Turning A Washer from the Hardware Store into a Necklace - Step by Step Tutorial using Alcohol Inks

- Welcome! This if Fast Forward Friday Night #FFFN and this is of my appearance on the Dec 1st episode of Artapalooza on Tish Winters channel The Artist's Haven and I'll have links to both video and channel just below here in LINKS.
So what I'm doing here is just taking an old Washer from Ace Hardware Store and applying Alcohol Inks. After it dries you can then spray it with Krylon Kamar sealer and I usually wait at least a day before adding leather and hardware. Me being a newbie to the alcohol inks , your tutorials have helped me with some of my questions so as I watch your tutorials I know that I will learn a lot.( I can better understand your tutorials) lol. Anyways I have a question is there anything that I need to do to my washers b4 I start inking? All of My washers didn't come brand new some of them are ones that I've collected over the years. And yes I am a crafter that just sets things to aside and keeps it saying one day will come that i would need it for and that's what happened when I came upon your video and I KNEW RIGHT THEN I HAD TO TRY THIS.. SO THANKS IN ADVANCE BUT I KNOW MINE WONT BE AS BEAUTIFUL AS YOURS BUT I'VE GOT TO TRY. I WILL SEND YOU A VIDEO OF HOW MINE CAME OUT. SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, LOL

To your question: If they have a bit of rust you could try to use it to your advantage and make it part of the piece or you could take a bit of fine steel wool and try try to buff off. Other than that put on some gloves, and wipe them all down with some alcohol to clean any oils and dirt off. Best of luck in your journey, I'm sure they'll be beautiful 😍🙏🥰❤️

Thank you!🙏🥰 It's a 4x4in glazed ceramic tile. I use them for coasters and alcohol inks wipe right off them with a paper towel and alcohol. You can purchase them at almost any flooring or home improvement store. 💕
You can also use a toothpick to move the paint. ❤❤❤❤

Can you tell me, do you do anything with the back of the washers or leave or leave them plain. Love them. I have added resin to the top of mine 😊
I like to leave mine plain and just spray the back with kamar. ❤️

Very beautiful jewelry! I’m wondering if there is a need for a finish or coat of something on the back to protect skin from discoloration or irritation from the metal?
Thank you Mizow🙏💕 I would say if you have a skin allergy to metal , possibly coat the back with clear nail polish. I worked for me in highschool with my boyfriends class ring 😅💕

Thanks Nancy! 🥰💕 I let it set up overnight just to make sure it's completely dry. Then I let the Kamar spray cure for a full day too.
You can also seal it with triple thick spray❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the tip but I'm pretty sure Triple thick will make the inks bleed. You need an alcohol free water base varnish down first. 🙏🥰
Use Shambala or Macrame technique for the leather❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You can use what ever you like on yours, I'm just showing how I make mine 💕
I lke your technique. I believe that you will find it easier to open the jump rings by 'twisting' instead of 'spreading' the ends.

Do you do anything to prep the washers before you apply the inks
I just wipe them off with a bit of alcohol and let them dry first, then ink away. 🥰💕

What size are your washers? They look bigger than the ones my husband found for me.
There 2inches in diameter with about a quarter inch hole.

They can, but I wouldn't recommend wearing one in the shower or swimming pool. ❤️
