The take for me for this episode is food. I am desperately missing restaurant food in Kolkata. Never thought in my life that would stay in East Kolkata and would not go to restuarant and enjoy delicious food . Not going to secotr V or city center to have delicious restaurant food because of Covid for the last one year. Hope thing will improve. Baul and shantiniketan was also too good

Indians have a lot to answer for the carnage visited upon their nation by their politicians and their middle classes. India's hospital system is not buckling under the pressure of the Covid surge. India has never ever had universal health care preferring instead to pamper the rich from abroad and the local middle classes to 4 star hotel type treatment at Americanized hospitals. Its 800,000,000 or so poor have lived on the periphery without health care or human dignity courtesy of an inbuilt cultural caste system.
Narendra Modi has every right now to do what Malaysia's Prime Minister had done a few months back and that is to cancel large gatherings which include voting and polling stations, election campaigns in the open, farmers protests (which "Human Rights" campaigners Rhianna and Greta Thundberg were responsible for precipitating) and religious festivals all of which have contributed to this mess. Modi can declare a state of emergency suspend parliament and the constitution indefinitely and do what Mrs. Gandhi did decades ago. It is an opportunity the man cannot squander.
India's middle classes are at the centre of this Holocaust. Not Narendra Modi. As an example of the point, look at he daily newspapers and online publications and how they celebrate their Bollywood actresses, in their skimpy outfits describe their excesses whilst the nation burns under funeral pyres. Thats India's priorities. But don't be foolwed by the numbers.
India has an annual death rate of over 10,000,000 out of a population of 1,350,000,000. Thats 7.3 out of every 1000 people. Or a daily death rate of around 32,000. This are figures from WHO and the Indian office of statistics. And most of these dead are burned in funeral pyres you see on the media. It is nothing new. And these deaths are not deaths from Covid.
A creative Australian TV camera crew wanting to sensationalize the surge cuts and pastes these images to scare Australians and give them fodder for their anti Indian jokes without any foundation for their stories. Of course Covid is at its peak in India and it will spread because thats what happens in places with large populations and few health centres for its disposable and dispensable majority because of their wealth and caste.
India will recover and continue to dominate the west as it did with the Bubonic plague (a Pakistani biological weapon) which was contained by India within months. Life went on from then. India has to be forced to discard its adoption of the US health care system. Those who pay live. It needs to adopt a universal health care model and yes that won't happen overnight. But it spending US$735 billion on arms to defend itself against Chinese incursions (including Covid) and the US backed Pakistan (Stockholm Peace institute figures).
If Modi negotiates with these two adversaries or hold them at bay without going overboard with weapons, a healthier India is possible where even a beggar can take it for granted he has a right to life. For the present Modi must declare an emergency and bring in the army. 2 years of it will create wonders with India's 1,350,000,000 population and it could then very well match China's 40 years achievement iwhich brought 800,000,000 in China out of poverty.
Democracy has no value or place in a place like India. Neither has stupidity, negligence or corruption. A single bullet to the back of the head has done the trick largely in China.

Those few supporting BJP in Bengal in the hope that they will get jobs and inflation will subside, should open their eyes to the fact that despite being at centre with Majority, BJP hasn't disclosed the unemployment rate which is at its highest ever and the prices of fuel/LPG are all time high. Despite this if BJP wins, that will burst the bubble of Bengal being "intellectual hub".
Bengal will be next UP if BJP comes to power, no doubt, that much Amit Shah has explicitly said in the interview
