William Klein has spent six decades producing works that are raw, direct, and confrontational. As an artist, he has resisted categorization and worked within and across many mediums. His vision embraces a moral conscience and a passion for discord, and his films fall into two disparate but complementary categories: eviscerating social satires and illuminating documentaries. It is mostly through the latter that he betrays his fascination with outsiders-both heroes and outlaws. The legendary Klein appears in conversation at the Walker with Paulina del Paso, filmmaker and associate programmer for FICCO 2009 (Festival Internacional de Cine Contemporáneo de la Ciudad de México).
Presented in conjunction with the film retrospective: In & Out of Fashion: The Films of William Klein
This program is made possible by generous support from Regis Foundation.

I remember first see William Klein’s photos when I was in high school. As I looked at them what the big deal was (obviously I was naive and stupid) Sometime later I would recall the images and decided to go my drugstore and buy a roll of black and white film and mimic Klein’s images. Wow! Trying to find the right street setting, filling the frame, and then the right characters. I finished the roll of 24 frames of pure crap. My attitude towards street photographers changed that day.

One thing I love about street photographers is that they tend to be very unpretentious and don't take themselves too serious. I mean guys like Klein or Meyerowitz could easily become arrogant about their craft but they never do.

Most famous photographer lives longer, nearly centenarian. Klein, Frank, Leiter, Bresson, Avedon, and even Erwitt still lives in the age of 92. The photograph makes people live unstressful life, healthy and stronger.

@BL3atingFr3nzy: any chance you're from the flyover states ? That would explain the reference to "elitist, rich, Soho, communist, douche bag" and the fascination with aliens.
Klein is a Major Fucking Artist, and this video is for people who are interested in art, not in flying saucers. You're barking up the wrong tree.
I posted this just on the off chance that someone wants to watch the video and is put off by your braying.
Psssst .. don't forget to renew that National Enquirer subscription !
