I've had my Surfans F20 going on 4 years and I love it. I switched to a 256GB card as well. I hooked up a 3.5mm to RCA plug to my home stereo , and it sounds incredible. The only issue I have had is the blue tooth. It does not like connecting to things for some reason. BUT.....like you said in the video , best way to pair it is just connect with a cord.
I haven't had blu tooth issues but I have heard some people do, perhaps its the version on the player vs headphones. Yes cord is best :D thanks for watching.
Not the firmware... the PC driver. The driver is available on the Surfans site. I'm expecting the player to arrive in the next few days as a just-in-case replacement for circa 2005 iPod 5th gen which has been showing sporadic problems.
The problem with included SD it's not only the tiny space, it is the poor quality. In my case have freezing and the impossibility of rescue the archives on it. I replace it with a new one Samsung Evo 64gb and the problems gone. BTW in the website of Surfans exists a new update, and it's very simple to apply.
Hi there! My wife just got one of these, looks like a nice little offline player. Does anyone know if it's possible to list by album artist rather than just artist in category view though? It would be really useful for compilations and albums with a lot of "featuring..." Tracks.
It depends, in my case each artist is in a folder and in the artist folder there is folders for each album. This is how I set up all my music memory cards. Then I use a free program Mp3tag (google it and you can download free) and I tag in various ways.

Hello ! Can we adjust the depth of the bass ? I listen to G-Funk / Gangsta / Dirty South where bass-line is very important. I got a Sony Walkman NWZ-B187 and loved it for its "Bass boost" option ! Now it's broken (after 10 years of use) and I am looking for a great MP3 player with whom I will greatly enjoy all my G-funk albums with solid bass-lines and synths. Also, I don't really understand the menu of the equalizer... it says 1K, 2K, etc... what does that mean ?
Hi there thanks for the review, I'm considering buying one but my only concern is the quality of the buttons, after more of a year of use do you notice a difference? Do you think that they are durable? I find myself constantly skipping lots of songs sometimes and I wouldn't want to wear them too fast.
I may do a follow up video on this subject. The buttons new always felt a bit cheap compared to the metal scroll wheel but still do a great job - no issues. I should add that the wheel although not 100% perfect is AMAZING. Really one of if not the best wheel. I love the textured feel of it. OH and the buttons despite being plastic feel much better than the newer Sony NW-A306. On the sony the bottons are soooo tight its hard to press and leaves you questioning if you hit it.

This probably isn't the loudest; that said, it goes up to 100 and I have not yet had reason to go up to 70, and as a listener of heavy metal I like my music loud. Incidentally, I'm using a pair of Shure SE215s! How are the 535s?
Hi there, is there a limit as to how many playlists this player can hold? Also, is it a simple drag and drop system to put playlists onto the player from a computer? I am looking to change from ipod to mp3 player but cant seem to find one that allows for many playlists to be created - i do not want to only be allowed to organise by artist or album as i have many compilations i would like to carry across. It still works great. I will say that smaller cards can sometimes search slightly faster, its something to consider.... the emount of desiered storage and size.

Question: what happens when the last track in the selected folder has finished - will there be a stop or a continuation, I mean will it automatically start playing tracks from the next folder? I don't want to create a playlist.
So I just ran a quick test without altering the setting I previously had on the F20. I played a song from a folder with one song in it and when the one song ended it moved to next folder. Continuing to play music seamlessly. I will have an additional video later this week about playlists. I know you dont want a playlist but just a fyi. Also you could just put all the music in one folder (despite player) to avoid it stopping at the end of a folder -- little work around.
It plays mp3s HIGHER QUALITY than itunes but if you want to slum it and listen to music you buy on itunes and transfer to player via usb cord or flash drive sure. But honestly I wouldn't limit yourself to itunes ... better quality music files out there.

Love the design and built to last. The only downside is some sharp conors (wont cut you or anything like that but if you grab hard you will feel its not rounded).
variable speed - as in variable speed playback is a gimmick you dont find on expensive high quality players. I dont know any serious music listener that wants to listen to their music 25% faster or slower. Its a fun gimmick to use one time or two times for laughs but not what I do when I listen to HD music. But no this unit doesnt play music speed up and im 100% of with that.
No, it isn't a gimmick if you use your device for more than just music whic you would think a company that has ONE job to do would have figured out. My player has thousands of songs but it also has hundreds of books. Many times I find audiobooks are read too slowly and I commonly listen to them faster. I do it all the time with TH-cam videos as well (including yours). Countless people use high quality devices for audiobooks, especially fully dramatized ones and I don't know too many of them who want to have toggle back and forth between two separate devices in order to accomodate all they listen to. Personally I have books I've listened to many times and with those it is common for me to listen to them at 1.75-3x the normal speed (contengent on the initial pace of the narrator). The point is - I should not have to carry around two separate devices to accomodate my listening and any company who really thought their consumer base through would think have thought of this and not limit themselves. I definitely want my music and fully dramatized audiobooks to be high quality, but not every book I have is fully dramatized and I want to be able to listen to them at a faster rate. Even HiFi devices which are set up for audiobook listening fail to provide this basic feature - its a type of miracle really that this has been missed. At any rate, I would agree that if all you listen to is music, variable speed would be of little use, but that is patently NOT all audio players are used for. So I am going to assume that, like me, you have not found a higher quality device which sports this obvious feature. Thank you for your time anyway.

As someone who has Djed for years, worked for Fox Miami for broadcast news I have never needed a persoanl tech for this. I'll give you audio books but you may as well be using your phone for that. My second reply was to explain why I would desire it and I suppose my frustration leaked through. You see I don't like using my phone because I want to use my good headphones and my cell only has a usb-c (grrr) so I have to use an adapter which inevitably breaks. All of which could be sidestepped by the simply inclusion of this pre-existing tech in the base software or in a future firmware update. I did get a reply from HiFi Walker regarding this. Sounds like you may not know what you're doing exactly for encoding if you filled up a 32gb with 64 cds. But whatever helps you plug the memory card ;)
Its all non scripted Its possible I said the wrong amount - can you give me a time stamp? I will say a HD Audio flac file takes up allot more space than a non flac file. As an example Muse 2nd Law Cd rip is typically 102 MB, in flac its 360 mb and can even go up to 1.07 GB in a high quality vinyl flac rip. So if your filling your 32gb memory card 1 gig rips thats 32 cds or if you go down in quality yes you could get 64 cds on one 32 gig memory card. Its all about the size of files. Hope this helps. PS. I would suggest using the highest quality files you can get (or make).
Does it have a bug in play/pause botton? For me, it has a slope to the right ... And not good comfortable. One another thing is that brightness in 50% it goes to shake brightness...this is the other bug

I have a ipod classic 6.5 gen I modded it to a micro SD up to a 1tb I love it but im constantly replacing the ribbon cable every 6 or so months can you expand the memory on this device to up to 1tb or higher because my ipod is maxed out at 1tb

I mean my android does the job for music but the shuffle option is a joke, ipod had it mastered...it 1 shuffle songs from 1 all the way up until it played the entire library... but my phone shuffle option sucks it replays songs I already heard more than a few times
Ipod can suffle songs but so can ZUNE! This player is about HD music, Ipod cant play at this level of quality. Ipod is good sure but its not a HD audio player

Not user friendly, and why no clock or radio, for that price? My crappy £10 mp3 player has everything, my surfans only has the ability to play music, and it messes up like a bitch. I appreciate the quality---I bought expensive ear buds to handle it---but I rarely get to listen to many tracks before something goes wrong. The most annoying is when it suddenly starts reducing the volume and giving me a warning about damaging my ears----extremely annoying! Or suddenly it only plays selected tracks that I never selected; I've had to reformat this device near a dozen times now just to start from scratch and I don't bother with files or making favourites, I don't want it to mess up so I just dump all music on it and hope for the best, this always works, even though it soon messes up with yet another bizarre problem, like making it impossible to recognize my earbuds for hours, then I get home after a hard day's slog and it works
This is a older Surfans unit compared to the Surfans F28 th-cam.com/video/B7i6800Spi8/w-d-xo.html but I really never use local radio or close on the unit. I would trade that for the great sound of the F20
Mine is still working great but I do have a new review coming up for a Astell&Kern player next week. Few questions on your F20. 1. was it new or used? 2. was it the original memory card in it or did you upgrade? 3. was the freezing due to movement (like in sync with movements) ?

I swear I can hear a difference, but it really depends on the quality of the source audio. Personally for streaming services Tital sounds great as far as audio files I lean towards flac

its a little less clunky and playing hifi music still drains the battery of your phone a lot. Also no-one to interrupt your music.

Loudest headset or output of a playback device? A headphone amplifier will help both causes.

I would suggest buying the Surfans IEM. Its a huge value at $60 and tuned for the Surfans F20. I love these IEM on my Sony NW-A306 and other devices.
Does this play. dsf files and that with gapless playback? You know when there are 2 songs gapless connected.

How is the Bluetooth? I just got one and the range on mine is like maybe a foot.
I havent tested the range but it does work great from your pocket to ear or in the car front seats to stereo in dash.

When the mp3 player is plugged in the computer will see it as a hard drive, then just drag and drop music files. easy :D

Personally I have books I've listened to many times and with those it is common for me to listen to them at 1.75-3x the normal speed (contengent on the initial pace of the narrator).
The point is - I should not have to carry around two separate devices to accomodate my listening and any company who really thought their consumer base through would think have thought of this and not limit themselves.
I definitely want my music and fully dramatized audiobooks to be high quality, but not every book I have is fully dramatized and I want to be able to listen to them at a faster rate. Even HiFi devices which are set up for audiobook listening fail to provide this basic feature - its a type of miracle really that this has been missed.
At any rate, I would agree that if all you listen to is music, variable speed would be of little use, but that is patently NOT all audio players are used for.
So I am going to assume that, like me, you have not found a higher quality device which sports this obvious feature. Thank you for your time anyway.
@@toocoolcuts Ok I can understand in the case of audio books but thats really about it. As someone who has Djed for years, worked for Fox Miami for broadcast news I have never needed a persoanl tech for this. I'll give you audio books but you may as well be using your phone for that. You're the first person to ever call out a device to me for not having this feature.
@@TUXXREVIEWS Well my original intent was not to call out, but to see if in your searching out of these players, you'd ever come across it. My second reply was to explain why I would desire it and I suppose my frustration leaked through. You see I don't like using my phone because I want to use my good headphones and my cell only has a usb-c (grrr) so I have to use an adapter which inevitably breaks. All of which could be sidestepped by the simply inclusion of this pre-existing tech in the base software or in a future firmware update. I did get a reply from HiFi Walker regarding this. We will see where it goes. Thanks again for your input.

Sounds like you may not know what you're doing exactly for encoding if you filled up a 32gb with 64 cds. But whatever helps you plug the memory card ;)
Its all non scripted Its possible I said the wrong amount - can you give me a time stamp? I will say a HD Audio flac file takes up allot more space than a non flac file. As an example Muse 2nd Law Cd rip is typically 102 MB, in flac its 360 mb and can even go up to 1.07 GB in a high quality vinyl flac rip. So if your filling your 32gb memory card 1 gig rips thats 32 cds or if you go down in quality yes you could get 64 cds on one 32 gig memory card. Its all about the size of files. Hope this helps. PS. I would suggest using the highest quality files you can get (or make).

Does it have a bug in play/pause botton? For me, it has a slope to the right ... And not good comfortable.
One another thing is that brightness in 50% it goes to shake brightness...this is the other bug

I have a ipod classic 6.5 gen I modded it to a micro SD up to a 1tb I love it but im constantly replacing the ribbon cable every 6 or so months can you expand the memory on this device to up to 1tb or higher because my ipod is maxed out at 1tb
Ipods can't play music at this high definition..... good sure but....not the same.

Why cant I play my bluetooth and adjust the EQ on the fly when I back out and go to EQ the bluetooth stops why

I mean my android does the job for music but the shuffle option is a joke, ipod had it mastered...it 1 shuffle songs from 1 all the way up until it played the entire library... but my phone shuffle option sucks it replays songs I already heard more than a few times
Ipod can suffle songs but so can ZUNE! This player is about HD music, Ipod cant play at this level of quality. Ipod is good sure but its not a HD audio player

You can drag and drop as many or as few files you want. Theres no mandatory scanning or adding.

If you want usb mass storage support and a portable method for listening to your digital music collection, then you need a portable music player.
I do like this player. One drawback is it will not pair with a Sony bluetooth speaker I have.

Not user friendly, and why no clock or radio, for that price? My crappy £10 mp3 player has everything, my surfans only has the ability to play music, and it messes up like a bitch. I appreciate the quality---I bought expensive ear buds to handle it---but I rarely get to listen to many tracks before something goes wrong. The most annoying is when it suddenly starts reducing the volume and giving me a warning about damaging my ears----extremely annoying! Or suddenly it only plays selected tracks that I never selected; I've had to reformat this device near a dozen times now just to start from scratch and I don't bother with files or making favourites, I don't want it to mess up so I just dump all music on it and hope for the best, this always works, even though it soon messes up with yet another bizarre problem, like making it impossible to recognize my earbuds for hours, then I get home after a hard day's slog and it works
This is a older Surfans unit compared to the Surfans F28 th-cam.com/video/B7i6800Spi8/w-d-xo.html but I really never use local radio or close on the unit. I would trade that for the great sound of the F20

@@TUXXREVIEWS i bought a new one and left the original memory card in it. No I didn't upgrade anything either. So it could've been glitching with the movements. Ended up getting a sony nw-a55 walkman and I love it!

Bluetooth is always a pain in the ass for me, cords all the way on anything.

I think its crisp but some of the text small. Check out my video for the newer Surfans F35 with a bigger screen. I still love this unit small screen and all. Its a great form factor.

Well, besides the fact that "High Definition" audio is a scam and the human ear can't past 20kHz (at peak health performance), DAMN that thing is SEXY!
I swear I can hear a difference, but it really depends on the quality of the source audio. Personally for streaming services Tital sounds great as far as audio files I lean towards flac
