    Those trains & train stations looked wonderful. I was impressed by your breakfast; I don't remember anything like that when I travelled on Spanish trains, or any trains for that matter. Great way to travel in Spain. If you're a retired Spain resident oldie like myself look for the Tarjeta Dorada pass which can save you money on certain routes and times. You can also buy them as an oldie tourist. It's best to buy them at certain larger train stations.

    Some domestic flights exist, but a large part of the reason why they exist is to connect with international flights at Barajas. For this reason, they are talking about doing some work to enable the high-speed trains to go all the way to Barajas, which will please Iberia too, since a lot of these domestic flights are loss-making, but without them, international connections would be harder.

    How fun to find an old video of yours! Here's a video I'd like: from landing in MAD, walking through customs, catching the shuttle from T1 (where our plane lands), down to catch the airport train to Atocha (and here's where everyone has left out a vital component) walking from the airport train drop off to the high speed train terminals. I'm having nightmares about wandering around Atocha! Is 3 hours between touchdown and the high speed boarding enough?! Oh, sounds like a challenge!! I'll find out! Maybe I'll film it on my iphone and send it to you!

    People use domestic flights in Spain because they connect from long-distance flights and the airports aren't very well connected to the high speed rail network. Especially in Madrid, where you would expect it to be the best, it's actually terribly connected. It takes up to an hour to get from the airport to Atocha station, where the high speed trains leave.

      @SteveMarsh I hope it will get better, but sadly I haven’t found any plans for it yet. In France, they connected the airports of all major cities to the high speed rail network and now they don’t really need domestic flights anymore (for the most part)

    • @steve-marsh

      Unfortunately you do not have good information. In Madrid there is a train connection between the airport and the two high-speed stations, Chamartín and Atocha. Ten minutes to Chamartín and twenty to Atocha for only two euros. It is not too bad! In addition, there is an exclusively high-speed tunnel between both stations. It will enter service after the great reform of Chamartín. And soon the construction of a high-speed station at the airport will begin.

The meal also looks good and the view is great. I also travelled in this train when I went to Sevilla and the sound it's relaxing. Did you know that they will introduce new trains to the AVE rolling stock, made by Talgo and reach up to 380 km/h. It will be very different to the other trains with a new design.

    • @Josec823
      @Josec823 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is utter nonsense. Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe, after Switzerland. The AVE network has required a large number of tunnels, bridges and elevated tracks. Spanish civil engineers are world class, and Spanish engineering companies are regularly winning public infrastructure building contracts all over the world.

    • @joseancal6144

      It really seems that you know very little about Europe. Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe after Switzerland. The orography in Spain is very complicated and any infrastructure is much more expensive than in England or France. Spanish management, engineering and construction companies are very competitive, and construction and management are excellent.
      Greetings

      Spain is full of mountains in comparison to the rest of Europe. A lot of bridges and tunnels are made for each line. France, Germany, BeNeLux and all the other Northern countries have way more easy orography to build HSR lines

    I took this exact trip last May and it was a horrible experience. With a first class ticket in hand the attendants demanded I was in coach and threatened to have me removed if I didn’t take a coach seat. Worst service ever

      James Sousa “demanded I was in coach”? What does that mean?

      Mikel Sopelana Durango my interpretation is that ‘coach’ is American-English for ‘economy’.
