Thanks! Yes, I filmed as I made the sketchbook so I can edit that into a video. The belt and purse idea came from painting outside a lot and knowing what things have worked and not worked for me in the past. I’m excited to use it!! ❤
A big vote for yes, please, on the sketchbook video!! This would be perfect timing for me as I have just acquired all the materials (hopefully) and am in search of the best video tutorial. I think I can speak for all of us here; we would be over the moon to learn this technique from you, Leslie!
After I watched this review, I ordered the Sendak for myself. It JUST arrived and I’m very excited by it. Hands-down, much better than the pencil case I’ve been struggling with so far. I can hardly wait to get out and paint. Thank you so much for your very thorough review.
Art Toolkit has little thin plastic pots...I have one in my Sendak pockets. I have a moss green, and a grey Sendak, absolutely love them. So happy to see a video about them and see what you put in yours. I also bought two of their pouches they can piggyback on top of you Sendak and hold secure under the belt. The belt can even thread through the peg and awl leather front plate perfectly on one of the pouches. I have the pencil pouch size on my moss green Sendak that I use for my watercolor supplies. One of my palettes fits perfectly in it. And a smaller pouch on my grey Sendak that I use for my colored pencil supplies. I'd love to see a video about you filling your small Sendak! I could talk about these all day....so happy for you and excited I think you'll love yours.
Thanks for all the great ideas! Adding an additional pouch to the strap if needed is clever. I love Art Toolkit too; their mini palettes are terrific! 😊
You could slice a small disc of each of your neo IIs. Put them in a container with like your eraser is in. If you wet the bottom of them and stick them to the container bottom, they will stay put usually. Love the pouch
This has convinced me to get a Sendak. I’ve been looking at them for ages. I love having a pick up and go art pack and I’ve tried many in the past. This has got to be the one! Thanks for going over the wrap so completely. Also please do the sketchbook tutorial as I love making books and looks so cute. X
Love the case, would love a video on making the book.i have made a few but I made them spiral bound,I like that yours has chapters…thank you for all your beautiful videos…
Love the washi tape move, wow! Can you wrap up your eraser in some baking paper? And the strap/belt,,,I love it! These are great ideas! Thanks so much! 🎉❤
Love, love, love the SENDak art roll. You have put a creative spin on using the belt. Having everything you need with you is lovely. I ordered one for my trip coming up. I would like very much a video on making the sketchbook. Thank you for this lovely video. It makes me want to go out and paint!
I got this for Christmas last year, and I love it so much. It's one of my prized artist possessions. I keep it ready to go out painting, and it has really helped get me out of the house. Very versatile. I'm also planning to make a watercolour sketch book to go in the back pocket, and maybe one slimline one for the inside. I'm looking forward to seeing how you fill yours ❤ Leslie does the small Sendak have outer pockets? I couldn't tell. I got a scribbler pouch for days I'm travelling really light.
It’s nice to hear that you love yours too. You should definitely make custom sketchbooks for it- you can use any paper you like. I didn’t fully understand how DIFFERENT it is from other artist rolls until I got it. The mini DOES have pockets on the outside too. I’m really excited for that one too! ❤
I enjoy watching all of the content you provide. The way you use supplies, the background information you have taught, and, of course, your tiny paintings. You also have the voice of a siren. And I answered. 🤗 I have looked at the sendak! But your video "made" me need it! It arrived yesterday & I love it. I wonder just how many Sendaks have gone out the doors of Peg & Awl's doors. Anyway, thank you for sharing your talents. I look forward to your next.
Yes please let me know ho made the paintbook in a long video. Dear Leslie I realy am flashed by all the very good ideas you showed in the video. The belt is a very special helpful idea of yours . It does not look all to heavy to carry around . ( I have a idea of where you can put the rubber in Germany the pharmacy have very tiny cans with a screw lid . ( can not get that properly translated )Maybe you can get them in England as well , they are used if you need a very tiny amount of cream medicine . The envelopes you made a great. Lovely and creative have a nice time with the pouch when it is not rainy we also have rain here. Many greetings wishing you a very nice week Christiane 😊😊❤
I loved watching how you organized your supplies and gave alternative modifications! So many ideas! Your easy conversational style makes me want to paint! I will be getting one of these bags as I have looked at them for a few months. I would like to watch your sketchbook video too! 🙂
Hi there Leslie, I want to thank you for the effort and time you so kindly put into your videos! I loved watching you filling your Sendak. I struggle with not having "everything" with me wherever I attempt watercolour painting! To watch the thought process of your selection was helpful. I would love to watch a video where you teach your viewers how to create their own book! 🥰 With much gratitude, Linda Smith McCormack New Brunswick, Canada
This is great!! I would still put in grommets on the flap and run the belt or a canvas strap through it and around my waist for that type of apron! A canvas strap would be just a little longer to enable it to be tied, so folded up it could be worn as a crossbody bag!! Very cleaver ideas!! Thanks for all the tips.
I have one and love it! I have a video on my channel where I convert it to a hanging roll so I can use it standing up 🥰 Thanks so much for the mention - I love your belt variation too!
I like what you did with the belt especially it turning into a bag...so much easier to hold. I would love to see a video on how you make your notebooks.
Tip for the crayons, draw a square with each colour on watercolor paper, just to transfer crayon. This makes the most portable pallet ever ☺️ You can make this as big or small as you need, and are super easy to make ☺️
Brilliant use of your belt. I have the same green pencil case & am so disappoint the way it s fraying all over. I tried shaving off the wispy bits-but to no avail. I’d love to see your smaller version of this new case when you get it. Thank you for sharing all your tips & tiny sketchbook paintings. You are a great inspiration for me!
Hi, Leslie! Thank you for your videos, i really enjoy them. Could you please makes full length video updates on all the products from peg and awl that you have. They are good but pricey so I’d like to have more information before the purchase. Thank you in advance ❤
I love the Peg&Awl pouch it’s absolutely fantastic. Mine got stolen earlier this year from my car and can’t afford to get another at the moment but, will certainly get one again. I really like what you’ve put in yours. I had a couple of my favourite travel brushes in mine to have a variety of sizes. The Daler Rowney palette is a nice size for the pouch. Thank you for sharing this video it was very interesting.
Cut a gift card into half or 4ths and place your needed eraser in between two pieces. It’s protects your eraser and the corners act as a scraper knife.
For my kneaded eraser I use Art Toolkit's mini snap containers (set of 3) and they are perfectly small for popping into my different pouches and things! Also, I love my mini Sendak art roll, but now am eyeing the larger one lol! Thanks for the video!
Excellent review, and I really like your packing and media selection process. I like your other travel case better though, especially at approximately one tenth of the price of the Sendak!
I have one in these colours and I love it! I got a collapsible cup that collapses to about 1/4” deep so I can use my regular travel brushes, too. I enjoy my water brushes but sometimes I want to use a regular brush and water.
@@LeslieStroz you’re welcome! I’ve had my eye on these for some time now. I do neurographic art and collage but am starting to sketch and dabble in watercolor and gouache. I’d love to have a Sendak. I rarely ever work in sizes larger and 5x7. Think it’d be perfect for me.
Thank you for sharing. I am a bag maker and I think I will be making myself one of these.🤩.I think most artists like collecting art supplies and tools and need a way of protecting our investment.
Yes, I hear you. But I wasted money on loads of cheaper ones that didn’t last and weren’t a patch on this one. For serious artists this is a good investment. For casual ones or those in a budget a less expensive one works fine.
You could use an empty single-eyeshadow container for your kneaded eraser. Most of them might be wider in diameter than your current container but they are usually pretty shallow.
your video was one of main reasons i bought 2 sendaks at Jackson's. i have watched other videos, too. i can hardly put my dissapointment into words. noone every mentioned how the sendak feels damp to the touch. it's an unpleasant sensation and now i wonder if it will ever go away.

I agree with you. Canvas, leather and cotton wear and age with grace and they can last a very long time. Plastic and plastic-derived materials tend to just fall apart, and look shabby.
I'm so glad I found your videos, can you share where the small black palette (your additional colors one) came from it looks supper thin. I'm going to have to see if you have a studio tour on your channel. Thank you for your thorough videos.
This is such a lovely roll! I definitely can relate to wanting to have materials that wear well with time and look rustic like the old masters - and this definitely does the trick! I think I’m going to have to add this to my wishlist, this is so beautifully made.
Please share how you make your sketchbooks. I'd love to learn the process. You've made the most out of your sketch bag; it's very efficient and versatile. Thanks for the washi tape tip.
For the kneaded eraser, try antique coin capsules. You can find very shallow ones for larger coins that would work perfectly. You just need to find the twist ones, and unfortunately they come in packs of 10-25. But an antiques dealer could probably sell you some solo.
I need a video tutorial for the sketchbook! I have been looking into book binding and ways I can make my own sketchbook recently. Yours checks all the boxes, it’s exactly what I have in mind!
Leslie, I am new to your channel today! ‘ Would love to see links to the supplies used and a video about the sketchbook you made. Thank you in advance.xx Leslie from FL
Do you have a video on the mechanical drawing pencils? I've tried to look for a good video but can't seem to find one. Would love a video showing a drawing with the different sizes/degrees of darkness.
I have a mini round metal tin which originally had lunch charity pot in which I think is smaller than the plastic pot. Also I just checked and the Nero colours fit perfectly in a old cigar box I got from my grandpa (mine is prince christian panatellas) might be a bit bulky for your need but though I would let you know.
Hello … love all tour videos & thank you for sharing all of your knowledge. I’ve learned so much. 😊 I was wondering if an a5 sketchbook would fit in the pockets in the back?
For the kneaded eraser maybe it would fit in one in one of those plastic cases meant to hold a pair of SD cards or a micro SD and the full size adapter? If the erraser will fit it would be very thin.
I’m not one to coment often or ask questions. However I found this video very interesting and informative. I’m not sure if there is a supply list but would love one. I’m epecially interested in the additional black watercolor palette. Anyway thank you for sharing
