  • Cycling through Sims Avenue and Jalan Toa Payoh offers an adventurous mix of urban landscapes, lively local culture, and unique challenges. Let's embark on an imaginary ride and capture the essence of this journey.
    Challenges and Highlights
    Urban Navigation
Navigating through the busy streets of Sims Avenue requires focus and agility. The narrow lanes and constant flow of vehicles test your handling skills. Pedestrians crossing unpredictably add to the complexity.
    Cultural Immersion
The route offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in local culture. Geylang Serai Market is a sensory overload with its vibrant colors, sounds, and smells. It's a great place to take a short break and sample some local snacks.
    Scenic Route
The stretch along the Kallang River provides a welcome break from urban congestion. The well-maintained cycling paths and picturesque views make it a favorite among cyclists. It's a great spot to catch your breath and enjoy the tranquility.
    Historical Significance
Cycling through Toa Payoh is like riding through a living museum. The estate's history and community spirit are evident in its architecture and public spaces. Landmarks like the Toa Payoh Town Park and Dragon Playground are iconic symbols of Singapore's past.
    Physical Challenge
The route's varied terrain offers a balanced mix of flat stretches and gentle slopes. The climb towards Jalan Toa Payoh can be a test of endurance, especially if you're carrying a heavy load or riding in hot weather.

In case you (or anyone else tries to) do this route again, I suggest next time when you start by Paya Lebar, take the cycle path that runs underneath the MRT track, that starts just 50 metres north from the Fire Station. There's only one place you would have to dismount - to cross Aljunied Road - and it's a nice car-free, wide, cycle and pedestrian route from Payar Lebar MRT to Sims Way.
