I would love to know what part of Italy Nonna is from? My family is from Calabria and I understood every word Nonna said! It really touched my heart! My mother and I made these Crostoli every Christmas although we called them by another name as is common throughout Italy. And we didn't use rum. We used Anise and I don't know anyone else who has ever used Anise flavoring. It was a joy to see this video, particularly since my mom passed last year and I will be making them by myself. Thank you for preserving the traditions! Would love to see more from Australia since I live in California!

Hi Carmela...thanks for your message. I have a feeling Angela was from Calabria too. (She was my ex-wife's mother's neighbour. She was Sicilian.) You picked up on the theme. The whole idea was to preserve both the local dialect and the recipes before they are lost forever. Sadly, within two years of making this video, Angela passed away, as did her husband.
We did try to make further episodes but some 'nonnas' got a bit camera shy and we ran out of time.

Perfect recipe & lovely nonna! Don't know why the other lady appeared very stressed in the video. Most immigrants from Italy to AUS suffered the same. I still use a pasta machine that is hand rolled not electric. It was my mums. Sorry , I do not mean to offend. Thank you for sharing :)
