it's pretty crazy how tech like this from the early 1970s is still relevant and still has scary capability. look at the sidewinder too, it originated in the 1950s and is still the most successful missile platform in the world, hard to shake off with a good enough warhead. the M1 abrams design has already been around (counting the start of design, not starting at production) for about 50 years, and is still one of the most successful MBTs. the leopard 2 is also about 50 years old in it's design, still extremely capable. it's mindblowing that we still use tech from designs that you may think is outdated, but in reality if you threw a decent pilot in an F-15C eagle against an intermediate pilot in a SU-57 you may have the eagle emerge victorious. it's truly just something that makes you wonder: How?
While you didn't need it in the video, one habit that is useful to develop while in the Tomcat is flipping the ACM switch/cover on your upfront console when getting into a dogfight (you can have it as a toggle on your joystick): just by flipping it up, it will set up your plane for ACM mode which will set your gun fire rate to High if it's low, cool your Sidewinders and Prep your other missiles if for some reason you have them off and more importantly it will switch your radar to Boresight mode and your Phoenixes and Sparrows will require 1 second of pulling the trigger to fire them instead of the usual 3. My buddy got hooked on DCS and apparently became the best F-14 pilot in his group. After watching this video I have a way bigger appreciation for what he must have went through to accomplish that.
Actually really enjoyed this, even tho it's not action packed and everything it was still entertaining and had my full attention. Hope to see more pilot videos
The missle that jester called and rwr didn't announce was prob R-27ET, long-range IR missle which is equipped on I think all Russian aircraft in DCS. You killed SU-33 which would make sense. Always remember to look at RWR and know what you're up against.
I'm going to have to get into DCS eventually. This takes me WAY back to 1994, playing Fleet Defender, which was a super detailed and highly technical F-14 sim. Basically the concept of DCS, but focused on the Tomcat and, of course, limited to what we could do with a mid-90s PC.
You forgot to watch Fighter Fling 2002 through 2004 as part of your F-14 training. Nothing kindles my nostalgia more than seeing early 2000s footage of the Tomcat while a Hoobastank song plays. Last Time, Baby...
Great stuff love it. Been flight simming for a million years. This is so great t see. No trolling just flying and learning and do it better. Brilliant.
The Tomcat is the perfect choice for what you wanted to achieve here. Jester A.I. is managing so much stuff for you like radar and callouts that the pilot can completely focus on his flying and engagements. Even if the F-14 is a high fidelity module it makes your life so much easier compared to all other modules in DCS. I highly recommend this plane for everyone that's interested in getting started with DCS.
I love the tomcat easily the coolest looking aircraft the us ever put into service and not to mention it got a game in tomcat alley a master piece if i may say. God i love the f14
Well, I can say for sure that you over G'd a lot your F-14, since your INS seems to be shattered or bent most of the time (the artificial horizon not aligning with the actual horizon). Might have had trouble firing Phoenixes or Sparrows then.
The only good thing about finding a creator late is that there is so much content to watch. Every damn video is a good one. Is there a name for the roll and fire maneuver? 10/10 effectiveness. And it just looks bad ass.
Drewski you know that you can use the TCS (the camera on the nose) to guide the AIM54 I also find it useful to spy on locked targets so I know when they launch missiles and can kinetically counter them or turn cold if within the MAR.
@@TheStalkingSniper ACM Flap up TCS track on a target aim in the general area. Fire. its a very rough line of sight/angle off track but it does work. I didn't realize they were getting phased out, I just thought they were getting upgrades until someone told me.
Fox 1 is a missle that needs the planes radar to lock on Fox 2 is a heat seeking missle, but back then they were rear aspect missles, now they are all aspect missles Fox 3 is a missle that has its own radar, most commonly know as 'fire and forget' missles
Northrop and Grumman factory was located right near my house. Everyday you’d hear these awesome F-14s break the sound barrier, rattle the houses, and light up the sky with afterburners. Truly a sight to behold. It was a sad day when they ended production
As part of my job in the Navy was listening to radar signals for counter detection threats. The F-14 uses an AWG9 surface search radar that has a very very distinctive sound to it. It sounds almost like the “gronk” droid (the walking trash can droid) for Star Wars...a deep kind of “bbwaaaamp”

16:13 That was most probably a R-27T, a medium range IR missile that Russian planes have.
They have very useful, since they don't alert the RWR.
My buddy got hooked on DCS and apparently became the best F-14 pilot in his group. After watching this video I have a way bigger appreciation for what he must have went through to accomplish that.
I honestly recommend the f-14 to any one who wants an easy to start jet and the weapons are easy too, and also it can takeoff and land from carriers
grinning like a moron when it said "original music by drewski"
th-cam.com/video/8a-iz0AlvZk/w-d-xo.html :)
the f14 is the absolute most badass naval plane ever made. TITANIUM!
That “skating” feeling you get is exactly what I get when I’m flying in arma, but it reminds me of long boarding so much
I love that she takes an interest in what you love, that's the way it should be.
IT'S HAPPENING EVERYONE, DREWSKI IS IN THE CAT! I REPEAT, DREWSKI IS IN THE CAT!
I'm going to have to get into DCS eventually. This takes me WAY back to 1994, playing Fleet Defender, which was a super detailed and highly technical F-14 sim. Basically the concept of DCS, but focused on the Tomcat and, of course, limited to what we could do with a mid-90s PC.
the way your 'DOOO BLBLBLBLBL' perfectly matched that missile movement really cracked me up, great video!
The intro is perfect. I don't even need to watch what's next, that intro counts as gold content to me 3:42
Watching you play with all that tactical accurate chit chat is always awesome, gives me goosebumps when something really intense happens !
"Flanker, 5 o'clock"
One of the scarier things to hear.
Man this editing work gave me nerd chills. Well done..
You forgot to watch Fighter Fling 2002 through 2004 as part of your F-14 training. Nothing kindles my nostalgia more than seeing early 2000s footage of the Tomcat while a Hoobastank song plays. Last Time, Baby...
you can't argue the F-14 has really smooth flying in dcs
Great stuff love it. Been flight simming for a million years. This is so great t see. No trolling just flying and learning and do it better. Brilliant.
AWACS BANDOG : "happiness noise".
As someone who's Grandfather flew these planes for almost 2 decades this was an extremely fun video to watch.
26:13 if it was my girl, she would be: "good job dude, you did it! Now go get a real job!
I just used the short made by tricker that tells you how to start up the f14 in a matter of seconds
I feel the need, the need for SPEED!
16:36 'Oh I can now officially say i've watched Top Gun, it wasn't that good but it was still fun' The sheer audacity on this man, disgusting...
Great flying Drewski!
I love the tomcat easily the coolest looking aircraft the us ever put into service and not to mention it got a game in tomcat alley a master piece if i may say. God i love the f14
13:45
Flying NOE in the Rockies on FS is how I got hooked on flying!
Well, I can say for sure that you over G'd a lot your F-14, since your INS seems to be shattered or bent most of the time (the artificial horizon not aligning with the actual horizon). Might have had trouble firing Phoenixes or Sparrows then.
your not trying hard enough if the aircraft isn't a slightly different shape when you get back to base
It’s supposed to be depressed about 5 degrees underneath the actual horizon in the tomcat
I love your content dude, keep it up!
04:50 top gun vibes right there
I don’t know what’s going on but I love it.
The only good thing about finding a creator late is that there is so much content to watch. Every damn video is a good one. Is there a name for the roll and fire maneuver? 10/10 effectiveness. And it just looks bad ass.
"a game that gives you a reward for time spent" - **crys in Black Desert Online**
Damn, the joy in your wife's voice when you get the kill. Reminds me of Colbert's wife laughing at his jokes.
That cinematic with the changing angles was beautiful
I just got the f/a 18 and I’m still learning I’m not going into guns and armament yet I’m still mastering the flying aspect of the planes.

Is that fucking mover?!
edit: can someone explain the mover vs spudknocker thing?
I think it might be
It is, it's a screenshot from when Mover called out Spudknocker for lying about his credentials a while back
@@kurtisknechtel3728
can you link a video on it or explain it?
Thank you for not only flying but explaining why your doing things and how your doing them to teach people who don’t know much about aviation.
Drewski you know that you can use the TCS (the camera on the nose) to guide the AIM54 I also find it useful to spy on locked targets so I know when they launch missiles and can kinetically counter them or turn cold if within the MAR.
Man wtf are you on about you can't guide a fucking Phoenix with the TCS....
@@TheStalkingSniper ACM Flap up
TCS track on a target
aim in the general area.
Fire.
its a very rough line of sight/angle off track but it does work. You know its working because the Pheonix will drop and move slightly toward the target.
Usually it will just carry on ahead of you with the ACM flap up.
Check the patch notes if you don't believe me Heatblur recently fixed it around 1-2 patches ago.
@@glassfullofmilk omg dude what you just said has nothing to do with the TCS...
When you flip the acm cover up phoenix' are set to mad dog, meaning they will turn their seekers on and go active right off the rail.
The TCS literally plays not part in this..
When I was in the Navy my sister squadron the Grim Reapers were all F14's, years later one by one, I watched them go to the hanger a few down from ours to get dismantled. Such a sad sight. I didn't realize they were getting phased out, I just thought they were getting upgrades until someone told me.
“You are your own worst enemy.....and the idiot who doesn’t check his IFF” -someone I dunno who but I assume he’s important
Fox 1 is a missle that needs the planes radar to lock on
Fox 2 is a heat seeking missle, but back then they were rear aspect missles, now they are all aspect missles
Fox 3 is a missle that has its own radar, most commonly know as 'fire and forget' missles
Hey Drew, the amount of hours you have to play these games, I'm worried you may be turning into a vampire, do you ever see the sun?
What's a sun?
Thanks drew, my dad was a f14 rio and I never got to really ask him about his experiences before he passed. F*cking bad ass. Love your dcs content!
Everyone here talking about the plane but no one doing a double take when Drewski says he's married
I was surprised.
Northrop and Grumman factory was located right near my house. Everyday you’d hear these awesome F-14s break the sound barrier, rattle the houses, and light up the sky with afterburners. Truly a sight to behold. It was a sad day when they ended production
Haven’t seen the vid yet but if he doesn’t play danger zone i will be sad
26:08 your wife celebrating your points in a videogame! Brother you have everything in your life
im early for once, considering ive been here for years. Its a first lol
This guy in the background.... "Top gun wasn't that good" you shut your mouth sir!

@@OperatorDrewski unless your life dream is to be a fighter pilot?
@@livehighdielater Fighting in a real plane is VERY different from a video game. For one, you have a few more systems due to classification. Rules of engagement, physical effects of flight, fear of death, radio communication, electronic warfare, and much much more. There is a reason real fighter pilots take so long to train.
