Don’t guess! Say “I don’t remember” and look it up. Be PIC. Take your time. No one failed for taking their time but you will fail for rushing. Laugh at the DPEs terrible jokes
Just like you need to find the right flight instructor for you, finding the right DPE is also important, imo. The DPE for my private and instrument was great and promoted a healthy cockpit environment, but I got a new one for my commercial and commercial multi IR and his personality clashed with mine quite a bit (I passed both on the first attempt, but it wasn't a great experience)...
Good Stuff Lew. Now here’s an absolute LEGEND move: nearly all pilots have watched that 1980s (?) oral interview video. Track those two down and interview them on your podcast. One million views, …maybe.
I had a stage check the other day and absolutely bombed it. I forgot how to fly. I was struggling to configure it before we even got going. I'm glad to have experienced that before my actual checkride though. Hopefully it'll help me manage that next time. I have to make up that stage check soon and hopefully I've got whatever that was out of my system. I always enjoy your vids, Lewis.
I go for my check ride on Tuesday, and your videos have been extremely helpful with my training. Cheers mate for another great vid! This one helps the most.
@@LewDixAviation Aced the ground and got the best DPE I could ask for but got discontinued because the W&B for our plane was borderline and he wasn't comfortable flying on the line, which to me is the best example of risk mitigation and sticking to person limits. I hope that all pilots could strive to be more like him.
So, I am pretty sure I was the first person to buy your PA-28-180 checklist since I bombarded you with requests on every social media platform with different names to make one, LOL! Thanks for all of your videos and advice. I have my check ride on 2/24, so it's the final countdown, and I will use these tips to at least bring the stress of the exam down. I like your comparison of it is just a conversation between pilots! Fly safe!!!
You mentioned taking care of your body day of. Also make sure you do that day prior. Stay away from alcohol day before. Get a good night's rest. And for oral prep, it's best to take a day to decompress before the test. Don't cram until the last minute.
I have personally seen 3 check ride disapproval's for failing to turn off the mags and remove the key on otherwise passing rides! Yes it was on the checklist if it had been used.
As someone is trying to start flight training best advice? I’m going to start my second discovery flight and from the looks of Checkrides online they look complicated. I’m only going for a private to fly for fun
For anything except PPL, Shephard Air is the key. Follow the process, it works. And if you don't understand something during the process, take the time to research the correct answer.
You missed a big one IMO: the DPE has to tell you right when you’ve failed. If you think you messed up but they aren’t saying anything, you haven’t failed. Onward!
Don't stow your map in a side panel while in route to a check point , I literally got yelled at while I was in my check ride about doing that. Luckily everything else I did was Rod Machado perfect so I passed.
Do you have any extra checkride tips? Leave a comment and let me know!
