If Amazon isn't careful no one will be buying a firestick or Cube. 3rd party apps are the only reason to own one.
I agree. That's why I have 1. If they take away sideloading apps, then I'm done with them.
The problem is there aren't a huge amount of alternatives. There's the shield but it's clear that nvidia have abandoned that project
Remember, most people are novice users. They use official applications.
So, unfortunately, Amazon isn't in any danger of losing any kind of numbers that will actually hurt them.

I already switched to ONN at Walmart. It's $20 for 4k, almost stock google tv. Can turn off all ads if you want or use another launcher. I actually like the stock ads on Google because they recommend stuff I actually like.

This is getting ridiculous it really is. Amazon are incorporating stuff like this into the latest models, which begs the question. Why buy a new Amazon device if they are gonna keep doing this? Plus the prices are creeping up all the time which is putting their products in the same price range as better devices. Ones that are more receptive to third party apps.

A launcher is one thing but if they start deleting side loaded apps on mass there's going to be a problem and people will abandon the platform and just get android boxes. Then when there stock plummets and there scratching there heads why android boxes are outselling them they'll reverse course somehow granted some will stick around but install base would plummet
Cheers doc excellent as usual.I will not be buying new 4k max until these problems are started. Getting the same way as Microsoft testing them on general public for about 12 months until they get it right. There will be a huge price reduction coming soon because people will not buy them

Amazon made tons of money during Covid, they wasn't blocking 3rd party apps then.

One big reason I have all updates blocked from the root access you gave on a previous video back in the summer. It’s still working great, no issues and the launcher works awesome.

Hi doc I finally got fed up with it so I went out and got me a buzz TV box and it is a whole lot better all around
This is happening on my Fire cube 2 and 4k Firestick since a week ago. The LM app installs but Fire OS will not let it run. Shows up in apps. No notices though. I think I'll be switching out to Walmarts ONN tv box. Less hassle of always fighting Amazons changes for the worse.

My 4K Max has broken, my new Fire Cube 3rd Gen has been having problems & I'm reduced to using my regular 4K which I bought first! I've only been doing this a few months and am wondering whether with all these extra headaches it is all worth the effort? ' Love your channel tho!
I've got a backup twenty dollar walmart box. They are cheaper and work OK.

Doc, I’m confused. I ordered a Fire TV Cube 3rd generation and received it the same day I watched this video, however in a more recent video it seems like you’re saying something different. Would please explain this to me? I returned the 3rd generation box for a 2nd generation box. What should I do? Return the 2nd generation and reorder the 3rd or just keep the 2nd generation? Thanks!

I just don't bother setting up a 3rd party launcher. Amazon will always find a way to disable it that it's just not worth going through the hassle of getting things the way you want.
I basically pin the apps I use most up top and that's it. I also disabled the ads from auto playing. I've learned to live with it that way....
as a sidenote I recently got an echo show on prime day and I wish I had gotten it sooner as I can now tell it to turn on my tv, shut off my lights, and stream my doorbell to my tv...I gather u wouldn't be able to do any of that if I used a 3rd party launcher.🤔

i dont use custom launcher and i dont miss it at all it is just additional storage and ram resources which the firestick is limited , you can put your shortcuts on the original launcher , this app is useless ,you dont like ads , well dont look or click on them
As these devices are the only ones currently that have full certification for all uk services and the major streaming apps and allow sideloading even though I can't stand the way Amazon are treating me there is no choice but to stick with them. To everyone saying they will drop it what would you move to, the shield is obviously out as it doesn't allow all4.
I agree with you on that one I don't know why free apps like that you know what I mean aren't supported on other devices. Probably because they pay for exclusivity.

I have a Fire TV Stick 4K Max connected to a t.v., and have only turned it on 2 times for a few minutes to load a new app on to it that channels like this recommended. I also have a Xiaomi TV Stick (Android) plugged into a 2nd computer monitor next to main computer. I use it FAR more because I can have something playing on the 2nd monitor while working on the computer.
Guess I should leave my Firestick off until the Doc here comes up with a work around, then turn on the Firestick, do the work around and not use the Firestick anyways 🤣

lol , for the safety of OUR personal data…. They don’t allow room for our data. I only had one app on mine and the rest is THEIR weekly advertising flyers.
I’m over a year off of Amazon. I got fed up with them and bought a mini PC for my needs.
Even when I was still doing the sticks I only bought when they would drop to $25. Then buy 3 or 4 and treat them as disposable. Or usually give some away or have them so if someone wanted me to do something with theirs I’d do it on one from the bin and drop off and trade for the one they had.
Only one left now and it’s moms. I use it for testing stuff occasionally but only twice a year tops.

Launchers are junk any way. Half the time they dont work or act glitchy. You dont want a third party app to take full control of youre firestick anyway.

That's the issue there aren't any, these devices are the only ones in the UK that have certification for all the UK domestic channels, full certification for all the major streaming apps and allow sideloading such as kodi.

I believe amazon is going to lose customers because we like to do the 3rd party apps,, which in my case i am ready to go get some type of android box that way Amazon doesn't have full controll of your device..

In regards to your question I had this once. I found if you leave it on it will eventually boot takes ages maybe leave it over night. When and if it does factory wipe it. Then it should be fine.

without doing a full jailbreak, its impossible to do that
