- How to manually remove a game disc from a PS3 (SLIM) console and reset the Blu-Ray Drive
Brief Introduction:-
If you have a game stuck in your PS3 (SLIM) Blu-Ray Drive and you are unable to Eject it as there is some obstruction then we need to manually remove it by opening up PS3 (SLIM) Blu-Ray Drive and reset the whole gear assembly.

I NEVER log in to comment on youtube videos, but I just had to tell you that your video was the ONLY ONE I found that showed exactly what was needed to fix my "broken" garage sale ps3!! Only thing I'd suggest is take the metal cover and top part of the blu ray drive first, then disconnect the ribbon cable from the drive, not the board. MUCH EASIER that way. Other than that....amazing video, Thanks a ton!!

great tutorial!! Very professional and well spoken. Thank you resetting the gear worked but I had to take it a part again and reset the gear because the little white arm that the disk first touches as the disk goes in must be reset as well in the video the arm was already in the reset position mine kinda got stuck in the up position and I touched it lightly and it snapped back in to place, works great now plus I got to clean everything with computer duster too. Also I did not have to disconnect the ribbon from the motherboard I disconnected the ribbon from the laser eye, much easier to feed thru and re-connect to the eye than trying to connect it between the bottom of the drive and the ps3's motherboard.

Had a stuck blu-ray disc PS3 slim and viewed another video involving pulling the unit apart to clean and the eject the disc, but after reassembling I got a black screen when attempting to use Netflix or Hulu. Pulled the unit apart again, then more comprehensively disassembled the blu-ray drive (**Warning** the metal corners on the exterior of the blu-ray drive us super sharp!! Little difficult to pull apart some black tape unseen on side by divots) Cost me a nice cut and 5 stitches on my left pointer finger lol. But the little white gear in the blu-ray drive was the key!!! After unscrewing it (again mine is a PS3 slim) and then checking it. Reassembled everything in proper order, and the PS3 slim works like new!! Thank you for this vid!!
Wow, you reconnect the final board cable the the HARD way! you can connect that to the board first, then put the BR drive down with the top open then connect that to the bluray lens THEN put the top plastic drive feeder and metal cover on last. Your method is insane, you even had to speed up that part of the video because it took so long.
Wish I would have read that about a month ago when I cleaned my PS3. I was losing it by the end. Took almost 30 minutes to get it put back together.

Thanks a lot for this! I got the CECH-2502A and when I cleaned the blu-ray laser, I somehow fucked it up and the disc got stuck in there after inserting it and started making major grinding noises.
This video has a very similar drive to my model however the white gear is screwed in on this drive at 8:34. It was a major pain unscrewing it without getting the case out but this mini screwdriver that came with something fit and got it out that way.
Moved it back and now it's playing games again!

Heck yes! This video just helped me fix my jammed drive. If your drive doesn’t automatically reset when you lift the white gear, try this. When the gear is out, pull the little white lever on the disc tray side down. That shifted everything back into the normal position.

My slim ps3 had the that noise for a couple of days when I insert and play a disc until it couldn't read it anymore (but still allow inserting/ejecting). So I followed your steps, when I finished reassembling the ps3, I was surprised as the PS3 won't even allow me to insert the disc, so I've opened it up again and tried to be careful especially in plugging the cables (as I was suspecting that where my mistake lies), and it worked fine when I was done with it.
Moral of the story: Don't give up if it didn't work in the first time.

Bought a PS3 Slim at a pawn shop for $30 and they said it couldn't read discs. It turns out someone shoved a psp umd in the disc drive!

Just wanted to thank you for creating and posting this video. Our PS3 stopped working after our 18 month old daughter messed with it. I tried various other solutions to eject disc(s) but nothing worked. Following this very helpful video tutorial I was able to open it up and successfully remove four discs (Four! New world record!) which she had somehow managed to insert. Thanks again!
Great guide. Mine is also working again. I had a hard time fitting the flat cable of the lens while placing the drive.
I found it easier to: First place the flat cable into the socket on the motherboard, then place the drive on it with the hood off and attach the cable to the lens carrier. Next reassemble the top of the drive.

My plastic gear has a screw at the top so it won't just pop off like you did at 8:49 and I can't get the screw out.

Solved it. If anyone has the same problem with their being no clip, all you have to do is pull up on where you put the tape in.

Well, this is one of the more helpful. I had the drive hubcap off, tried to forward it but the arms up front held fast.
I still have the same issue as with other sites that talk about lifting out the power supply. The two power clips, two screws but it still refuses to lift out. I thought maybe that square 3/4 across is concealing a screw or clip, that’s where the resistance is coming from. And I hate to force something beyond a certain level.
My copy of ps3 Conan, the non-opening methods all failed. I had been able to engage the game again with these attempts but not eject. Wonder, but this pawn shop acquisition has VOID stamped several times near the game’s spindle.
All u gotta do to get out a stuck disk is, on the bottom where the little black tab to take out the hard drive screw, take that piece of plastic out a push up in their a normal phillips screw driver and turn counter clockwise and the disk should come out, if you didnt understand this just search youtube for : ps3 slim hidden manual disk eject.

I had a similar problem I took apart my PS3 and after hours of missing around with my PS3 watching yt videos nothing worked it turned out that on of the cables was loose I put it back in properly and it worked.
Thanks it really worked. Saved me from buying a new ps3 or another disc XD

THIS IS WHY I LOOOVE TH-cam!!!! thank you so much for the highest quality tutorial on youtube, the hardest part was re-attaching the ribbon cable for the bluray drive. my only criticism is you dont specify that you need a "security/tamper" bit. never the less, thank you sir for saving by ps3, opened it up and to my surprise i found a DS game in there thanks to my 2 yr old son :/ works like a charm now :)

My absolute sincere thanks. without this video and the other which you produced re taking the drive apart and out, i would not have done, this. I am amazed at how many bad, incorrect, poorly filmed and made "tutorials there are. and I'm surprised anyone gets them going without looking at your wizzadry. One point however. I bought a new drive as i thought that was the problem, turns out it was a reset!!!. never mind , i have a spare for when the new one goes. and i am now col in my sons eyes.!!

I did this, but now when I put a disc in the drive it takes it, then for some reason it moves the disc around(doesn't spin) and then it won't read it.
How do you fix it?

I've done this when my blue ray drive wouldn't spin the disk. It worked, but now I have the same problem again. Did the same thing but didn't work. Helps;-;
Great video. When I pulled out the white spindle it did reset like in the video. But after reasembling. It doesn't appear to want to take any discs still. Any ideas what this could be?

i solved my problem , there was a cd with a little bit of glue that probably blocked it inside.
I opened my ps3 and all was exatly like the video excepted for the blue ray that probably was a little bit different model, i havent't to leave the final ghear to reset but only screw the mecanism because my ghear was fixed with a screw.
No problem with cable or connection, also with torks i used a normal plate screw very slowly.

No you just need the whole new MECHANISM which is
KEM-450DAA.
we have available in our online store for purchase.
If the motor isn't spinning best would be to replace with new mechanism.
Its easier to keep the cable clipped to the inner-board, and unclip it from the lens itself. this way you can simply feed the cable through its hole in the drive,set everything as usual, then simply connect it back to the lens from above (instead of trying to fit your hand underneath it all)
Anybody have a clue how to disconnect the 3 cables without ripping them out of the plastic? I can't get a single one removed

Depends. Should be OK. Best is to give it a try if does not work. the lens cables are $1-$4 anyway so very cheap.

CECH-2502 and 3002 are compatible. please read description
You can use either of the console types to show how to open. The point is to show 'How to open up' and show how to take out the tricky 'lens cable'.

After did the procedure and remounted the playstation the blue light of the reader is CONSTANTLY on, even while the playstation is off (with red power light)

advice: take off metal top cover, then take off 2nd white and black layer, THEN UNDO THE BIG RIBBON CABLE FROM THE LENS' BOARD (this way it is easier to reconnect later because you are doing it from the inside)...resume normally

Ok seems like you have number of issues.
1. you need to replace your Reset-Switch board
2. Disc not accepting is you have re-align your assembly if still issues, replace with another drive.
