I was in Chicago when 9/11 happened and PJ Harvey played two days later, opening with this song. An incredible experience that I will never forget. I get goosebumps listening to this now.
The world is so messed up with coronavirus and all that the only thing left is to enjoy such great artists as Polly Jean Harvey... Art is all we have and all that will remain from us...
Yesterday I have seen PJ in Roundhouse. Oh gosh, how she transformed from rock`n`roll girl to a mature folk artist. Stories from the city... is my favorite PJ album but a quiet and intimate face of Polly Jean attracts me as well.
I see that someone seems to think this song has no meaning without Thom Yorke singing along with PJ Harvey, I'm afraid I disagree with that, I think this song has just as much meaning, if not more, when PJ is singing it solo as she hardly sings in the album version as it is.
Its so much more powerful with her singing solo, cause on the album it feels like she's just a bystander observing Thom Yorke as he relays a situation that happened with him and a girl and she just chimes in every now and then and then joins in speaking out what the girl may have said as he gets lost in his thoughts....the album version is all about him.....where as a solo with only her...its a far different situation and experience...its from her point of view...her feelings about it and observations...and her calling the shots and her saying this wont work and goodbye...and being left to ponder while the sun sets over her.....its so much more beautiful devastating and powerful Both versions are very magical in their own way.......anytime i cam see just PJ with a guitar though.......Thom who? Lol (love her love this) 💖
the whole beauty of the original song & what makes it super powerful is the structure: having Thom Yorke leading while she's following him during the chorus...until it transitions to her talking on top of Thom's singing, and ends with her being the one leading and him following her....a complete symetry with the lyrics adding so much to it too! solo, it's a basic subpar cover lol
He was one of her biggest fans...Says it all about her really, especially when Nick Cave is also one of her biggest followers and former boyfriend aswell
No one comes close to her..Perfection in musical and human form...She has no peers

I'm a big big fan of Radiohead and Thom and while i do love they colab, i agree wth this!

The song doesn’t even need Thom Yorke
Great
İnanılmaz.
what in the world makes people think that screaming during a performance doesn't just piss off the people around them.

where's yorkie bar?
songs are meant to be sung. when you sing this song is tom yorke singing with you?
THIS is dark femininity.
😱
Супер!
Had Kurt Cobain married Polly J we would still have him here today. Many more Nirvana albums and the World would have been all the finer for it🙃
He was one of her biggest fans...Says it all about her really, especially when Nick Cave is also one of her biggest followers and former boyfriend aswell

I'm not that fond of many women. But I love Polly.
I think this song is better without Thom Yorke to be honest lmao.... I like him in it but prefer it without him.
