I just wanted to say you're one of the rare vocal coaches on TH-cam who actually analyses videos and talks about techniques which really helpful for us instead of just watching and closing the videos. You're my favourite vocal teacher in here ♡
I believe Mariah's breathiness is 100% a stylistic choice here because this is prime Mariah we are watching and she was fully capable of creating a clean, clear sound unlike later in her career when her voice became uncontrollably hoarse. I do understand your concern though because it's not the healthiest way to sing and she tended to add a tons of breathiness in most of her songs.
Part of it definitely isn't a choice. IF the nodules thing is true - it makes sense. She would need a bit more pressure to get better closure of the folds to produce less airy tone qualities - which is definitely easier with thicker folds. So most of her (softer) thin fold singing would be a bit breathy, wanted or not. I think she's making use of it by exaggerating though ...so that it sounds more like it's on purpose.
Sam's videos are like a nice lecture with your favourite professor, you can see they are totally passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject and you can't help but be charmed by them it's really calming in a sense
I really don't think you're picky. You do a great job at explaining how to make sounds and differentiate between stuff that comes from practice (thus not immediately possible), stuff that is unique to a person (thus unlikely to achieve), and stuff that is part of healthy singing or not. Like, i really don't sing and have very limited knowledge of music but I can tell that you are a great teacher because in spite of that, I can understand what you mean. Your explanations help people who start by imitating beyoncé or mariah and think they are untalented because they don't sound like them, when almost nobody does because they are goddesses. Great video as always Sam!

Loving the hair 😍 Seems like quarantine hits you different.
He used to have looong hair. It seems like he’s growing it out again
I think Mariah’s breathiness comes naturally for her because of her nodules.
Hey Sam did you get a chance to look up more live stuff from Chloe and Halle? They are actually Beyonce's artists and the kind of sound like her too.
Hey Sam! Please react to Jane Zhang singing The Diva Song from Fifth Element - I must know how she does it!
yayy!!! do more Miguel please!!
OR his cover of Prince's Die 4 u
I don’t know why, but the tiny “Sam move back” on Sam’s forehead @ 2:35 cracks me up way harder than I thought
More of this sam, love this❤️
I love hearing you react to these compilation videos. You get such a wide breadth of techniques and advice
Tamar Braxton SLAYS
Ugh. I needed this positivity today. Thanks, Sam.
You reduce my stress. Enjoy your watercolors.
I am surprised no one suggested Lara Fabian to you, one the of the best vocalists in the world.. Please react to:
Lara Fabian - You're Not From Here ( LIVE )
Sam you’re such a good teacher. I wanna take lessons from you
Beyoncé has always been a phenomenal vocal producer. She vocal produced all of the Destiny's Child albums and does the same for all of her music, even when people send her reference tracks or fully done songs. She still does it HER way.
Destiny’s Child was singing the Amen from Richard Smallwood’s “Total Praise”. His harmonies are everything.
Tamar is one of my favorite singers of all time and I'm glad she's included in this
Please Sam, react to any video of Mariah's quarantine videos singing acapella!!! She slayed. When I see her recent vocals in your videos it's usually her fails
"It's FINE!" I wish more people had this perspective! More Tori Kelly please!
Sorry you had to explain WHY you break down the best singers. The best way to learn new techniques and improve your singing is to study the best singers out there. Thanks for explain HOW they do it so I can improve my singing. HUGZ!
This has to be my favorite or one of my favorite ideas of Sam ❤️
Also, SAM can you please react to Mariah’s Stevie Wonder tribute of “You & I” pleeaassee. She hits some low notes and huge runs that I would love to hear your thoughts on. 🙏🏽
"bathrooms will create a nice pleasing sound". yes, I think we've all learned that.
First I was watching your videos because I found your comments and analyses so interesting. Now I'm watching them because your sponsorship announcements crack me up :) Keep goin !
I thoroughly enjoy watching you do your thing. Very educational and entertaining.
I really love these types of reviews. I used to go to a vocal coach I really enjoyed but my vocal coach, sadly, she moved for personal reasons once this pandemic stuff can up so she doesn’t teach right now and after I got it I lost a lot of my lung capacity and a lot of the techniques that had worked for me do not work at all anymore but watching these back over again really helps for readjusting to what I have to work with now. There’s just something different about these videos as compared to some other videos that are dedicated to singing tips.
Sza: I called daddy
Sam: haha.. Lol we know Sam you're the Daddy lol
I love how you teach & you always give everyone a chance! You have NEVER been mean or nasty with your feedback, always positive...love it 👍 thank you for your informative vids and yes I subscribed last year 👌
