  • A father is concerned about safety in Ocean Beach after surveillance video showed a man trying to kidnap his son.
The incident was captured on video on Friday night in front of the father while the family was finishing dinner outside the new deli they just opened on Newport Avenue.
Adrian Villanueva says that he and his family were on the patio enjoying dinner and his eight-year-old son was playing on the sidewalk when a man came up from behind the boy, grabbed him and tried to pull him across the street.

He doesn’t. The state does. But people think they have to press charges for them to stick so that’s why cops ask. It’s really just asking if you want to cooperate as a witness. The most probable answer is not that he is a trafficker or even a predator, it’s probably that he’s insane it was going through some delusion that he was a family man. When I see people in the comment section saying maybe he’s a trafficker, who is obviously so bad at his job that he tried to kidnap a kid that’s old enough to scream right in front of several adults, That’s being pretty bad at the job.b

That was shocking. Not pressing charges, or talking a child out of pressing charges, is betrayal. A parent is supposed to protect you, stand up for you, be in your corner. My ex husband's sister was molested as an adolescent/early teen. The offender admitted it to the police and they were charging him for what he did to her and one of her cousins. My ex father in law talked her into dropping charges because the offender had married into the family. I will forever remember my stomach turning when my ex FIL justified it to me, right to my face, "he's family". My ex SIL was already suffering from mental health issues due to the molestation, but when her father pressured her to drop charges, it did a number on her head and she spent many months in the psych hospital. She's never really recovered. Apparently the family applied the same pressure to her cousin, who wound up in even worse shape mentally. Awful family; basically the eat their own type. One of the reasons I'm divorced was to keep my daughter away from them.

I had someone use this line on my kids' dad and I 30 years ago! My twins were two at the time and we decided to take them to their first movie. We went during a time of day when there wouldn't be many people there. The boys were a bit restless, but stayed well behaved. I think there were maybe three other people there. There was a man there who was alone and he came and sat just a couple of seats away, which seemed weird to me. Within a couple of minutes he started asking if he could help us out by holding one of the babies. I said no, of course. Then he used this line, that he missed his family. My first husband was a very big, tall man and he stood up and told the guy to leave. He listened and left. We were very young and the whole thing scared us to death. Were we not watching the report where this man was sympathizing with the assailant and only pressed charges AFTER his son asked and was traumatized.

@@mims4085you miss the point of the comment. Why wouldn’t you press charges regardless even if his kid wasn’t traumatized? It is kidnapping for Pete’s sake! Who wants to pity a kidnapper????

@@cheynebutler6123I assume they thought the man was mentally ill or just a homeless crazy person and not an actual kidnapper etc. Sort of like how the crazies who punch people in the face aren’t actual boxers or fighters. But either way I’m glad he pressed charges. We need asylums opened again.

The dad is a covert narc, small slights like this over and over again is death by 1000 covert cuts to his own child. Statements and attitudes like this, even when they "change their mind later" are absolutely picked up on by the child. It profoundly undermines their sense of esteem and self worth. Leads to suicides, serious health issues and huge social issues and more trauma down the road. This is what it's like to be raised by a covert narc parent.

That guy was lucky all of the people involved were compassionate. I would have freaked out if that was my son. That was purely disgusting and that guy will do it again if he gets the chance.
