The ecclesiarchy would consider him a heretic for believing that, but at the same time they can't do much to him because he's the closest person to the Emperor (genetically and more) that they have. So they'd be heretics themselves to call the son of the emperor a heretic for not believing the god emperor is a god :D
The Imperial Church is a vast organization that is in need of ranks and structure, but with this comes the question of loyalty, do the priests become loyal to those that put them into positions of power, or to the common imperial citizen that come to pray in their convert. Though considering how powerful the Church is, its no wonder that those who are high positions have wealth that can match planetary economies.
From my readings, i think many ecclesiarchy are corrupt, if not from chaos than from their own power and influence. It's on the preacher level that the priests actually give a damn about their flock, in my opinion.

Hello Grim... Pronunciation note: Synod is pronounced as Sy-nod... the 'Sy' sounded like the Cy in Cyber, or Psi in Psionic. Not as 'sin-odd', but as cy-nod, or psi-nod. A LOT of people mispronounce it as 'Sin-Odd'. And I ask you, why would a holy rank be named after 'sin'??
