From the development of skills to the movement to craftsmanship you will find the artist within. Good talk.

Thank you, and greetings from Finland.
I find some comfort hearing that we are not alone with the fight between artistic and "Village blacksmiths".
We live in time, where most of the people don't even know to think, that they could have something, artistic or practical, that is made especially for them. And instead of focusing in that, we spend our energy arguing who's more a blacksmith and who 's not.
You have a wisdom in your words, though here in Finland we would say that he likes his voice like an American.

I am definitely in the crafter side. I didn’t take up Blacksmithing to make knives or art, but to make tools. Like you I do some leather work, wood working, and just about any other traditional craft I can get my grubby little hands on.

I couldn't make art at all if I hadn't spent years crafting, from S hooks to leaf hooks to spike knives. The hammer skills and techniques I practiced make it possible to do the fairly complex sculptures I do now. I haven't found it necessary to become a hippie or smoke pot!
