything and make everything better. The character they wrote for Rhoda is completely timeless.

    Beverly Sanders (later Newmark) was a friend of Mary Tyler Moore's. She taught acting at UCLA for a long time, later in life. Her appearances as Susan Alborn - the pushover - were always enjoyable. I think she must've gotten busy with other things and that's when they sorta replaced her with Annie Meara as Sally Gallagher.

    • @kidmack3556
      @kidmack3556 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a tuxedo not a suit...
      The blue shirt with ruffles down the front and at the cuffs is what you are repulsed by, and perhaps the large ready made bowtie, in other words; the accessories not the tuxedo.
      That tux is classically cut, and it fits his physique and 20th century classically tailored men's clothing has never gone out of style.

    If Joe weren't such a hard-ass, if he had a scintilla of graciousness about him, he would put his guests' enjoyment first, forget his stupid grudge and smile and laugh and make people feel welcome, brighten up the atmosphere and be the life of the party.
    Joe's in the right business: destruction. He doesn't build up; he knocks down with his negativity.
    Does anyone else notice that this episode is a repeat of an oft-used theme in the MTM shows? 'Mary gives boring parties.'

    • @jamessandy5873
      @jamessandy5873 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Figaro Hey!: The Joe character was 1) horribly written and 2) played by a strange-looking actor with zero charisma. "Will and Grace" borrowed the bad parties thing from MTM (Grace gives bad parties like Mary) and also the thing where Karen's husband Stan is never shown (like Phyllis's husband Lars).

    I can’t help but notice how risqué that white top is that Rhoda’s wearing. Is it me? This is from 50 years ago and it looks like she could fall out of that blouse. And she wouldn’t be able to lean down to do anything without the top flipping inside out. I’m not usually prudish about clothes, I’m an old hippie myself, but I saw this episode before and wanted to comment. I love this series tho. Truly takes me back to the days.

      @@judisutherland6750 Yes, you can briefly see a bra back strap underneath. I’m still surprised tho. I had to watch this scene again just now to see if I still felt the same! I think I recall even wearing a top like this back in the day, but longer. That fabric is very reminiscent of all the made in India tops we used to wear. Wish this kind of trivia could be our only concerns in this day and age! Thanks for responding!

    Susan Alborn did not have to "have a baby a year." Many forms of birth control were available, even back in the mid-1970's, when this episode first came out. No spousal permission would have been required.

    Justin's wife, Denise, was played by Denise Nicholas, who played the very nice high school guidance councillor, Liz, on the wonderful show, Room 222. She was dating Pete Dixon, the handsome history teacher. I was in public school when this great show was on. The nine-year-old me thought that the high school students were so grown up and sophisticated. The girls carried purses, for goodness sakes. Boy, was it a different story when I got to high school. None of us seemed grown up, or mature. That was okay, though, because my friends and I had a lot of fun in those four years. Got good grades, too.

    I sometimes think the folks in the comment section are too hard on Joe , at least during seasons 1 and 2. While I hated coldly he left Rhoda at the start of season 3,prior to that, I thought he wasn't all that bad. They had problems, but they mostly seemed to love and care about one another. However, in this episode, I think he was being a real jerk. I know he could be uptight, but he didn't seem as though he'd care that much about a party or what type of food was served. As a matter of fact, I would think that Rhoda would be the one who'd want to serve fancy food and get all neurotic about being the perfect hostess, while Joe seemed like he would be fine with a casual get together and pizza. Yet here,he was all mad because she wasn't throwing a classy enough party? It's like he was just looking for any excuse to pick a fight with Rhoda.

    Joe was cute, but he was often gruff and uptight.He would've faired better with Brenda, though, because she was more the type to be dominated.I always liked Suzy, the often pregnant woman.Joe's personality reminds me of Mary Ellen Walton's husband, the doctor, on The Waltons.Rhoda was always super sensitive concerning herself.The husband of Suzy, he played on Love American Style a lot, and was Angel on Rockford Files.I liked Denise and her husband, they seemed really pleasant.
