Race to Alaska 2024 Training

Guardians Emily, Joe, Eric and Michael spend a weekend training with their J24 "Rebel Yell" at Fern Ridge near Eugene, Or in preparation for the Race to Alaska. Guardian Sailing is more than a boat, and her crew but serves a purpose for those in a unique state of mind. Our programming works for those hurting who have sacrificed a great deal for their service. We train veterans and first responders how to sail and teach coping skills to combat negative symptoms of their trauma and PTSD.

The Race to Alaska is a 750 mile race from Port Townsend to Ketchikan, Alaska with no motor and no shore support. When not sailing you must rely on human propulsion. We have been working on this race for 1 year now and it has cost us a great deal of time, resources and effort to be at the starting line as the race is set to start on June 9th with 43 other teams. It has been wonderful getting to watch the other teams with great personalities set goals and accomplish them to be in Port Townsend. Their drive and commitment has been inspiring and we consider all of them team members.
