  • Exploring Chinatown & Columbus Park, Located in the Infamous old "Five Points" Historical District, between Canal Street, Worth Street, Mulberry Street and Bowery.
The Most Notorious Neighborhood in NYC History was an area known in the 1800s as the Five Points. This neighborhood’s assemblage of thieves, brigands, prostitutes, murderers and fiends would put even “The Deuce” to shame. Five Points was generally defined as being bound by Centre Street to the west, the Bowery to the east, Canal Street to the north, and Park Row to the south.
Despite its dangerous and difficult conditions, Five Points bring together, a wide array of immigrants, who used Five Points as a stepping stone to a better life in a new land. In the 1840’s, Baxter Street became host to German Jews and New York's first garment district. [Meanwhile, the neighborhood quickly grew to become the largest Irish community outside of Dublin itself.]
In the 1880s, the Italians began to arrive, populating an adjacent neighborhood that remains to this day.
In the 20th century, the area around Five Points was subsumed by a sprawling Chinatown.
