    I've been looking for a tutorial like this for AGES, and happily, stumbled across this today. I am so excited to find this! I immediately bought the Fantasy Map Builder and am hoping this is just the thing to bring my artistic "mojo" back. This is amazing and I plan to share it in my digital art group since I've never heard of Map Effects before and I know lots of people in my group that would love this too.

    Such a wonderfull kit. I struggled with map drawing for years and I have just completed my first one with these brushes. I would like more icons to diversify cities, add caves, mines, bridges and much more. Maybe for another release...

      Hey that's really awesome to hear. If there was a positive response to the Map Builder I did intend to release future add-ons so people can get the base pack and then customize for their needs. Were you able to get the Medieval Icons bonus that was sent out as an exclusive to my email list? If not...stay tuned and those will be released soon.

    I've buyed the pack. My thougts.
    _on channel you can see a short video of what i did by so far_
    There's a real lack of lakes, caves, mines etc.. so you won't be able to do much more than in the video.
    Still that 32$ is quite expensive for what you got, would sell it 15$ if it's just a starter pack, but if it's improved by time (with some lakes caves etc...) and for free i have no problem with the price.
    We don't have the brush that he used to create the stamps, wich means that if you want to draw what's missing _(like a little logo, or plants or else)_ you won't be able cause your brushes won't look like the stamps.
    Some positive, the whole pack is quite easy to use if you know the basics of your program.
    The stamps of sea monsters, and some others are really nice looking.
    200 brushes / stamps look impresive at first, but a lot of mountains, dunes and trees are very similiar.
    Still that i'm not callin for refund, cause you can still make maps, wich is the promise. But note that you will be very limited on what you can do.
    Have a nice day.

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Flavio, I do appreciate the feedback and I will take it into consideration with any future updates.
      I did want to mention though that the brush I used to draw every element is actually included in the pack, it's the Excavation Liner in the Brush category. So you should be able to draw additional elements if you so choose so they match.
      For lakes I personally use the river brush to draw a lake shape and erase away the center lines. Hopefully that makes sense.
      Thank you again for your feedback and I hope you have a great day!

    I'll definitely think about buying these brushes. I just have to decide which application to use. I don't want to pay for Photoshop. Does anyone have any suggestions. The brushes are only applicable to Procreate, Photoshop, Affinity Photo, and Clip Studio Paint.

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend checking out Clip Studio Paint if you don't have an Ipad to use Procreate (My personal favorite). CSP is a much more affordable alternative to Photoshop and honestly better in my opinion for map making and illustration. Hope that helps!

    Is there a size limit on the maps? Would I be able to make a huge map and have it so it prints out in sections in A4?
    Sorry if these sound dumb, I've never used photoshop or anything.
    It's a shame you don't have a version for mobile.

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! The only real limitation is how large a document your computer or tablet can handle. But if you’re breaking it up into sections then there’s no problem. I created the map builders to run in the most popular drawing apps like Photoshop or Procreate so there wouldn’t be a lot of the creative limitations you can encounter if it were its own independent app. If you have an IPhone it does actually work in Procreate Pocket as well but then you’ll have the document size limitation issue because a phone can only handle so much. Hope that helps!

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are not. I looked into making them compatible with GIMP awhile ago, but wasn’t impressed with the brush engine. It seemed to really struggle with the high resolution brushes, even on my IMac. While apps like Affinity or Clip Studio had no issue.

    Hi, could you please clarify the below:
    'You may use the assets in this pack for commercial projects such as a map to include in a fantasy novel, or for marketing and branding for a client; as long as you credit the Map Effects Fantasy Map Builder for the original illustrations.'
    Is this regarding assets in the pack or maps made using the assets? To simplify, what does the license require from the buyer if they were to use the pack to create a map for use in a video game?
    Thanks!

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally with commercial projects, if you are commissioned for a map you will receive named credit as the illustrator of the map. If you use The Fantasy Map Builder for the commercial project you can be credited as the designer of the map, and I just ask credit also be given to The Map Effects Fantasy Map Builder as the tool you used. Hope that makes sense!

    Heya I'm loving the brush set, but when I use the magic wand tool to try and select outside the ocean lines, it just keeps slipping between the thick coastline and the outer thinner ocean line. I can see there are loads of gaps inbetween the pixels, even when drawing a continuous line. Any tips for how to get round this?

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey thanks for the question! When you select the magic wand tool, on the top bar you should see something that says "tolerance". Try adjusting that number until it only selects the area that you want. The lower the number the less it will bleed into the gray areas. Mine is set to 20 and it seems to be working just fine. Hopefully that helps!

      @@MapEffects Is there any easy way to fill the shapes in without having to paint in a layer behind them?

    • @MapEffects
      @MapEffects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelPhillipsatGreyOwlStudio If you don't mind your line art and your color/shading all on the same layer, then you could just use the paint bucket tool to fill in. If you want to keep things separate (Which I'd recommend) You can actually use the magic wand selection tool.
      Make sure your line art layer is selected, then using the magic wand tool, select all the areas you want to fill. Then go to the top bar and go to "Select", "Modify", and "Expand". a panel should pop up asking how many pixels you want to expand your selection by. Depending on what it is...you can probably just do 2 - 5 pixels. This just allow you to get your selection fully behind your line art so you don't see any weird edges.
      With everything still selected, create a new layer below your line art. Go up to "Edit" and select "Fill...". This should fill in all the areas you have selected.
      If you're wanting to fill in something like trees and you don't want to click each individual one. You will do the same except you select the area surrounding the trees, expand your selection, and then go back up to "Selection" and pick "Inverse". Now instead of the area surrounding the forest being selected, it should only select the trees.
      Before doing this on a full map where things can get complicated. I'd recommend playing around with it on just one or two trees first just to get the principle down.
      Hope that helps!

      @MichaelPhillipsatGreyOwlStudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MapEffects Yeah, that's how I typically do it, but the mountains are left open at the bottom and thus cannot be filled by using the magic wand and inverse. I was just wondering if it was possible to have a mountain that already had the shading built in or could be added.
