I love how the VA just hammed this scene up to the maximum. At this point I was already essentially treating every cutscene as something from a play. Big movements so that even the people in the back can tell what’s going on.
A lot of english voice actors (well Japanese as well I suppose) get hired after doing a lot of theatre. I think this is such a good idea because in stuff like anime and most animation, it’s usually going to be pretty “over the top”, which is something we stage actors are taught to do from the get go. Acting that would normally be called “chewing the scenery”, which basically means that someone is “over-acting”, fits anime, cartoons, and video games like this to a T. If you watch any interviews or panels with voice actors at a con being asked for advice in how to get started, theatre is one of the most common recommendations. Seriously, voice acting IS acting, which means you should try to get as well versed in as much acting as possible, even for the stage. I forget who but one va I remember mentioning that “to do voice acting, you have to love acting as a whole.” Or something along those lines. So seriously, look for local auditions! Community theatre is a fantastic way to start, and they’re always looking for new people. Sorry this turned from a “yeah theatre actors are so great for anime and anime games” to “go audition!!”

Though Harry McEntire was known more for his TV acting roles prior to Noah in Xenoblade 3 (like Æthelwold on Last Kingdom), he did begin with acting in theatre, so it is his early basis. Also might be why Aimee-Ffion Edwards might have a more subdued role as Mio in Xenoblade 3 and lesser extent (in line count) as Ranni in Elden Ring while still being excellent is her previous works are actually film/TV, she played alongside Cillian Murphy, y'know, the guy who plays Oppenheimer.
It's funny how her facial expressions hardly represent 1/5th of the emotion that the VA expresses. Lumera's voice is condemning Veyle to the depths of Hell, while Lumera's face is scolding Veyle for not taking the chicken breasts out of the freezer.
The dub is secondary at that point since it didn't taken into account what would be like. The face is fine for me but the lips isn't sync. Making it sync will likely show half of the emotion

Usually I complain about this type of voice acting in games, because the original Japanese voices tend to be much more nuanced, but this is Fire Emblem Engage, there's not a single shred of nuance here... I mean, look at their designs, they're not medieval warriors fighting in a war, they're Vtubers hanging out at a spa town!
I was so excited for this game and after the first chapter I started dreading it. I didn't get very far before I stopped but I was thinking about giving it another go. I really am here for the gameplay at the end of the day, its just a shame because at no point in three houses did I feel things were weird. This game is just one big eek for me.
